Sorry you had to go through all that. I hope everything works out for your son. I’ve had similar experiences with doctors. I had surgery once that did absolutely nothing to improve my symptoms and later caused a hernia which had to be fixed with more surgery.

It depends on which technique specific rod I’m using. For example on my black bear hair jig rod, I leave 4.2468 inches of line dangling before the cast. On my Colorado blade spinnerbait rod, I leave 4.6341 inches.

I’m sure every boat and every trolling motor is different. Every day on the water is also different. I’ve never tried to see how long I could go on a charge. I have measured how much current I pull at different power levels with an amp meter. I pull 1 amp with the TM on 2, 8 amps with it on 5, 41 amps with it on 10. Most of the time I fish with it on 3 or less. There are of course exceptions. I would expect to be able to run the TM on 2 non stop for 70 to 80 hours. I would get about 2 hours with it on 10. If you can’t go 2 typical fishing days on a charge you’re probably looking at a much shorter battery life due to depth of discharge. That’s true with lithium also. Don’t believe what the marketing folks say about depth of discharge not affecting lithium batteries.

Loyd Tallent. If you have one of his baits, that would be a real collectors item in my opinion. He invented them in the 70s if my memory is correct.

I’ve used an infrared thermometer to check the temperature of fish. I’ve used a temperature sensor on a long cable. Now I just use my electronics to see what depth the baitfish are at. That’s what really matters except in spring when temperature affects the spawn.

No it’s not the normal setting. I can see how that could happen on a bass raider. You need to change the direction the transducer is pointing or change the direction you are viewing the screen from.

I would look to your state’s wildlife management agency for answers. Do their surveys show a drop in the bass population? Do they care? If so what are they doing about it? If the resource is not being managed it will only get worse.

I use the Humminbird One-Boat Network app on my I-Pad to look at LakeMaster maps while I’m in my recliner. I turned on the GPS on the I-Pad and walked around the house and the speed readout seemed pretty reasonable between 0 and 1.5 MPH and it changed as I changed the speed I was walking. What type of phone do you have?

I would take a look at some different apps for your phone. The GPS in any smartphone is accurate enough to give an accurate speed.

Using fluorescent line and a black light will make your line easier to see at night than during the day in many cases. It's easy on a boat. I'm not sure how I would rig up a black light on the bank but I'm sure it can be done.

I agree with @WRB. I don’t view bass fishing as a search for the right lure. It’s a search for the right location and presentation. Lures are the tools that let you make a variety of presentations.

When it’s too hot for their prey. I spent most of my life closely watching the water temperature in search of bass. It worked for the most part. Modern technology has shown me that it’s really about following the prey species in whatever lake I‘m fishing. If you don’t have the technology then use a thermometer.

That’s very encouraging news. It’s good to see someone buy a company because they appreciate it’s heritage. I hope it’s successfully and leads to more similar acquisitions. I’ll be supporting them.

Another vote for Crocs. Fishing is the only time I wear them. They are comfortable and can get wet. There are some ramps that I can’t launch from without either getting my feet wet or doing some dangerous acrobatic maneuvering from the bed of the truck to the boat. It’s nice to be able to wade in when I need to.

There’s another thread where Keith Poche’s DQ in the Toledo Bend Bassmaster Open was/is being discussed. I’m not trying to start another thread on subject but wanted to take a poll to see where folks stand on the issue.
