Winter 2023-2024
I went to the store Wednesday morning around 10 AM. It was 22 degrees, up from the low overnight of 3 degrees. I passed a boat ramp and there were three trucks/trailer in the parking lot. I passed another ramp yesterday and someone had launched and broken a thin layer of ice. You could see the path they made through the ice as they left the ramp area. Clearly, there are some who are more committed to the sport than I am. 😐

Your fishing style in as few words as possible (explanation allowed)
I really like that. There have been so many discussions about the definition of finesse fishing. I may just start using a different term for it that you’ve inspired. Butt Smoking. 😉

Your fishing style in as few words as possible (explanation allowed)
Great question. Took me a while to find the right words. Curious and analytical As I’ve gotten older it’s become less about catching them and more about figuring them out and solving the puzzle. Fisheries in general and bass in particular are fascinating to me.

Casting Or Spinning
Well I’ve fished both types of rods just about every time I’ve gone fishing in the last 35 year and I’ve never noticed a difference. But now that you’ve planted the idea in my head I guess I better start worrying about how many strikes I’m missing with my casting rods. I’ll add it to the list. 😆 Rod cost Rod weight Line Stretch Rod balance Lead vs Tungsten weights How I hold my rod Rod type

Quality Rod or Quality Reel?
There’s 5 inches on the ground and it’s starting to snowing again. I vote reel.

Where did the old timers go?
The day @everythingthatswims was in the BASS College finals was the greatest day on this forum since I've been a member. For those who don't know, it was streamed live and we were all watching and cheering for him. He missed qualifying for the Bassmaster Classic by less than a pound. In that tournament he demonstrated that he was a great angler and a great person. I watched the whole tournament.

Yeah. All of my losses in the last two years have been because of this.

2024 Livescope/FFS prediction
I predict 100% will be won with trolling motors. They should be band. You can’t win without one. Paddling is becoming a lost art.

2024 Livescope/FFS prediction
The big problem with the horizontal mode is the limited width of the beam. The beam is 20 degrees wide when vertical so it’s only 20 degrees top to bottom when horizontal. That’s a very limited slice of the water in front of you. You’ve got 90 degrees from the surface to directly below you. 20 degrees covers less than a 1/4 of that. I’m not saying it’s not useful but it’s a big limitation that the marketing folks don’t talk much about. 360 shows you a lot more with higher resolution but it’s not live.

Your BFS Set Up ?
For light lures 1/4 oz and less I use a Diawa Silver Wolf with a lightweight Ray’s Studio spool with .006 diameter braid on a Cashion Icon BFS or Cashion Core MF Worm and Jig Rod. Sometimes I go as low as .004 diameter braid. Feel free to debate if this qualifies as BFS. I just call it my light lure casting (LLC 😆) setup.

@MN Fisher I hope Erik fished that point. 🙂

No More Ethanol
Personally I wouldn’t sweat the E10 left in the hose that’s going in a 20 gallon tank. Now E85 hose gas going in a 1 gallon can would be a lot of ethanol, especially considering this gas is probably going in a seasonal small engine.

I had surgery on my ear 12 days ago to remove a basil cell cancer. I’ve had sun burns on this part of my ear countless times. Now I’m paying the price.

5"-8" Of Snow Tomorrow
My biggest concern is I’m looking at the long term forecast and I’m not seeing a fishing day until maybe next Tuesday.

5"-8" Of Snow Tomorrow
We have 4 1/2 inches so it’s officially a blizzard. It’s still falling but we are unlikely to get 6 inches which would officially be a snowpocalypse. 😆

Help with new boat battery setup...would you set it up like this?
That is the maximum amperage that the trolling motor draws on it's highest speed. A is amperage. aH is amp hours. A battery stores energy like a gas tank. The maximum amperage is like the maximum rate that gas can flow out of the gas tank. Amp Hours is like how much gas the tank can hold. A lawn mower engine needs a certain amount of gas flow to run properly but has not requirement as far as how big the attached gas tank needs to be to run properly. A 100 amp hour battery can deliver 1 amp for 100 hours or 10 amps for 10 hours etc.

You better watch your back. The bait monkey gets very angry when people start buying fishing stuff at Home Depot at a fraction of the price.

No there is no amp hour rating on the trolling motor specifications you linked to. You can guess at what the max amperage of a battery might be based on the amp hour rating but they are not the same and suggesting they are will confuse people.

No More Ethanol
About 25 years ago I was making the rounds at Christmas in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and the thing was barely running. It’s was in need of a tune up and was missing and back firing. I pulled into an Exxon station and filled up with their highest octane gas. I got about a 1/4 mile down the road and the thing was running like new. When the time came to fill up again I pulled into a different Exxon station and filled up with the same high octane fuel. I got about 1/4 mile down the road and the vehicle started missing and backfiring again. I’ve always been a little suspicious that I’m getting in the can what the pump says it’s pumping. I’ve tested several gas stations but haven’t found one yet that had ethanol in their ethanol free gas. There are very few stations around here that pump their ethanol free gas through the same hose has their E10. I would pump a gallon in the truck before putting any in the can if necessary.

Yes the input rating is 60 amps so the maximum output of the battery should be over 60 amps. The “amp hour” rating of the battery is different. The OP does not say what batteries he is looking at. If we look at Ionic batteries specs, a 50 ah 12 volt batteries would be a problem because they are rated at 50 amps max discharge. A Battle Born 50ah 12 volt has a max continuous discharge of 60 amp and a 30 second max discharge of 100 amps. If these values are exceeded, the BMS will shut off the current. The Battleborn will reconnect after 5 seconds, I don’t know about Ionic.

I agree @MN Fisher. A trolling motor does not have an amp hour requirement. A LifePo4 battery’s maximum current output amperage is usually very close to its amp hour rating which is why I suggested earlier in this thread to check the max draw of the TM against the maximum output of the battery. The BMS will shut off the output if this maximum is exceeded for a specified number of seconds. It should all be defined in the battery’s specifications. This is only true for batteries with a BMS which is what the OP is asking about.
