  1. I fished a chatterbait with a 7.4:1 today and if you burn it, you'll force it out of the water. I learned that you need a 6 gear ratio for chatterbaits. Might as well use a 6 for spinnerbaits too. I think it makes a bunch of sense to use a low gear ratio since you want to keep those lures lower to the bottom. I just don't get a high gear ratio for any of these techniques. I've always have been told to keep a slow roll on a spinnerbait and chatterbait. You can always speed up, but it's harder to slow down. I think it's all about torque. Frogs 8 speed reels, worms 7 speed, moving baits 6 speed.
  2. I love Tactical Bassin, and I was watching their video on squarebills and lipless crankbaits. In their info down in the information section they spec'd a Bantam XG. Why would you use an 8:1 gear ratio for this technique? Is it because you want to burn the lure through grass or fish the lipless super fast? I was always under the impression that a 6:1 is the ideal reel for crankbaits. Can somebody shed some light on this? Thank you
  3. Ok, so help me understand this. We had a cold front come into Houston over the weekend and I'm thinking, this is the perfect time for my Jerkbait rod and Vision 110 I got for Christmas. I was completely shut out on the jerkbait bite. However, they killed it on a shakyhead. I was fishing a 702SF and a Zoom Finesse worm not the Trick Worm. The smaller version on an 1/8 shakyhead jig hook. Granted these were small fish, but they were aggressive. I also was lucky and pulled out a chatterbait just to try my rod out and got bit on it. I was snapping tubes no luck. I even tried my Megabass Dark Sleeper and a 6th Sense Finesse Squarebill to no avail. Have any of you had days where you thought the bite was going to be predictable and the bite came on something totally different? It's hard to figure the bite out. I've been fishing this body of water for years and each day I learn something new.
  4. I'm saving mine. I have a mix of red, bubblegum, lots of white, and orange. I'm going to try to reproduce Merthiolate trick worms.
  5. I try many retrieves until I find out what works. My experience has been slow in the winter and fast in the summer.
  6. I'll take your Dobyns if they are just sitting there and pay for shipping!
  7. Hands down the Fury 735c. Great backbone and relatively sensitive tip. Pair it with a Curado K.
  8. These jigs are awesome!
  9. I've used them. You have to change hooks and add suspend dots. I'd recommend the Rick Clunn Luck e Strike Wal Marts.

  12. Tubes are the deal in Southeast Texas during the cold weather. You need to make sure and use a medium fast not a medium light.
  13. Basics of Dobyns Rods for me come as follows: Fury 705cb most popular rod Dobyns sales. CB stands for Crankbait. This rod is great for most cranking situations. I like a squarebill on it. It’s great on jerkbaits and poppers. Dobyns does make a Glass rod in the Champion series. 702SF spinning rod...perfect for neds, nekos, light tubes and dropshots. I use the Fury series and it's a great rod. 733C This is my senko rod. Heavy finesse, tubes, shaky heads. It’s great for Spooks and topwater. Can't go wrong with any series here. 734C I throw my bladed moving baits on it. This is the most versatile rod Dobyns makes. If you want a softer tip the Sierra is the deal. If you want a faster tip Champion or Kaden...or dare I say the Extreme. 744C Champion I would recommend this rod for Texas Rigs and Jigs. It's technically a 5 power. 735C Frogs, jigs...I don't need sensitive rods for frogging. I think the Fury wins here. These are the basics. Tacklewarehouse.com is having a sale and you can make out like a bandit with some of these deals on Furys, Champions and Kaden. You're going to love the 736CB Glass for Chatterbaits. I recommend the 743c Extreme for Senkos.
  14. Moving baits...chatterbait, spinnerbait, swim jig, finesse jigs
  15. I'm not a guy who needs 70 rods to fish. I currently use my Fury 735C with a Scorpion DC 8 speed. It's a little long, but it does the job.
  16. The Stradic really excites me. I held one at Academy and it's noticeably different than my Sahara as far as weight is concerned. No reverse option. I don't really use it. I noticed there was a slight weight difference between the Vanford and the Stradic with the Stradic being slightly heavier. I think from the Sedona up to the Vanford, you can't go wrong. If it were up to me, I get the Stradic in 2500 it's the best for the money. I don't use lots of line, so the 2500 is my go to size. If you're going to go straight finesse Neds, Nekos, and Dropshots the 2500 is the deal. Also if you don't have to buy at BPS, ALF is offering more for trades, so you can get a great deal.
  17. I recently had the plastic piece on my thumb bar fall off while I was casting around my pond. I can't find it now, but I did purchase a new replacement from my local Tackle Shop online. Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this common? Is hard to install? I'd like to hear your experiences and maybe a step by step install instructions. Thanks in advance.
  18. I love when people hijack threads. It's so fun!
  19. He's getting really good. I wonder if he's trying to hint at something?
  20. Deep diving cranks. Never really needone since I don't have a boat.
  21. Snappin' a Tube...with the Stupid Tube jig weight. Absolutely flat out catches fish
