  1. I only bed fished once and didn't realize that's what I was doing for awhile. Spotted bass from shore. They didn't care about my senko or another bait (maybe was a chatter?) but when I plopped a craw on the right spot they went for it. That ticked them off I could tell. My idea was that a real craw would eat eggs and a worm couldn't so a bass would react more to the craw. I have NO idea if ANY of that is true, but it caught some fish.
  2. I started a "Personal Worst" thread with this one a couple of years ago. You guys all have me beat. He hit a popper and all I heard was a tiny little "plink" sound in the water. He's either gonna be big and mean (aggressive) or he's dead already (dumb).
  3. Nice fish, I love the rivers and streams.
  4. I don't think his mouth is growing back any time soon - no more than ours would I caught a small bass (same fish 3 times in a year) missing the right side of it's mouth. Freaked me out. But he still owned that little area of the creek.
  5. I wear my PFD in the yak at all times, but it's hard for me to condemn other people for not wearing them. I think forbidding photos without them on a forum is going too far, as dumb as not wearing one may be. When I was a kid we'd swim the local lakes, bring rafts and screw around and we never had life vests (we weren't using as many acronyms back then either). If I was at my Dad's lake right now I wouldn't wear a PFD to jump in the water off his dock or float around on a raft. If I had a paddle board back then there's no way I'd have worn a vest. Would anyone here who was a kid 40 or more years ago? Almost nobody wore them in boats either and most still don't. But I wore a seat belt in my car at 16 when it was still legal not to. I do the same in my yak with the PFD now. On the other hand, I watched a few of B-Lats recent Youtube videos and cringed while he and his 2 year old son were on deck fishing. The kid had thick pants and a sweater on, it was windy and a bit wavy, not too bad. No PFD on him. Two years old. Brian was doing a video and you could hear and see his (totally cute btw) son running around the deck. Brian had his back to him most of the time. That kid could have been gone in a second, especially in that dirty water. I thought that was so stupid but I didn't want to be "that guy" and comment there, so I am here LOL. Later in one video, Mom came on board and the kid had a full vest on. That to me was very dumb, sorry B.
  6. Haven't seen it mentioned but I've caught top water fish at night, so heck ya on clouds or anything else. Old thread but still 100% relevant.
  7. I am now wondering if my window A/C will be here tonight, via FedEx. Had to find this thread I could see a more roundabout route being cheaper sometimes, I guess. But check this out... I ordered something from Walmart, I forget what. Well I can get free shipping for $35 order or more, so I looked up some small cheap jerkbaits they sell. I've been wanting them anyways. I ordered several different colors. Hey they catch fish! So comes time to checkout and they tell me the 8 items I ordered for a total of $37 will arrive in 6 different shipments on 6 different days! I'm like "How the flippin flip is this saving them money?" Jerkbaits are $2 each, some arrived 1 at a time! I'm sure they came from different locations, but forcing me to spend more seems to have cost them money this time. But that's not the end. One shipment I tracked from Texas to Arizona, then north toward me through Bakersfield....oh wait, they're at a FedEx facility in Montana now! And they should be here tonight in Cali. Not! Next day I get a notice - "your shipment is delayed". I already know, even your message is delayed! Haha Happened to multiple shipments all from guess who. I expect issues sometimes but wow. Anyways, after 6 days I check on my A/C with FedEx tracking: 04-06-2022 Shipment information sent to FedEx - 11:13 pm That's it. I emailed the seller and they answered promptly. At least it's been cold here so I don't need the A/C just yet. Can't wait to see what happens next!
  8. I know I've answered at least once but this is part of the reason I love to fish. Water is still rising here, almost full. This is the creek end of the lake. Ten minutes outside of San Jose. Screenshot from a video so kind of lo-res. I just think it's a nice looking place to be.
  9. I'm just going to comment about what you said earlier about not trusting the doctors. You are correct not to rely on them. My story is long so I won't get into it but I learned that you must advocate for yourself, do your own research on any suggested procedures, and look for alternatives on your own. If you don't get what you want, push harder or look elsewhere. I would have gotten nowhere if I just listened to the doctors. They will push stuff that does not work (alternative woo medicine in my case) and not suggest other things (science based) unless you bring them up yourself. Which I did. I finally, after many months, got a nerve conductivity test and then an MRI (for tendinitis) at my repeated insistence and the problem was found because of it. Turns out it's a nerve in my neck and it affects both arms, and they would have never found it without me pestering them. And always remember: "You know what they call the person who graduates last in their class in medical school?" "Doctor"
  10. Remove the Boondox would be my first move. It's going to make it worse if not. Thanks for posting this because I thought those things looked sketchy to me, but it depends on the kayak too. I may need a new cart this year.
  11. 3.4-3.5 mph maximum "cruising", though I'd have to use it a few more times with the Garmin. Old Town Sportsman PDL 106. I barely got it up to 4.0 (just to do it) but I was pedaling very hard and it was a 10 second sprint. No way I could hold that speed. Was also my first time pedaling one. Boat was full of gear too. I think maybe a motor could get you a small speed gain. I don't think gearing the kayak pedals differently would get you any more speed because the hull is the limiting factor (hull speed?). You will never get it on a plane, you'll only push more water. A bigger prop would have the same problem but it's something you could try yourself. I feel like I'm pedaling a bathtub and there is no going faster without a huge increase in power. The point of severe diminishing returns is right around 3.6 mph.
  12. Had a fish on yesterday and about 3 seconds into it he jumped and shook it loose. We can't both win. The fish won and I salute it (the little #@&^). Fish = 1 Mike = 0 The fish scored again later The lake was beautiful though, the birds were entertaining and it felt great to be there.
  13. I video all of my trips and that is the extent of my record keeping, so far.
  14. I like that better than a few other responses here. "Packing" because people keep crowding your fishing spot is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Really, you're going to shoot someone, Rambo? You wanna see an idiot? Here ya go, I think he was drunk because there is no other way he could have missed me and my cousin. And he wasn't fishing. He apologized when I said something, "Oh didn't see you". What're ya gonna do...oh shoot him, ya that's it. He was just puttering around with his dog. And guess what? people in boats and kayaks can carry as well, you never know. Sorry to jump all over the gun thing, but it is people like that who give fishermen and gun owners both a bad name.
  15. I'm glad you mentioned it, I never considered the glass thing. It's food for thought.
  16. I checked New Melones and it is using Navionics map. The site says they use maps from different services. I kinda like the way the Navionics site works better, one reason being that I don't have to click an icon to open the map. I don't use these services though really so others may have more informative opinions. And my favorite lake isn't on either of them but it is on my fish finder.
  17. My sister told me it was in the 70s today. Just talked to her, she lives in Salem. I started this same thread about 6 months ago and thought it was mine hah. I went there in November but wasn't sure where to fish, days were short and it was pretty cold. Last summer it got hot there, just not as hot as Cali where I live. There is a ton of great fishing in Oregon. Steelhead/trout, smallmouth and large I hear. I'm no expert on Oregon, someone else will hopefully chime in. My family wants me to move there, but one reason I'm hesitant is I like bass fishing and I love the Delta. The cost of living here though is getting stupid.
  18. Only thing I've caught on a frog so far is a bullfrog! And since you mentioned not having a GoPro.... I did have one Earlier in the vid is a cool topwater strike and me breaking by rod on it too (used rod). Yay. Here's the frog on the frog. Video starts just before it is caught. Was hiding near shore in the vegetation. And feel free to laugh at my releasing him...not sure what I was thinking LOL.
  19. No, I'm never wrong about anything!
  20. I see no maps available on that website. It's just a forum. First I've heard of them. There are free Navionics maps here at BassResource but the service appears to be down right now https://www.bassresource.com/maps/fishing-spots-maps.html
  21. I'll make sure never to approach an angler without a rod in my hand lest I get shot. During the week. ETA: I once lost my sunglasses at a local pond. That evening I went back, head down scanning the trails looking for them. No rod in hand. Sure glad I survived! Found my glasses too.
  22. That second one is the company/brand (PLUSINNO) that got mad at me because I wouldn't change my Amazon review to 5-stars from 2 stars. I won't do business with them or any of those "never heard of em and can't pronounce the name" sellers on Amazon. They are all full of crap. They tried to bribe me too...."Oh we were going to send you a fly rod to try next...are you sure?". I can't repeat what I told them without getting banned here. To each his own but I'd never buy from them. Edit to add: Click on the PLUSINNO Amazon link above and notice that the top reviews all have photos with them. That's how you know they are fake. Not always, but in this case absolutely. Review after review. They ask you to post photos. Who would post 6 photos of a $40 net? People getting it for free, that's who. They recruit reviewers when the product first comes out, that's why they're all at the top. Sort the reviews by "newest first" and guess what? No photos. Those are the real reviews. Amazon is trying to prevent this but they aren't succeeding. Hope this helps someone.
  23. I think Glenn will get the checks
  24. Maybe he really was looking for something and your friend scared the crap out of him.
