Contemplating a kayak
Old Town Sportsman PDL 106 here. Bought it sight unseen (had no choice really) and I love it. Was my second kayak, first one had no pedals...big mistake for me. Five year warranty on the pedal drive unit too. That yak is $2k. Should leave you with close to a thousand for accessories. Absolutely necessary accessories are PFD, paddle, whistle or horn for help (or both), and a $15 first aid kit. Seriously, I went fishing one night in my old Ride 115 with just a paddle, two rods, PFD, whistle and a Plano 3600. For a quick trip that is all you need. Caught a five pounder. This yak comes with 3 built in rod holders and you can lay down one or two more. Just saying you don't have to get a crate or storage right away. But milk crates are only $10 at Home Depot. Trolling motor and fish finder can wait. That's $500 - $800+ easy right there. I'm biased about my kayak I'm sure, but then again I did a ton of research and this is the best quality yak for the price. I bought it because it was the best I could find.

How do you store new, unopened hard baits (in original packaging)?
My pegboard is in my room on my closet door!

East wind means no fish ???
I think all anglers should stay home when it's windy at all. Except for me.

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
Here is a redo of one of the above cartoons. Next will be the final one. I'm just getting started so I don't know the process yet. I may only do one version of each once I get going. I'm no expert and I need to work on my skills, or maybe I should just stick to the quick sketches. We'll see. Practice practice. Started with ink pens. I changed the cartoon a little from the original. Figured the fish carrying the stick worked better than trying to draw fishing line wrapped around each fish. This is slicker I think. It's a phone photo so not good quality: Here it is colored with pencils. BTW I'm a bit colorblind so I bought pencils with the color names printed on them LOL! I don't plan on coloring most of these. Did that in one sitting pretty much. It's fun. I wish I had my pencils when I wasn't catching yesterday on the bank. The new pens have improved my drawing. What a difference from using whatever ballpoint I could find lying around.

“Strategy” for the year?
My strategy is to fish as much as possible. More than last year, more kayak trips. More everything, except I have all the baits I need so no more of those. Need that money for gas!

Do you place stickers on your kayak?
I'd put a BassResource sticker on my crate lid. I think I will. And if I had to put one sticker on my yak for free, now that I think about it again, BR would sure be a top contender. They don't charge me for anything, and I have learned more about fishing than all other sources combined, plus I chat with cool people. It's like a good bar with a fishing library. I'm gonna buy a sticker or two and maybe something else now. Edit: having trouble getting any fishing apparel in my cart. Says "N/A" next to every item I try. We'll see. Got decals in there okay.

Would year-round daylight savings affect your fishing??
Yes and in a positive way. Longer evening fishing locally after work. Any fishing "trips" (entire day or multi-day) would not be affected either way. Only work gets in my way of fishing. I'd like it to rain good once again before summer season. We could use it. Lakes look good locally now but it won't last.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I used to be able to buy those here too but they've been gone for like 3 years!!! So bummed. I'm gonna have to start including my air horn in some of my fishing pics now. Maybe like Where's Waldo? My Dad gave me an old air horn he had in his garage recently. "Here ya go! Feels like there's a blast maybe in there!" Shakes can... Oookay, I'm buying a new one! Sounded like a good idea after reading a recent "almost got run over in my kayak" thread. Or distress call. I better test this new one. Hmmm this could be fun.....drive by a local golf course maybe and wait for the right moment? Ya I've seen the videos

I just came from the "Why post photos thread" or whatever, and you're right! Here is my illustrious new horn and first aid kit. Here's hoping I never need to use either.

Daylight Savings Time
More traffic accidents while people drive home from work in the dark: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=traffic+accidents+daylight+savings I'd like DST year round.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Bought an air horn and a small first aid kit for my kayak. No photo required I think. Edit: that's not really the bait monkey though sorry. We both agreed on this one.

Why do you fish?
What else is there?

Shield Trailers
Yep. How do you load gear into your boat? How do wipe the boat down at the end of the day, or ever? How do you wash the boat? Work on it? Change the oil? I dunno man, you're gonna have to have a regular trailer to do all of this stuff, and you will need two trucks at the lake to switch trailers. This trailer could fill a very specific role, but these are just a few things that popped into my head. Is there room for tools? Car racers use semi trailers to haul their stuff, but this isn't that big. It doesn't seem practical. I see this trailer as solving two problems - theft of gear from the boat and no rocks dinging up the paint on the highway. If you have no garage then you can keep the boat enclosed in it year round. But if you can afford this, you have a garage Edit: The more I think about it, even if you're a big time professional tour angler you still need to work on your boat sometimes while on the road. With this trailer that seems impossible.

Split Shot
I use them but as I am getting better at knot tying so I may use them less. I like them. You can slide it around to give different action to soft plastics. Of course it's easy to add or remove weight with them. I always have some with me. Also, if you do it right you can make them slide. You have a removable sliding weight. I want a split shot sliding bullet weight. Maybe I will make a few.

Thankful !!
Nobody in my life influenced me to start fishing, except maybe someone on Youtube. Four years ago I realized I lived 10 minutes from The Delta. For some reason I watched a fishing video on Youtube, coulda' even been a Googan for all I remember. Bass Pro Shops was 2 miles away from me so I checked it out. I caught my first fish with my grampa as a small boy but it didn't get me into fishing.

Cynical
Tom, I remember a year or two ago you emailed me one of your big bass photos and said you no longer liked to post them. I figured that was the reason, and I appreciated the photo. I'm a cynic too and it's hard, especially these days not to be. Short answer is if I let someone get me upset or ruin my day, they win. Easier said than done sometimes. Why should I care about an opinion from a person I don't even respect? It means zero to me, at least it should. I hear you man, just letting you know as others have here that we think you're awesome.

New lures for 2022
Caught my first jerkbait fish ever, 3 of them on two different days (one was a crappie). So now I have a bunch of new jerk baits I have some micro baits I will use time to time if I feel like fishing tiny waters. I have some worms I made this winter and I'd love to catch one on a homemade bait, or lure.

Close Encounters of the Snake Kind...
Heck there's a rake in every sand trap already, no need to bring one! Boots and thick pants might help.

I wonder about posting pics in general.
This forum would be a lot less interesting without all our photos, and AJ's video trips to Mexico, the hook impalements. It makes it more real. I've never been on a forum where so many members post photos of themselves, or photos in general. Fish come in such varieties as do the fisheries, I like seeing them. Other countries are cool too. Dude, I mean you go to a fisherman's house and the odds are high that you will see fishing photos. Fishermen love photos! Of course we're gonna do it here! I had this whole lake to myself yesterday. Beautiful, perfect looking bass, and my biggest this year so far. Screenshot from head-mounted GoPro. Of course you have to be in the photo for the "showoff shot" (with the sun at your back like an idiot).
