  1. I'm guessing you are talking about the waterproof version. MSRP on that edge box is like $40. $30 now at amazon and walmart. But if you can get them at 20 stack em up, that's cheap.
  2. 6" 6th sense whale is a definite fish catcher. I probably have 10 packs of them floating around now. So is the 6th sense sweep. 7" zaldain unrigged works pretty good too, and is big enough to cull out the 2 lbs fish mostly. I really want a top hook line through though - I thought that Zaldain top hook one was a fixed hook like the bacca burrito. Going to have to pick one up.
  3. +1 sleeper for big prespawn fatties.
  4. Lost the biggest fish I've ever seen last weekend. Well, all I got to see was the head, she couldn't get out of the water. When that head came up and it was clearly big enough to get both fists in her mouth, and was too big to get any higher, I knew I messed up bad. One shake and the bait went flying. Bit on the bottom and started rocketing to the surface, I thought it was a small fish and behaved accordingly. Lesson 1: I broke a rod earlier that day for that presentation, and replaced it with a much stiffer rod because it was handy and would work ok. [failure. my fault, more bend would have given me a little more chance to keep her pinned] Lesson 2: If it rockets off the bottom, and you are in a place (point with immediate access to feeding/spawning flat and very deep water access too) where it could be a monster, act like it's a big fish until proven otherwise. I had had a very productive day and was half-assing managing the fish. [failure. my fault] I've had three big [by texas standards] fish losses in the last three years and every single one was an unforced error. Better every day... Oh and to add insult to injury, my inside voice told me "Well I can put you on the fish but I can't catch them for you"
  5. Cabelas Advanced Angler bags are great for big bags. Midsized, the TackleWarehouse bag is hard to beat. Backpack depends a lot on whether you are mostly 3700 boxes or 3600s. I don't like the ones built around the 3600's, but that's personal preference.
  6. I was very close to buying that tool, then I saw a vid where the guy tied the braid on his belt loop or shirt button instead of holding in his teeth. Was pretty easy to tie after that change.
  7. I looks like plano decided to take some of the features from Edge and push them down to the standard box, and keep the price the same. Appears to be exclusive to BPS for a little bit. Anyone tried them yet?
  8. There was a thread here when the Zillion first came out and it seemed like it was basically a non-ags steez.
  9. Pretty sure they use tilapia here as forage for bass ie they deliberately stock them in the lake to spawn like crazy. All that spawning is making big fat bass. They mostly eat plant life.
  10. 100% a fan of these. I only use twistlocks in a couple of situations now but this is one of them. The jackall archelon has a hollow body and is perfect for this hook and presentation - pop it through one side and not the other. Can fish a couple of them all day long and go through lots of fish. Pretty sure the 3/0 are just the right size for the archelon. My weights have an indention on the bottom so the top of the screwlock is kindof hidden, or I'm using a skirted weight. So in both cases no grass hanging on them.
  11. Dwalkers and biospawn are better on swimjigs than a keitech imo. Bit stiffer plastic, better suited to the faster pace.
  12. Anyone have good line-through alternative?
  13. Assuming man-made impoundments, yes they fish really differently from the dam to the shallowest end. Setups will be different, probably more cover oriented away from the dam and structure oriented near the dam. I've seen 3-4 degree temp differences from one end to the other in 1500 acres. Food preferences start to look different too. In my case the upper half of the lake feels like a 'big' lake - dramatic structure, lots of offshore bait, etc. Lower half feels like a 'small' lake - significantly more shallow, standing timber, etc. But someone mentioned above, the pattern might only be in one spot, because you may not have a repeat of a particular structure setup on a small lake.
  14. I do think that fish treatment has some impact on how likely they are to remember. Boat flip her and keep her out of the water for a full minute, or in your livewell for a while? Much more negative signal than grabbing lips by the water, unhooking, and letting her swim away. So when you do catch one, don't give it a reason to remember the event.
  15. Any sense for a consistent depth or pattern amongst the top 5? I was fishing south of there today and there was very little going on shallow, at least that I could find. Bigger fish seemed pulled off a bit from last weekend. Water was same temperature, south s/e wind.
  16. Maybe I'm late to the party, but I wanted to stroll a 7" sakamata shad today. Decided to try it on a big scrounger head. Seems like the scrounger head is supposed to do the same thing strolling is? Maybe the roll isn't as much on a scrounger? Certainly less finicky. What am I missing?
  17. Sticky jerkbait hooks I guess! I think I mostly figured out the gar today - they kinda have tendrils coming out the top and bottom of the FFS return, and it stays "tall" even under 50'. New question, I was putting the transducer back from perspective mode, and it looked wrong. Long story short, I had to go one click up from the mark and then it looked fine. Is that something do do with the mount attached to the TM being slightly downward facing? When set in the 'correct' position per the diagram it was definitely still facing too far down.

  19. Chain/Sign and a "text me when you want to come because it may already be occupied, when you arrive, and when you leave" conversation with anyone you are ok to fish/hunt. Last spot like this I fished I fixed the guys WiFi before I got on the water. If you don't want to "hard no" the next person, you might just say you're full, but you have a list, and you'll call them if a spot opens up. Might avoid the crowd that thinks they can just go anyway if you say no.
  20. 1) ok im not crazy. and way too deep of water for poles 2) got it thanks. I'll try to get really focused on what I see, I'm probably just overzealous 3) lvs-34 4) sorry i wasn't clear, I meant a five foot depth range. Like on a particular day, fish from 5-10 will eat and eat quick but deeper or shallower they are way less likely to eat. Said another way, not likely to be fishing 3' for some fish and 18' for some fish on the same day. But maybe not true at all. 5) oh that's really helpful in terms of concentrating the pixels down there. Thanks for the deep response. 1) yeah a bladed jig is like magic here, but the ffs fish are consistently bigs 2) interesting point about how they react. I'm surely guilty of catching at least one kinda big catfish every time. I need to be able to see the crappy return and not throw at it 3) yeah good point there on the depth range. I leave it on 20 if I can help it. 4) 5) yeah I'm fortunately able to get a ping back enough to know it's a fish vs weeds or crap on the bottom, but I'm probably missing even more fish that arent showing up at all. I'm going to go watch some more fish ID videos.
  21. Hi Todd , the silicone worked wonders. Very very smooth now. So smooth and easy I almost have to relearn foot control on the scope. But I didn't take your advice on 'a little' as I was going to have to unmount the foot pedal from the tray so I thought I would just spray some in there and get fishing. So now I need to take it out anyway to find the screw and tighten it up.
  22. 1) Wind was gusting 35+ according to the weather service, so probably faster on the downwind end of the lake this weekend. Man I was really having a hard time staying on fish, finding my bait, etc. Probably only 1/5 of my casts were any good. Is this solvable in any way? Skill up and eventually you'll figure it out? Or just get in coves/areas that aren't getting blasted? I wanted to be out on main lake points and their transitions into creek arms. But it was just silly hard. 2) the gar. The dang longnose gar. Is there a reliable way to ID gar? I keep catching them and it's a bit maddening. They seemed to stay at similar depths as the largemouth that are biting. 3) I leave the range on 100'. I've noticed that past about 50 everything looks 'tall' in the return, and as it gets to 50' it tends to blob out, get more horizontal. Is that just how it always is? 4) it kinda seems like the bass that will eat tend to be in the same 5-ish foot depth range. Am I noticing this right or I'm crazy? 5) Tips on identifying size of fish that are on the bottom? I can usually notice them vs weeds, but it's hard to tell how big they are. Trying to not waste time chasing smaller fish.
  23. Oh boy they make a 300 too. And both are on amazon for about half the US price.
