  1. No it's not just you. It's gotten worse since the pandemic. I worked all through the pandemic and it was pretty much a free for all up here in the beginning. No police, no one being pulled over. People were consistently doing 60 plus in a 30/40, there was very little regard for traffic 'laws'. Full disclosure I was part of that...I mean no traffic, no one outside, sure I enjoyed being the only one on the road at times. Honestly it was pretty awesome! However once the roads were full again I dialed it back. others haven't....

Yeah my parents are in about the same proverbial boat as yours. Pun intended, it is a fishing forum lol. Short of going to live there and reversing the parent child relationship there's not much I can do except stay connected. Hopefully conversations will reveal future or current lapses in judgement and I can try to mitigate. Pretty much wonder every day if I'm going to get that phone call... Regardless of what's after this reality...mortality and all it brings is a mother... And if I was closer I'd hang out and fish with ya Catt!
  3. That happened to us in Canada. Storms were forecasted for the day and definitely in the area just not on top of us so we were still fishing. It was only when you lifted your rod, not when it was parallel or pointed down to the water. We had fun with it for a few minutes and decided we better get off the water. Luckily nothing bad happened while having fun...
  4. Shh...lol Also to the OP, sorry for the slight hijack...when I first started fishing swim jigs I tried setting the hook like it was a stationary jig on the bottom. Missed a lot of fish. I quickly found that if I waited for like a micro second and did more of a sweeping hookset as mentioned above my hooking percentage jumped to like 99%
  5. How do you like them? I picked up a couple of the Lethal weapon (I think the 2) but haven't thrown them yet
  6. I prefer swim jigs with a lighter wire hook and a sparser weed guard. I'm fishing rivers and smallies tho. I've also fished a swim jig with a bit stouter weed guard and hook. Also fished with both braid and mono. No problems with hook ups on any combo. The fish want it or they don't.
  7. This ^^ I've had the 'tic' bite, the 'crap I'm snagged' bite, the 'I hooked a wet t-shirt' bite, the 'feel nothing' bite (why's my line moving?) along with others. I tried to explain what a bite felt like to my kids when teaching them to fish. I gave up after several minutes of stammering. You'll figure it out
  8. I guarantee my braid and mono gets damaged by backlashes
  9. Yeah it's just muscle memory. Use only a 'lefty' bc for a whole weekend. Your brain will eventually get it, mine did, lol

Another maybe depending on what you have
  11. Simple explanation is timing. You hit it just right. For whatever combination of conditions/reasons the bigger fish (assuming mostly female) were on the feed. Relish in it! I've had several days like that and it's part of what keeps me coming back. I would not call the current period early spring at least for me in IL. More like mid-late spring. Looking at the map going to assume your weather is similar as we are on the same latitude. Altho it does feel like things are running a skosh late this year. Curious, were the fish warmer than the air and water?
  12. McCoy or Sunline Defier Armilo
  13. Wish we had an Ollies....
  14. So the same size container as the 3003 but no walls correct. I don't know if that exists... you could always snip the walls out of 3003
  15. You probably already know all this... If I recall correctly from the article I read there is minimal blood supply to certain areas of the body. So you have limited nutrients (oxygen etc.) getting to those areas to help with healing and/or building more tissue. The PRP premise is that by bombing the the injured area with blood (oxygen, nutrients etc.) you'll get better healing etc. I believe some people had really good results and others not so much. To me it seems as if this would best utilized right after surgery during the recovery and rehab portion. However if your insurance will pay it can't hurt to try.... Really sorry you are struggling! I've had my share of injuries, surgeries, car accidents etc. over the years and the body suffered. So I get it, at least a little bit.....
  16. I'll add a few. When I first started wading before I knew anything about current flow, gauge height or that the usgs had a site that monitored that stuff, I decided I wanted to fish the other side of the river. So I figured water clarity is good/I can see my feet, as long as I can stay about waist level I should be good. Yeah...no, was about 30 feet from the opposite shore when my feet got swept out from under me. I think my heart stopped for a second. All turned out okay. I took a little float down the river, got me feet back under me and since I had tighter neoprene waders on only got the one arm and a small portion of chest shoulder wet. Yes I held onto my fishing pole. I think it's instinct cause now when I slip on mud or lose my balance on cobble I toss my fishing pole so I don't snap it when my hand goes down to break my fall. The other one was really scary. Group of us used to go up to Canada every year for a week. Probably our 5th trip up a buddy and I were out in the lodges little aluminum boat. We were having a good afternoon picking up walleye in a light to moderate rain. At some point the fish turned off and we were done dealing with the rain etc. We got our gear stowed and started the motor to head back to the lodge. Some of you probably already now what happened next. I turned that throttle, the bow went up and all the water in the boat rushed to the back of the boat. So the bow is extra high, we are not planing(sp?) out, I look at my buddy, then I look at the back of the boat. The water inside the boat is about an inch from the top. The top of the boat is about an inch from the water. I motioned for my friend to get to get as far front as possible, grabbed the bailing can and started bailing for our lives. All turned out okay. Huge, huge lesson learned! Last one is slightly comical except for the lost gear. Different buddy and I are fishing, again in an aluminum lodge boat. We are cruising across the lake and my buddy is swerving back and forth, just a little bit, nothing reckless. He stops swerving and we are going straight for 30 seconds, a minute? All of sudden water somehow comes in the boat over the transom and the boat does this sideways skid and my buddy gets thrown out. I was kicked back in the front just chillin when all this happened. My buddy yells to turn off the motor and as start to make my way up and back the boat starts sinking. I take a step, the boat sinks a little. I take another step the boat sinks a little more. Third step and I'm just going down with the boat. We grabbed as much gear as we could but it happened so fast! Plus you can only grab so much stuff and tread water at the same time. Luckily it was nice weather and some pleasure boaters pretty much immediately stopped to help us. We were young, strong, a little dumb, definitely could have swum to shore so that's why I say it's a little comical. I realize stuff like this goes bad all the time so not making light per say
  17. Ziploc gallon bags by size in copy paper boxes
  18. Yeah I would get retested, 3/4 of the family got it at a Christmas party. I tested negative 4 days after exposure (wed) and a day before my fever started. I retested 6 days later (tue) once I had the energy to drive and was of course positive. I was also sick March 2021 and tested negative. However no doubt in my mind it was covid as the symptoms and progression were the same as my recent Christmas illness. By the same I mean EXACTLY to the hour.... Vaccinated in between those two bouts.... just sharing how it went for me not taking sides. I hope all works out and you have no lingering effects!
  19. Yep. Years ago I found a xrap at the river. Tied it on thinking maybe whoever lost it knew something I didn't. Fallible logic but still.... I tore em up the rest of the day on that xrap 08
  20. The only references I have seen to lithium batteries and cold have related to ice fishing and using battery powered augers. That was several years ago and they were using cordless drills and their batteries.
  21. Lol, down, once we get fishable water/weather
  22. I appreciate everyone's input thus far. Yeah I figured it was a unicorn type deal. Been mulling over even posting the question but figured why not. I think my overall goal is to simplify and do more with less.
  23. I know one rod won't do it all but really not satisfied with my current choices. Mostly wade rivers, plan to kayak a little more. When wading I prefer carrying one rod. Looking for both spinning and casting rod suggestions (do prefer casting tho). Lures thrown will be both treble and single hook applications 1/4 to 3/4 oz. baits Mostly fishing straight braid but went back to mono last year just because, so could fish either depending on application. Started out with a 6' 9" st croix avid mlxf spinning and casting. Like - how the xf tip loads up and can snap lures out there bonus on working a jerkbait. Dislike - totally underpowered for the heavier stuff I eventually started fishing. Picked up a mb gen 1 XX spinnerbait special. Like - how it throws spinnerbaits and it's decent at throwing a portion of the above baits. Like the heavier power for weeds and current. Dislike - it just doesn't seem to load up enough casting the lighter stuff. Also don't feel connected enough to lure when retrieving the lighter stuff. Also picked a mb gen 1 flatside special. Like - (love) how loads up when a fish hits, even throws a 1/4 oz. square bill okay... Like the heavier power for weeds and current. Dislike - while better than the SS still feels a little disconnected when retrieving lighter stuff. If the st. croix and flatside special got together and had a love child rod...... so I guess I'm looking for a rod with multiple power and multiple action. Would like to keep it around $200. I'm open to pricier stuff but no more than $500.
  24. What does covering the pond mean? And why? Just curious, never heard the terminology. Also the only time I fished a quarry I used a deeper suspending jerkbait forget the brand but it probably went down 10 ft. or so.
