I spent about 6-8 hours a week wading creeks in middle Tennessee when I was a teenager. I preferred a short rod. When you’ve got overhanging trees a long rod gets in the way. As for the rod’s action, it all depends on what you’re throwing. I’ve never owned a rod that could catch fish without my help so personal preference is the biggest factor in selecting a rod.

My units have an off button. If they ever take the fun out of the hunt I’ll turn them off….Hasn’t happened yet.

I’ve always gotten what you might call “explainable” cramps. Like after a day or hard work in the heat. When we moved to our current home I started occasionally get unexplainable cramps. It doesn’t happen often and is usually mild so I haven’t worried about it or sought medical treatment. I’ve wondered if it might be due to a difference in the mineral content in the water. It sounds like you’ve already tried everything I can think of to try. Hope you find a solution.

In heavy grass you need heavy line. 50# is enough but none of the advantages of using lighter line apply. I’m not worried about fish seeing the line. I’m using heavy lures so casting distance is not an issue. 65# works great so why go any lighter. I started with Spider Wire in the mid 90s. It was the first product manufactured by BBS Tech in Kentucky when they were founded in 1994. They later introduced their own FINS brand which is my go to braid today.

It really depends on the reel. I’ve never owned a modern bait caster that didn’t perform well at 1/4 ounce. My Diawa Silver Wolf can throw 1/16 ounce further than my spinning reels but it’s a different animal than a Revo. Queue the music and let the BFS discussion begin.?

The trolling motor amperage can’t be right. A 45 pound thrust Minn Kota has a maximum amp draw of 42 amps. At low speeds it much lower but you want to design your system to handle maximum current. What you’re planning sounds good to me except I would not run the trolling motor through a fuse panel. It’s best to wire it directly to the battery with an appropriately sized in line breaker. Also connect your outboard directly to the cranking battery, not the panel. Just make sure you know how many amps will be going through each wire and panel and make sure it’s all sized to handle it. There are online tools that will tell you what gauge wire you need based on the maximum amps and length of wire. When entering the length of wire make sure you count the length to the item and the length from the item back to the battery.

It sounds like you’re planning on upgrading your batteries not your electronics. What you’ve suggested is pretty typical for a two battery system. What is needed to more precisely determine your battery needs is the power requirements of the items you’re connecting to the batteries. For example, fish finders range from 1 amp to 5 amps or more in power draw. You can find this information in the manuals or online. You can also use an amp meter to measure the power draw. You can get a decent amp meter for about $30. You can also post the exact models of everything here so we can make better recommendations.

A lot of people use 60+ # braid because they can’t cast any less on their bait casters. It doesn’t matter much what knot you use with 60+ # line. I go as low 10# braid to 8# leader. I will have failures if I don’t pay attention to the details, especially with fluorocarbon leader. I use the FG knot. It’s strong. I think it easy to tie once you know how. It does take a longer to tie than most knots.

If the two batteries that came with the boat are identical then I would use them to power your new TM since you already have them. Lithium’s last longer and will give you slightly better performance but you will never notice the difference and the fish certainly won’t either. When the batteries die then switch to Lithium.

Well I like my TM to be able to talk to my fish finders and I don’t want to buy all new Power Pole fish finders….oh wait…. No I will not be buying one.

I remember your previous thread that was a lot like this one. It sounds to me like you’re looking for happiness in boats and trucks and you’re not finding it. My suggestion is take your rods, go find a peaceful bank and do some fishing. A little time in nature is good for the soul.

I mostly fish the Tennessee and Cumberland river reservoirs. You can hit a log at any time on these lakes, yet you see people running at high speeds all the time. Like @TnRiver46 I’ve hit plenty at low speed. It’s not always about seeing them it’s about minimizing the force of the impact. I’m in an aluminum boat which also helps.

The dudes like “I don’t know what I could have done”. How bout slow down! My boat’s top speed is 40 mph and I rarely go that fast. I can think of three collisions in my life that would have been really bad at high speed. The worst damage I’ve had was a broken prop.

I don’t loosen mine. I set my drag with a scale and when it fails to hold the desired weight I know it’s time to replace. They seem to last about 30 years without loosening.

I doubt the increase in price is due to the manufacturer increasing their profit margin. It’s more likely that their cost have increased that much. Most fishermen can’t afford the bass boats they buy so they borrow the money. Interest rates have skyrocketed in the last three years so the monthly payments on that boat have probably tripled. I bought my aluminum Ranger five years ago. I didn’t finance it but if I remember correctly the interest rate was 3.9%. I just checked the Ranger website and they are currently charging 9.9%. I have no doubt that the executives at every bass boat manufacturer are wondering how they will survive.

It would definitely send waves through the industry. I assumed by the number of ownership changes in recent years that it was not doing well. Eventually it’s many brands will probably be auctioned off to the highest bidder. I hate it when classic fishing brands with so many memories get sold to people that only want exploit the brand’s value.

Here’s what my detective work has uncovered. I checked and the domain skeeterboats.com was registered in April 1997 I believe the Lowrance is an LCX-15. Found the manual for it online and it was copyrighted in 2001. I’m terrible at guessing ages but I would say Mark Menendez looks about 40 years old in the photo. He turned 40 in 2004.
