Clearing out a nasty backlash, big tank LM decides to hit topwater hard…..
I've tried to quit backlashing, but I just can't. Every time I try to quit they pull me back in!

Y'all Ever Jerks?
I met Gary one day when he pulled my truck out of a hole that one of the rear wheels fell into. Yes, "fell into", dirt road caved in under it. Sunk to the differential. 95 degree day near Ripon. Other people cruised by pretending not to see me. I get in my own head and don't always want to be bothered but I'm friendly almost always. It takes me 30 seconds to go from "I'm fishing leave me alone" to my normal friendly self. Within those 30 seconds though I am often easily annoyed. It just takes a few secs to snap out of it, unless the other person is a jerk. One day at New Melones a guy was walking the bank toward me casting as he went. I thought "This jerk is not going to just walk right into me and keep fishing is he? Grumble grumble." Just then the guy asks "I can fish through right?" I'm like I guess that's asking LOL and I said of course go for it. Went from jerk to softie in a split second. We talked awhile, nice guy. Dude just like me pounding the banks.

Night fishing during the Dog Days of Summer
Not at all it takes great skill to catch blind fish!

Night fishing during the Dog Days of Summer
And many bass are deep where it's darker than near the surface and should take even less time to adjust. If this has been proved scientifically then I accept that. I'm not making a claim, I'm just skeptical. Of course one video does not prove anything, but here I am catching two in 15 feet of water just after dark (one tied my PB which I hooked in less than 4 feet of water). Based on my own experience I am not waiting an hour after dark to fish. However, I do know you are way more experienced at this than I and I respect that.

Night fishing during the Dog Days of Summer
I question the idea that fish need time to adjust to the darkness after sunset. Darkness happens gradually. I don't need time to adjust if I'm out there as it gets dark. Also, bass don't rely entirely on sight to hunt. Edit: I've caught two of my largest fish just after sunset (complete dark), and I have them on video.

Heat Wave fishing!
I will go anytime! I did fish that day and got two bites, but I think they were little dinks hanging around some 2 inch frye I saw swimming around the bank. Even that little bit of action helped my attitude though. I wore shoes with no socks and found the bank is growing new thorn bushes everywhere. That was fun. I will bring my machete next time (tonight I think). I really will go whenever you are able to. My offer still stands for Tulloch too (I know it's out of your range but just saying).

Heat Wave fishing!
Cool, surprised it took so long to get a striper! I love stripes, they are fun! I may fish this evening for first time in awhile, and I'd better hurry. 6:40 pm already. It's 88 right now. Not too bad but not real motivated, which is why I will go. I haven't felt the desire to fish lately so gonna see what's up with that.

Storing garbage and recycling on your boat
I have a zillion plastic bags from food shopping. I'd get paper but they're useless now. Rrrrippp! But I don't even use those. Speaking as a kayak user and not a boat, I just don't create trash. If I eat something I put the bag back in my food bag where it came from. If I open a lure I put the packaging wherever the lure was being stored. I use thermoses rather than buying bottled water. I guess I need to ask...what trash? If people create enough trash to need a trash system maybe they should rethink what they bring on the boat

Smallest Fishing Kayak
I thought about squeezing my PDL 106 in my mini-van (seats are out), but it would need to ride up onto my passenger seat (or remove that seat too). The thought of putting the wet and possibly filthy and smelly boat in my vehicle at the end of the day....no thanks. Another thought was that getting in an auto accident could kill me. I really don't want that heavy boat right next to me. I suppose you could fasten it down.

What is the best fish catch log app?
Doesn't FishBrain post where people caught all their fish? Or would that information be secret to you if you wanted it to be? Sounds like a good way to destroy good fishing spots.

Anyone vouch for MillerTech?
https://www.youtube.com/c/WillProwse This guy tears apart, inspects and reviews lithium batteries, including the cheap Amazon ones (some of which are very good). I highly recommend this guy he knows his stuff. No I'm not affiliated with him at all but I have recommended his channel several times here.

please be smarter than me. back injury moving kayak.
Yoga is supposed to be a workout so you strengthen your back. Darth has the right idea. Strengthening your core and everything else will help prevent injuries. I've suffered from lower back issues and yoga has been the best thing for it. I recommend the DVD by Peggy Cappy called something like "Back Care Basics: Yoga for the Rest Of Us". It really helped me tremendously. It's not as much of a workout I suppose as other yoga. You don't stand at all, for instance. Darth, not sure about your injury, but hiking (like you've been doing) has helped with a recent back strain I had, even went to the ER for it. Three weeks later I did my toughest hike yet with 20 pounds in my pack and it was a breeze. As for the kayak I wonder when that will happen to me, mainly when I'm putting it on the roof. It's another reason I started hiking and doing some workouts.....not getting hurt doing the things I enjoy And so I can pedal farther!

Bass bite dies after noon?
I used to fish a nearby creek before it dried up and I'd catch bass all summer near cover, or in a few deeper or shady spots. I caught my PB 15 feet off the bank in a pond in late June. Was shady... Fishing has been typically better for me in the summer.

Frustration on the Range. Golf.
I agree. There's a machine dispensing the balls making noise, depending on where you go. It's often right next to the parking lot. Phones ringing. Dumping balls into your tray is kind of part of it. I think the noise is good for practice. I don't recall Tiger ever encouraging people to get loud while he or anyone else took their shot. Perhaps golf would be more entertaining if they could! That would be funny to see. It might even be easier once you got used to it, rather than worrying about someones candy wrapper making noise.

It's fricking HOT!
And it's only June

Thinking about fishing caused me to drink my own pee
That would be much worse ^^^ Worst I've done is pour beer onto a tortilla chip thinking it was the Tapatio bottle. Done it twice while watching TV in the dark. * you get my vote for thread title of the year

Looking For Shade On A Hot Summer Day
Nah, your one important lesson should be that most people responded with helpful information Someone posted a website recently that had a map with water temps for all the lakes, including different temps for different areas at different times of the day. Can't remember what it was.

A different kind of kayak accessory
Some weird dude wandered into Boston Market a few days ago and tried to sell me a watch while I was in line. Told him to go away. It had hands on it, like...what are those things? Was kinda nostalgic though having some guy try to sell me a watch. "Psst...hey Mac..."

Daiwa Fuego is that normal?
I have a CT and the release has a tiny amount of movement, like barely any. I have an old Shimano next to it that is the same.

Road-Tripping Bass trip?
My Dad told me the other night, "Mike, I'm a wealthy man, I can do pretty much whatever I want when I want. But the money just doesn't mean anything. It really means nothing" We'd had a serious talk earlier and he was uncharacteristically drunk that night. We talked for hours. I think what he meant was that family, and all the other stuff we talked about meant more to him than the money. Now if you ask me (or anyone else) he's kinda full of it! He loves money and he loves HIS stuff. He's always been that way ever since he was a boy, probably a bit too much. But he's a good family man as well and it's always been important. Crap what was I trying to say!? I'l let my Gramma explain: "Mike, travel and have fun while you're young! Last time I went to Italy to visit family I could barely walk any distance. It's too painful when you're old!"

securing rods in a canoe/kayak
I used StarBoard to make a bracket that attaches the holders to my milk crate. Just used screws and washers to attach it. I did not cut the "locking slots" I suggested into these tubes. pic 2) Used heat and a wine bottle to flare the ends. pic 3) Made a jig to route the slots into the black PVC.

What’s night fishing like?
I've only night fished off the dock really but I can say one thing about it....it's a trip. It's sometimes creepy standing there in almost pitch black quiet, then suddenly feeling something alive tugging on your line. It's just a different experience to me. Your senses are heightened, you can feel and picture every plant and every rock as you retrieve. And have fun casting! Just relax and cast normally. I tried to "aim" or steer my cast at night at first. One cast went 90 degrees left onto the roof of the neighbors dock. It may still be there. I was staring toward the water waiting for the splash and my left ear caught it. Ya that was cool. Have everything you need at the ready - a light, multi-tool whatever, camera if you want, because finding it in the dark is not fun with a fish flopping around.
