  1. Idk if it's due to fertilizers. It's in all three rivers that make up the IL. You'd have to go back and look up historical accounts to see what the rivers were like when the settlers moved into the area. The only time(s) I've not seen it bad is when there is extended high water in the spring. By high water I mean the water stays dirty so less sunlight can penetrate. Little sun = little algae. At least that's been my experience over the years..
  2. So you're unhooking both sides of the snap so you can maneuver through both holes on blade? Or something to that effect? I think those egg snaps are rated pretty high for strength. As long as you're not overly stressing the wire you should be fine.
  3. Idk about the quality of predator lures but two of the three 110's and all of the knockoffs I've tossed in my rivers have broken bills. I've come to the conclusion that the design that gives them such good action is also structurally weak. I'd be interested in any tips, links etc. you guys have for trying to glue in a replacement lip. I probably have a dozen plus broken baits.
  4. Not trying to stir, just sharing. Prior to March 2021 I would get an occasional high pitched whine in one or the other ear and it would last 5-10 seconds and go away. Kinda like a train whistle when the train is going by. Kind of intense but fades quickly. Maybe once a month...? I do have seasonal allergies. Also attended a few loud concerts back in the day. Got sick in March of 2021 with what I am 99.7% certain was covid because 9 months later when I officially got covid the symptoms were 100% the same with the pattern and timing of symptoms being 100% the same both times. I bring this up because when I got sick in March 2021 one of the after symptoms was ringing in the ears. It went away after several weeks. When I officially got covid I had the same after symptom of ringing in the ears. This time it didn't go away. So finally after like 2 months I made an appointment with my GP and subsequently ENT for a hearing test. My hearing was 100 percent fine. It's been about 16 months and the ringing has slowly declined in both intensity and frequency. Unfortunately it is not gone and probably never will be. I don't know how bad my ringing truly was compared to others but when it started I did have the thought of "this intense, the rest my life, I don't know if I could deal...".
  5. I went to an event with a co-worker/friend of mine years ago to check it out. He was giving a speech and I was just interested in what it was all about. Based on my exceptionally limited exposure I would recommend it.
  6. Here's a link to idnr. You'd have to call to confirm but it says the whole lake is no wake v the previous 10 hp limit statement. https://www2.illinois.gov/dnr/Parks/Activity/Pages/ShabbonaLake.aspx
  7. So with the above said would you grease and oil differently for cold weather fishing? By cold I mean 30's maybe low 40's? It could be in my head but feel my reels don't perform as well in the colder months that I fish.
  8. Is it fairly obvious if these parts are bad?
  9. Thanks. So what does that mean? Is it repairable? Would that mean new rotor? Is it even worth it? I mean I liked the reel until that started happening.
  10. The bail will close while casting. Not every time...definitely if there is a a bit of a snap to my cast. Also sometimes when trying to bomb something. Was using it on both a St Croix 6'9" MLXF and a St Croix Premier 7' M. Assuming it's the bail spring and it needs replacing. Anyone else have a different idea? Thanks
  11. Backlashes or spinning reels? lol Yeah I've gotten my share of wind knot/spinning reel backlashes. That's the hate part of my love/hate relationship with braid. Yes I do close the bail with my hand.
  12. Did your hands get wet or was it condensation/sweating because you had the Huk gloves on? Would you be able to tie a knot or work a snap with the Huks on? Currently use nitrile gloves when it's lower/mid 40's for waterproofness and occasionally pair them with super thin polypro glove liners when it's in the mid to upper 30's. My system works great for me! But looking for something a little more 'sustainable'. If I'm careful I can get a few wears out of the nitrile but eventually they tear when removing or a hole from a hook
  13. I don't think it's just forums/the internet. Five of us at lunch today. One person commented that they had never seen anyone eat a grapefruit with a grapefruit spoon before. Three of us were like, umm, no that's the only way to eat a grapefruit. Everyone proceeded to giving their POV etc. No feelings appeared to be hurt but it certainly resembled the start to this post lol Btw I was the grapefruit eater. Alright let the comments fly about how bitter and nasty grapefruits are lol
  14. You'd do a deeper dive into google but at first glance they are artificial so no latex. Pretty sure this is what most industries have moved to due latex allergies
  15. I'll be interested in your report on the dipped gloves. Whether or not they are waterproof and the dexterity; can you tie a palomar knot or open a snap? I wear nitrile down to about 40 and need glove liners under the nitrile below that,
  16. I picked up an Ego Kryptek clear rubber one a couple years ago. I like it. I have nothing to compare it to tho...
  17. That happened to me once. I can't remember all the details (make, model etc.) but I unlocked someone else's car. The key fob wasn't working so I had to unlock manually. I was starting to get in when I realized it wasn't my car. I was like 'I don't understand", why was I able to unlock someone else's car?
  18. If your really interested in a documentary check out Idiocracy. It's a little dated but still relevant.
  19. Lol Umm yeah a little
  20. Probably the last time you ask this crowd that type of question lol It seems to me like it's more of a muscle/body/physics thing. While your shoulder is not actually rotating, right to left seems like an internal "rotation" versus left to right is more like external rotation. Altho that logic only works if you hold your fishing pole in your right hand. Any lefties want to chime in?
  21. Can't help you with your swimbait question but spend some of your kids inheritance and get a rubberized net that the hooks won't stick to
  22. Idk anything about bacon wrapped walleye...but prior to covid we did a potluck at work every Thanksgiving for years. One year someone wrapped one of the turkeys in bacon and stuffed it with another pound of bacon. It's the best 'smoked' turkey I've ever had!!
  23. Idk that wool actually keeps you warmer... I feel it's more like it doesn't get as wet as say a cotton product. Therefore it dries faster, stays breathable, doesn't cling like a wet t-shirt making you feel warmer/drier. Idk maybe it really does keep you warmer because of what I just said lol. Smartwool, Icebreaker and Ibex are the standard. I picked up a Patagonia Fitz Roy 1/4 zip R-1 a couple years ago on closeout that makes a great mid layer. They new version is a skosh lighter in material but I think it's worth checking out if you can find on sale. Also like Patagonia's capilene.
  24. After my one and only weeklong cruise experience it took like a week after for me to stop swaying like I was still on the ship. So yeah sorta....can't remember if it affected my driving tho.
