  1. Anyone know what color dipping sauce he was using? ?
  2. Here’s how I would process what you observed. Two points got your attention (I assume you found them on a map) and when you got to them you found two boat on them. That would confirm to me that I need to fish those points in the future. I would file away the swim bait comments. Maybe it something you’ll want to try someday. There’s usually much more to a technique than buying a lure and tying it on. It usually takes time on the water to master a new technique. I think a common mistake is having too many techniques in ones bag of tricks and not being good at any of them. That was my biggest problem in the first 5 years I owned a boat.
  3. I’ve used Duracell in the past and was pleased with them. My current TM batteries are the Interstate lead acid batteries that came from the factory. My cranking/house battery is a X2 Power AGM from batteries plus. It’s been fine but cost a fortune and performs no better than the much cheaper battery I replaced.
  4. In terms of total cost of ownership I don’t think they are worth it. I use them because they are maintenance free and are less likely to leak.
  5. @bulldog1935 you done us all a service by spreading the word about BFS on the site. I purchased a Shimano Alderbaran BFS last year to try it out and was not impressed with its ability to cast light lures. I decided that BFS was not for me and that I would stick with my spinning reels. Earlier this year I purchased a Diawa Silver Wolf thinking it might work better with lower diameter braid. I was not planning to fish finesse lures with it since I was doing just fine with my spinning tackle. I was blown away by the Silver Wolf’s ability to case very light lures farther than my spinning tackle. This is a game changer that everyone should be aware of. I’m not retiring my spinning rods just yet. There is more to consider than just casting distance but I acknowledge that the game has changed and I will be rethinking my choices going forward.
  6. Is there anything else connected to the same battery?
  7. I usually let the Shad tell me where to fish and by that I mean what depth. There are times especially in the fall where it seems like the Shad are everywhere from the middle of the river channel to the very back of every creek. They are never at every depth. FFS makes it very easy to know exactly what depth the Shad are at which is usually wide range like 3 to 12 feet.
  8. I’m fishing 1/4 oz or less 80% of the time. I go heavier when I want a faster rate of fall which they sometimes want, when I want to hop the bait along the bottom at a faster rate, or when wind or current require more weight. I don’t think I’ve thrown heavier than 5/16 oz on a Texas rig in the last 10 years.
  9. I would have spent more time in the deeper part of the lake and fished some of the structure near deep water. That said, I’ve never fished the lake before. I don’t know where it is. I don’t know what species you are trying to catch. I don’t know what forage is in the lake. You have fished the lake so you would be crazy to take my advice over your own opinion. My advice is do something different next time until you figure them out. Time on the water will trump advise from the Internet every time. Especially advice from uninformed people like me. ?
  10. I agree, keep it simple. Most of the stuff anglers worry about doesn’t matter. The problem is some of it does matter and I’m worried I might miss something. In fact this thread is making me even more nervous. ?
  11. I’m a cheap #!#@# but I go all out when it comes to PFDs. It’s Mustang HIT for me.
  12. To me the more profound question is if there are an infinite number of alternate universes, in what percentage of them do fish?
  13. Their email server is not configured correctly so you will either not get emails from them or you will get nasty security warnings with them. I wish they would fix that or just use gmail.
  14. When I was a kid we used to have firefly catching contests in the neighborhood. I guess that’ll be illegal too. ?
  15. Back in the day I used a Carolina Rig to “feel” the bottom as much as I did to search for bass. I used it to find interesting cover and structure on the bottom and them I would focus on those things to try to locate bass. For example I might find an edge between a hard bottom and a soft bottom. If I caught a fish on that edge then I would try to follow the contours of that edge more thoroughly. In the modern world I find the interesting stuff with my electronics so I skip the random casting and just focus on what I know is down there. There is still some feeling of the bottom with the heavy weight.
  16. Wow, 5 fish for 10 pounds will currently put you in 189th place.
  17. You didn’t answer the question. What range do you consider BFS?
  18. So if 1/16 oz is not BFS level, what is? ?
  19. Posted Monday https://majorleaguefishing.com/bass-pro-tour/shuffield-disqualified-from-bass-pro-tour-stage-five/
  20. If you have confidence in a longer handle then you may crank faster. Same difference.?
  21. When someone ticks you off just get on this forum and get it all off you chest. It’s very popular and that’s all you can legally do. ?
  22. I’m just looking forward to catching a lot more fish this week after reading this thread. ?
  23. I’m not 100% sure but I think Scooe is a brand of snuff. ?
