Your Moron Moments
I dunno if it's a true moron moment, but yesterday I was at a local pond casting small jerk baits. I did a hard cast and 3/4 of the way through it my foot slipped on the slightly muddy slope and I lost my balance. I didn't fall. The bait shot high straight up into the air, I had no idea exactly where. When I regained my balance I heard my bait land in the tule about 10 feet in front of me. I looked down and I had a backlash. Of course. So I started pulling line out of the reel. Quite a bit came out when suddenly I was holding the end of the line in my hand, yet there was still plenty of line on the spool. The end was curly a little so seemed like a knot was there. But I'm sure I didn't tie one, or use backing line. I've only spooled this reel once so far. Whatever! Got the lure out of the tule. I have it all on video but I caught no fish so it goes on the cutting room floor. Or maybe a blooper archive. Ya there we go, gotta save it!

When you're fishing partner is the exact opposite.
Friends that I have had for that long, and I have a few, are like brothers to me. I would simply tell them, "Dude! Slow the **** down for awhile man! In a hurry to get home to the wife? Sit down and eat a sandwich!" Honesty is almost always best. Aside from that.....if you simply can't: - It may work itself out. I could not fish 3 - 4 days a week with the same person, or even a variety of people for that matter. You both may get tired of each others company, not completely but it may get old. It may quickly turn into once a week. I don't know you guys so whaddo I know? - I have no problem speaking my mind usually, but if you need subtlety then "Hey how 'bout we work this area for 20 minutes?" here and there. If that didn't work out for me I simply would limit my trips with him. But again if it were me I'd like...talk to him. Respect goes both ways.

Would You Fish Out This? Could You?
My gas station went up a dollar in a week. Paid $5.39 today. $20 for quarter tank haha. Thinking I should have filled it up because it's gonna keep rising. most I've ever paid. I have a yak and I'm still thinking I need to quit drinking beer so I can afford to even get to the water.

My Jerkbait Game is No Good
I caught my first jerk bait fish a few weeks ago on a pond. I used little jerk baits, got a crappie too. Pond is maybe an acre. Was a small floating jerk so it wouldn't sink into the snot a few feet down. I agree with the poster on the first page about not using too much action. I brought my bait close to shore and the action looked extreme, totally unrealistic. If I lightly twitch the rod I get better results.

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
Thanks. And you bring up a good point. The cartoon is actually the fish just holding up the stick so the lure will snag it and grab it as it goes by. You never know how someone is going to see it though. When I made video games I thought I had this one game fool proof, as in easy to learn to play. Tutorial, everything. I was wrong! When I watched people try and play it I couldn't believe it. Some couldn't even understand the tutorial! But different interpretations are also part of the fun sometimes Absolutely! Thanks for reminding me! Plus I'm gonna do it anyways, but it's the first time I've shown anyone this stuff. The owner of the company I work for, if I learned one thing from him, is to not be afraid to try something new. His first question is, "How can I do that?" rather than, "I can't do that" My drawing pad, pencils and pens came today, colored pencils and sharpener tomorrow LOL. That was fast! Not sure how often I will use color.

Clear Lake & Motherlode Combo -- inspections?
The mussels these rules are meant to protect the lakes from are actually very nasty. I hate the inspections but I understand them. Where I live if one drop of water comes out of your motor or is found anywhere on the boat you are banned from a number of weeks. Interesting that Clear Lake will let you wash it. Sounds more reasonable. Of the many times I have paid for an inspection only one person gave it a halfway decent look. Everyone else just took my money and let me pass, maybe glanced at it. Kinda made me mad since I'm paying them to inspect my yak.

Potential World Record Meanmouth. Guess where?
I think it's cool he released the fish, hope it survived. Better than, "Yep, she's the biggest on the planet, a real one of a kind beaut', grew and stayed alive somehow for many many years. Looks great up there next to the Coors Light neon, dunnit?"

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
Thanks! I drew here and there as a kid. Don't know if I'm good but some people can't draw anything, so there's that. I'm a graphic artist among other things, but the work isn't too interesting. Mainly Photoshop, product labels. But to me, the story of each cartoon is most important. How subtle should it be, should there be a caption? Can any little details help it out? The artwork can be "good or bad" as long as it conveys the message. I think. I drew most of these almost a year ago and thought I should buy pens etc and make them better, but I kept putting it off. A few nights ago I drew some stuff again and figured what the heck. These are all rough drafts. I'd rather do something else than watch TV so figure I'll give this a go. Not sure what I will do with them or where to post them. ETA: Just laughed at my goofy looking fish in one of the above images. I'm experimenting

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
I ordered some pencils and drawing pens and good paper last night, so I will do this for fun, and not just fishing, probably animals in general. Not really sure. I know there's a thread started somewhere here several months ago of another guy doing bass cartoons. That's all good! The ones I've posted are old. Here's two quickies I did last night. I want to play this joke on a friend when he takes a bathroom break next time we bank fish. Put a note in a baggie and stick it on his line (yes I know the worm can't get past the bullet weight, oops!): Here is the original of the one above - I did this one twice last night to practice. And this thread is probably in the wrong section....

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
Here is one more. This is my favorite so far. I've shown it to two non-fishermen and neither "got it". Hopefully you guys will. I'm going to redo a full-color version of this one for sure just for myself.

Fishing Cartoons - Should I try It?
Last May I started a weird thread and I included a cartoon I drew of aliens fishing for people: A few days later I drew a bunch more fishing cartoons. I'm wondering if I should re-make some of these, or if I should give it up. I've been wondering this for almost a year. I'm thinking about getting some art supplies and making better versions. I have a lot of ideas. I can't draw great but I think I can do the humor part okay. I'll let you guys decide. I drew most of these about 9 months ago. The fish in the foreground is just me practicing drawing fish. My favorite caption is the last one I think: "Shake it, baby!" Lotta caption ideas for this one - bass shrink: Caption possibility: "The whole experience was so frightening. I get anxiety every time I see a fat juicy worm! I'm losing weight. I can't spawn...I'm a wreck, doc!" The cartoon that got me started. Many captions for it in the old thread above: One possible caption: Alien 1: "Sure you can get numbers with the hot wings, but if you want a fatty you gotta use a cheeseburger!" Alien 2: "I can't tell the cows from the people on my graph" So I think I'm going to give this a try. I will remake a few of these, and a few I have not shown (my favorites). I like to let the image do most of the talking, and I don't like explaining the cartoon or making it too obvious. If I can do it without a caption that is what I prefer. I'm not looking to sell these or make a coffee table book. I'm just doing it for fun. Let me know what you guys think, I can take it.

What is wrong with me?
ATA, I'd like an updated photo of the back of your truck. Is it still full of gear? For anyone who hasn't seen the amount of gear in the photos ATA has posted, it's pretty incredible!

Tackle Warehouse communication issues?
I've only bought two rods without handling them first, one was a Fenwick HMG that I saw recommended here many times. I love it! The other rod, I managed to tweak and fix a very slightly misaligned guide. It is hard to find things in stock now so I made it work and it's perfect now. Covid has made it much more difficult to find stuff. I had to order my HMG from a small store in Minnesota. I checked them out first to make sure they were legit. It was the only rod I found anywhere in stock. But I like to handle a rod really, even if a store doesn't have the exact power or whatever I want in stock at least I can feel it and see the build.

What is your go to “I’m 100% gonna catch” lure?
So far it's something different every year, except for that whole 100% thing. T-rigged worm has done me well, except when it doesn't.

I wonder about posting pics in general.
I like the smiles too. With all the beards it's hard to tell what some people look like until they have a big grin. My main reason for wearing a GoPro on my head is that if something special happens I will have it for myself. Whether it's a PB, cool birds flying by, a dog chasing me, it's all for me first.

Lost my taste !!
Edit: Oops I see you're better now! Great news! *********** Definitely a symptom of Covid. I know a woman who lost her sense of taste and smell 14 months ago due to Covid. She to this day tastes and smells nothing and it makes it very difficult to cook. She can't even tell if food is rotten sometimes. Her doctors said she could possibly do something about it when it first started but she refused to go, I don't know why. She's the 55 year old mother of a gal I work with. It has also messed with her short term memory, like she will ask the same question 5 times in 10 minutes. Sucks. There was no vaccine when she got it. I don't know what treatment could have helped, ask a doctor about it maybe.

Tackle Warehouse communication issues?
In my experience a low price guarantee often involves price matching. They can't possibly know every price at every store constantly. I'll do a little legwork if I can find a deal. In fact I sometimes find a low price online, then have the local guys match it if it's in stock. If it's a small store I probably won't, I feel guilty making them match internet prices.

Oakley Prizm shallow water lenses
I found this and other articles. https://www.sportrx.com/blog/oakley-prizm-deep-water-vs-shallow-water-lens-review/ Sounds like the difference between these two is the color of the water (Deeps is for ocean, Shallows for inland water (green)). I'm guessing they are made to filter slightly different colors.

I wonder about posting pics in general.
Photos shmotos! It's all about video! If you're wondering why you show off photos then I really gotta wonder why a crap angler like me has a Youtube channel! But then, I have to REALLY wonder about the people who WATCH me! "Hopefully schplurg will get better one day...." People watch me fish! Are you crazy? I love it, it's fun. I started it as a way to show my fishing buddy videos of us fishing together. We lived a few hours apart so it was the easiest way. I had a GoPro laying around so I started using it after watching other Youtubers. After a short time someone subscribed and commented and I was like "what the...?" So after awhile I started talking to the camera a bit and trying to put together better content. I don't make money at it. Sometimes I show photos to maybe get friends interested in fishing, sometimes to show others that I'm not always at my computer, sometimes I want to show the people close to me how much fun I'm having and they're not! I rarely catch anything worth showing off, but I'm sure that's part of it in some way. I don't really care why, and I stopped asking myself if the Youtube channel was weird or whatever. I find it fun to edit videos and show them. It's kinda not "like me" to do because I'm not on any type of social media. I'm kinda quiet. But I enjoy it so why ask why? Edit: As an angler I enjoy looking at them too. I mean other people's pics here. Bring 'em on! So many different shapes and sizes and lures.....It's cool.

For you kayak folks, do you mount your fish finder on the left or right side?
My screen doesn't get in the way of my fishing so it could be on either side (6 inch screen Echomap). It is low, on the rail as close to the seat as I can get it. I placed it thinking I would prefer to land my fish on the left side rather than the right, given the choice. It can possibly get in the way of landing, but it is so close to me it really shouldn't. My arms reach out farther than that, and the rod is around 7' long. I may change one day, I haven't done this for very long so who knows. But like I said, it isn't in the way of my rod no matter what I'm doing (jerk, skip...). Old Town PDL 106. Hard to see much in this photo, but it's barely higher than my seat. I may try mounting it beside me on the seat one day. Try different locations. That's what I'm doing, which is why the wire is just stuffed in the pocket

Floor for my fishing cart
Here's some pre-drilled PVC sheets for $15. Maybe too small but it's a start. Not sure it would cut well due to holes hmmm. I just Googled "plastic sheet with holes" and found this and others... https://www.ebay.com/itm/203374545501 This would be fun to customize. Wish I had a use for one! Could make it look like a Radio Flyer maybe ABS would be good if you could find it with holes already (see above)

Inflatable PFDs, pocket-loss replacements?
Was looking at these a few days ago: Track Mounted Tool Pockets This tool pouch mounts to your track and hangs inside. Can hold pliers, maybe a scale, few things. Bunch of companies make them. There are pouches that mount behind the seat, or beneath it. Drawer systems under the seat. I don't want anything on me that will get ruined if I fall in - phone, lighter, wallet - or that can fall out and sink like keys. Relocate items you don't really need on your person.
