  1. Anyone know of any rods that are similar to action and feel of a Loomis 842?? Preferably in the much cheaper price range..if there is such a rod. Seems that people really like this particular rod mostly due to the fun of fishing with it.probably due to the medium rating paired up with the loomis sensitivity. Don't have the budget for the real thing right now..
  2. Check out the weekly ad for Dick's Sporting Goods. They have a Daiwa combo(6 ball bearing reel) 50% off and there are some coupons for Dicks floating out there on the internet.(usually $10 off $50) and they usually have coupons for Dick's in the community coupon books like you get thru school or other fund raising organizations. Your parents may have one of those. So, you are looking at $59($69-$10). At least you can compare it against the Bass Pro deal. Not sure how many ball bearings are in that reel. Good Luck
  3. Shimano Crucial, dropshot rod. Trigger rod is $129, spinning is $139. Kinda in your price range....
  4. You can't really go wrong when you get to the $200 price point. Shimano, Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Ardent(never used one but hear good things) all have good reels when you are willing to spend that much. I'm with the TD-Z guys. Great friggin' reel. And you can still find them around for $250, new.
  5. Dude....sweeeet. Monkey is very agitated....... Does the standard Destroyer III come with the cork or foam grip?? The pic at the link has both.
  6. Dude, sweet combos. I like that you have mixed it up rather than sticking to one brand. That is my approach to gear too. Why not?? But, don't see a Loomis anywhere. I'd probably get a high end rod for your Ito.. Loomis, Steez, Megabass, oh my.
  7. Shi....my 7 year old daughter outfished me the other day with her $10 zebco combo over my TD Z / Loomis combo. 1 bass daughter (+ gary yamamoto, dual tail grub ) - 0 bass daddy (+ senko). She loved that, let me tell ya ..... (it was windy, just fished an hour ... excuses, excuses) And she may outfish me again when I get a Steez combo this summer .... :-[
  8. How bout a Citica Reel($119) + Crucial Rod($129)? Lots of people like the crucial and the Shimano guys seem to like the Citica pretty well.
  9. Mini Review Alert: Uh....got my TD-Z 103P last night, fished with it this morning. 2 words....VERY impressed. It was a different experience for me as I've never had a very light, low profile reel of this quality. I had it matched up with my Loomis IMX MBR843. Very light weight combo, I'm real happy with it. Casting was superb, very good accuracy, one minor backlash and I hit a dock on that one, hit docks about 3 other times with no backlash, was pitching, flipping, all with no problems. And for the "fish on" test.....My buddy was throwing a zoom brush hog, I had on a senko. A bass hit the hog but missed it, she saw mine cruising about 6 feet to the left and went after mine. Boom....a healthy 3 pounder. Things I noticed, the reel was dead silent during the fight. My buddy noticed that too. Drag was very smooth although since it was the first fish on it, had it set a bit too low. Clicked it about 2 times while the fish was on and much better. Love the micro click on the drag+cast control knob. I'm just a bit excited and the best part is I get to keep on using it....sweet. 8-)
  10. Thanks reel mech. No oiling needed as the reel was smoooth as butter right out of the box. I am so psyched to use it tomorrow. 8-) Paired up with the Loomis, it's gonna be my lightest combo. Right about 10.7 ounces, maybe a little less.
  11. Nevermind. See the help in the other thread/topic. Thanks.
  12. I'm getting mine today and fishing tomorrow morning with it. Have any quick suggestions to loosen it up(in layman's terms and thingee is a layman's term)? I'll probably just put a drop or 2 of oil on it. I'll be getting your book one day soon there ReelMech. Thanks
  13. You may have hit it on the nose with the Mg Zillion but that is pure speculation. Something will fill that spot in the Daiwa line up, that is for sure. Man, killing me that I missed out on the Z sale. Turn the machines back on!! Turn the machines back on!!
  14. Snooze, I lose. If anyone went overboard with their order and needs to get rid of one at cost, pm me please. I'd really like one. Paypal is best+easiest but could probably scrounge up the dinero. Thanx
  15. After about a month of buying my first Loomis(IMX MBR843 mentioned above) and using it about 10 times. Gotta say.......I LOVE IT. Got it paired up with my best reel, Daiwa Luna 253. It just casts so smooth and has real good sensitivity. I'm so happy that I got that rod. I took my 7 yr old daughter for some bank fishing and she was amazed at the distance I was getting...... Check this out as a side note. I've taken my daugher fishing a bunch the last 2 years. All bobber worm fishing. Today, I let her put on a Yamamoto dual tail grub, root beer color cuz she was getting real antsy watching a bobber.....first cast ever with a lure of any kind.....bass on the end of the line. It was a small one but man, what a great moment. She followed that one up with a 2 pounder. That is what fishing is all about right there.
  16. I need to replace my sorry arse, 2 piece spinning rod. Man that rod sucks. I'd like to chuck light weights up to 3/16 with it as I have baitcasters for everything else(1/4+) and for drop shotting in not too deep water. What do you guys recommend? Thanx
  17. Second the San Diego jam knot. Funny but I tied it for like 20 years before I knew the official name of it. It has never failed me ......
  18. Crucial drop shot will be the next rod I get. The current rod on my spinning reel sucks. I've heard a lot of folks like this rod.
  19. Cut your arm off at the elbow and get a Loomis 284 Bionic Forearm with the special grip tips. You can upgrade your thumb washers to thumb smoothies for that extra smooth stopping power. 8-) Everyone on this board would be sooo jealous. Signed, New Loomis Owner 02/07
  20. I didn't know the keep the one hand on the boat rule to keep it legal. That is interesting..... Sorry, didn't mean to mess with the forum rules...no harm, no foul.
  21. They may not replace the rod for any reason but I think they have a lifetime limited warranty....
  22. NICE reel....I love the specs and not a bad price for what you are getting, really. That may be the future running mate for my Loomis I got today. Metanium Mg and Loomis 843 sounds reel good and has the making of a favorite set up. 8-) Future is bright for fishin'.
  23. Since the Classic is the Classic, might as well have more than one forum area talkin' bout it. I used to think Mike Iaconelli was a show off, loud mouth. But he kinda grew on me cuz he can fish and he tries real hard. The thing that won me over was a particular thing he did, of course, with the cameras on. He was reeling in a fish when the line broke on him. Most folks would have said oh well, tough break. The line was floating on top of the water, he quickly reached down, grabbed it and pulled the bass up with his hands saving the catch. I was pretty blown away by that little move. Apparently, that was legal. I've been a fan ever since.... Not sure if he is gonna win it but I know he will try his best so I'll be pulling for him.
