Action camera with remote on/off?
You could try voice commands with the bow camera, or maybe the app A-Jay mentioned could help. Or just let it run if you have a big enough SD card. I use 256 GB in one and it will last all day at 1080. I like to keep it simple too. On my kayak I have one on my head, the other on my flagpole. That one is always on in case my main camera misses something, dies whatever. I don't use the app or voice commands. I sometimes turn off that flagpole camera, but problem is I can forget to turn it back on. Anyways, with 2 cameras you are less likely to miss something important. If a cam gets too hot and it's waterproof you can take a minute of underwater footage and probably cool it off.

Action camera with remote on/off?
Your camera will last quite awhile when it isn't recording (standby mode). I use big SD cards and let it record. I turn it off when I think about it here and there. In order to turn a camera on and off remotely it would have to be using power or else it couldn't recognize a signal from a remote. Like a TV plugged into a wall. I can't offhand think of any battery operated device that can be turned on remotely, it's already on. I like the head mount like you said Koz. Especially in a kayak where you aren't moving around so much. Chest cams are more "stable" but the view is often blocked by your arms, and if you catch a fish off to one side (usually the case) you may miss the action (or if you see a cool bird fly by, etc). With a head mount if I see it, the camera sees it. And my head doesn't move around so much in the yak as opposed to shore. Cams are fun and some are very cheap so it's easy to get into. I think I enjoy making videos almost as much as I enjoy fishing.

Mental health issues?
Maybe I needed the change. Since I started hiking I haven't fished one time. That is weird. The fishing is tough and discouraging around here but that doesn't usually stop me. I'm excited to hike and to fish as I do though. I have all the gear now, tent, pack, sleeping bag, pad, compass heh. It's challenging for me and I push myself. My calves are like rocks already. Was putting on sunscreen and I'm like "Whoa!" I mean I bank fish a lot but still, this is waaaay different. At work one day I noticed I felt lighter as I walked. Maybe I was just trippin, but it makes sense. I think it's helping with my lower back too. I am extremely motivated. I set up my new tent today in the front yard. I just need more miles before I do my first overnighter. That'll be a trip for me, alone out there I mean. This has helped my mind a lot. I feel great when I complete a tough hike. It motivates me when I can see improvement so quickly. I have something to focus on. Plus my body is getting stronger and healthier, and I'm enjoying nature along the way. The trails I hike for "practice" are local, just a mile or so from my house. But I need to hike more often. I'm still "me", I like to sleep, fart around...it's no quickie cure. My belly is still here, maybe it's smaller, maybe not. I wish I had some words of wisdom to end this with. I just always like fishing in beautiful places when I can, or I appreciate it when I do. Maybe Thoreau was right? I always thought he just sucked at fishing and was making excuses

Action camera with remote on/off?
Be warned, I and many others have problems with GoPros and external batteries. I have a GoPro 6 and a 7 and have the following issues with both. - Date and time will reset without warning making it very difficult to sort through several days videos. If you pop a regular battery in, then use an external the problem will arise. I think that's when it happens. - Mine freeze randomly in anything above 1080p, and even then I have problems. I've tried all suggested fixes. I have come home to 20 minutes of frozen video, though I can hear the audio. NOT GOOD. You gotta yank the battery to fix it, which means removing the camera from its mount. With internal batteries I rarely have problems. - By the way these problems arise a lot more in hot weather. Indoors and outdoors. - I believe the waterproofing makes the cameras get too hot and this causes most of the issues. I wish they'd release one that is not waterproof like in the old days. The outside can get up to 140 degrees on both of mine near the lens. I actually complained in one of my videos about the GoPro dying, and the GoPro froze up while I was doing it! The audio was okay, just a frozen picture so I added it to my Youtube vid. I may get a cheap no-name camera that isn't waterproof as my secondary camera. GoPro says that the camera getting hot and failing is a known feature. The camera shuts down before it is ruined, the heat is from the waterproofing. Benefits of using an external battery are that you can run the camera all day so you don't miss anything. Theoretically. And you don't have to change batteries, or lose footage of your PB if your battery dies right then. Making videos is a thing of it's own, like fishing. It can take time, patience and a lot of fiddling around to make a decent video. But it's fun! I have all my best catches on video. In fact I have almost all of the others too. Watched your latest video MN. Dang fine work my friend! Very VERY nice!

Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?
Sounds like the answer is yes.

Influence of hook barbs on the “through-the-gill” hook removal method for deeply hooked Smallmouth Bass
I wonder how they performed the "through the gill" hook removal process? I mean someone with years of experience probably has much better results then a newb. I also wonder why the barb matters. It seems like it wasn't an issue the few times I've done it. I did stick one with the hook point though. But the barb?

More than 12 tons of trash removed from Lake Tahoe
It's hard to keep up when everything I buy has to be online and comes in a big cardboard box. Most of my clutter is empty boxes. In my industry the packaging is so wasteful it's shameful. Maybe online shopping will be the only way to go one day, and at that point we won't need all the pretty boxes because all we will be looking at are product pictures on a website. No shelves. As far as education there are powerful groups who prefer an uneducated populace, but I digress. Litter is one of, if not the biggest peeve of mine, and it's way more than a peeve. And when I see litter from bass fishermen it bothers me even more. It ain't all from the bucket brigade I'm sorry to say.

There you go! I cut down on the beer!

Professional anglers really need to stop doing the horizontal lip-hold.
I agree, except that I don't see anything in major bass tournaments that promotes gentle handling of fish. Come to think of it, I don't see many good examples of anything at all in tournaments, including boater safety, handling of fish, and often fishing etiquette.

How big is this bass?
The formula, according to the Harvard School Of Fishing: If we take our initial guessed weight and remove 25 - 35% we'll always be in the ball park. Increase that to 50% if it's underwater. Or what Tom said

Update on my lower back pain...
Funny, my Mom's been seeing a chiro for at least 20 years. To me that is a failure story. Saw a chiro office in Hawaii offering ridiculous stuff like "Brain Balancing" (totally made up hogwash). And no, if you want carpal tunnel "cured" in any way you get surgery or maybe if you're lucky, therapy and injections. Chiros make it feel better by rubbing it around then charge you for it. pain comes right back. Ask me how I know. If the OP didn't get an MRI my gawd please do. I notice he has only responded to people agreeing with chiro though. To each their own. Also, I've had three doctors recommend acupuncture to me even though there are no peer reviewed studies showing any help whatsoever. There is no mechanism for it to work. I know more about this than my doctors because we have discussed it and I explained the flaws in the studies. Even if the numbers were true, a 30$ success rate is a failure no better than a placebo. Question them too and advocate for yourself if you don't get what you want. Finally, what do you call the person who finishes last in their class in medical school? Doctor. They aren't all good.

Mental health issues?
Just wanna say I've continued with the hikes. I've gone 5 times and already notice big improvements! Today I redid the very first hike I did and it was a breeze this time! It's nice to have results. Mainly my cardio, not breathing as hard. And I feel great when I'm done, like I deserve to be tired now and do nothing haha. Extra bonuses of hiking: - I see and say hi to a lot of women on the trails hiking or running, many of which are already in pretty good shape, and within my age range. I got a couple of enthusiastic "Hellos" said to me and was like hmmmm...this could be interesting! Meet women that are in shape! And I'm obviously getting in shape so that's a plus (yes I'm single). - Some young gal walked up to me freaked out because she saw a rattlesnake with some babies on the trail. It was cute. - Found some new places to fish. - Did I mention the women? I feel better, I'm away from the news more, and I just feel like I'm opening a bunch of new opportunities in my life. It feels right. That goes for me too, anyone here, anytime.

Baits You Hate Throwing, but Do Anyway
If a bait works I don't care what it is or how to fish it.

Muddy Water
- Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
This may not be a popular viewpoint, but I doubt the bass consider us their friends. Let's be honest, we basically torture them for fun. They hate us and would eat us if they could. Knowing this, I still fish but I don't kid myself into thinking that it is anything other than that, or that I have some special camaraderie or connection with the bass. That's just us kidding ourselves. By the way, this response isn't directed at the person making this quote so I removed the name from it. I may one day switch to fishing for food. I read a review about the movie "A River Runs Through It" where they explain "Don't worry none of the fish were harmed during the filming. Enlightened fisherman catch and release......" I disagree. The enlightened angler fishes for food. The more I hike and get closer to nature the more I think about this. It's hard for me to say I love nature when I catch and sometimes damage fish just for kicks. And let's not even talk about tournaments. Like I said I still fish for bass and C&R but it is something I think about. Humans have a knack for ignoring things they'd rather ignore, and I'm human. If it ever bothers me enough I will stop. If not I won't. I just like to be honest with myself about what I am doing.- We don't want MORE FISHERMAN
How about MORE FISHERWOMEN? It's weird to me how few women seem to fish. I see one on this forum maybe once per year, and I maybe see...oh I'll estimate...ZERO women fishing without a dude with them. I know they are out there but I have yet to see one (I may have once but not verified). Maybe girls don't like harassing (I picked a nicer term) animals for fun? One girl at work thinks it's mean....hard to argue with that.- River Or Lake? What's your pick?
From shore, rivers and streams. From a boat....can't answer yet, not enough data.- What do you think of this boat color
Are there more water spots on dark colors or do they just show up more? I like my white van vs my old black truck but I'm lazy and don't wash it very often- 3 waters big fish 105 vs old town sportsman 106
I'm biased, I own an Old Town. Old Town has a 5 year warranty on their pedal drive. Old Town has been around a long time. Never heard of the Big Fish. The Old Town 106 is extremely stable. Holy cow the Big Fish weighs 135 pounds without the seat and drive? Nope, total deal breaker for me. Old Town is about 85 pounds. That's 50 pounds extra you will be carrying, pulling and pedaling. I don't need to know anymore. Old Town no question, especially for the price. Edit to add: Warranty on pedal drive for 3 Waters is 1 year, 3 on the hull.- Mental health issues?
I started something new...hiking. Been tired for awhile now, will be 55 this year but that isn't so old. Is it? I watched a guy on Youtube called "The Hiking Rev" and he did the 2600 plus mile Pacific Crest Trial at 67 years old. It was inspiring to me. I see beauty when I fish sometimes and I'd like to see more of it. Not 2000 miles of it though! So a few days ago I did a 3 mile hike behind Calero Lake on some trails. Brought my small fishing backpack. Few hundred feet elevation change, handled it easily. I could have walked it again Two days later was hike #2 and that one kicked my butt a bit. Just when I thought I was at the top...NOPE! Keep going! Was 500 foot elevation change total and kinda steep and long at the top. I have a goal and that is to solo backpack camp and fish somewhere, 2 - 3 nights. I haven't set a time or place yet, but I just figure I can get in shape and maybe not be so burned out all the time. I'm pricing equipment. I haven't bought any because I feel like I could change my mind, so waiting to see if I stick with what I'm doing first. It felt good to complete the second hike. And the first hike set everything in motion - like now it is no longer an idea in my head, now it's real. I'm doing it. This exercise should also help me with the pedal kayak! It may not be Mt. Everest but it's a start. Bad photo from GoPro vid. Two minutes after this I realized I still had to go up the hill some more...this fork wasn't the one I thought it was!- FedEX gives me heartburn.
I'm having delays regardless of the shipping service. Bad month so far for me!- Thoughts a using an anchor trolley system on a kayak, and which net to purchase.
I bought pulleys and cleats on Amazon and made my own for my Ride 115. Metal ring at Home Depot, paracord. Probably easier to buy one but DIY is an option. I find it a very good thing to have, especially for a paddle ya. - Catch & Release Vs. Keep and eat
