Second jerkbait rod opinions
I just picked up a SC LTW 6'3" MLXF spinning rod for similar purposes. It is to compliment an IMX SJR that is a bit too stiff the smaller baits that I use. Although long rods are usefully in open spaces, short rods are easier to maneuver around brush and into the less pressured areas on the banks. I don't remember why I sold my Crucial 63MLXF. It was a blast for those back handed casts made while balancing on a slippery rock under trees with low branches.

6' Casting Rod Recommendations Sub $300
I have an SJR 723 for close spinning work. I've used it for weightless senkos, but the 3 power would be too much for your L-M work. 2 power is closer to M power, so 721 sounds about right if light is more important to you than M or MH.

What's with Cabela's?
I was also there this weekend with some gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. After missing a few seasons of fishing I was looking forward to checking out the new generation of rods and reels. Slim pickin's on rods, and even the reel section was relatively bare. The Fuego LTs were behind the counter, but the could not be sold yet. For my needs, the Hartford Cabelas places too much emphasis on saltwater fishing. Bummer I picked up my renewed LTC on Saturday and it is useless in CT.

Multi-species Rod for my truck
I need to drive an hour north to N.A. for some real fishin'. I haven't yet seen my local quarry produce a bass (dinks) or bullhead that can't be handled by a MLXF I have some MH rods that need to be challenged.

Multi-species Rod for my truck
I was trying not to go down the rabbit hole of more expensive or multiple rods, but I have alway enjoyed fenwicks. For MY needs a 6'6" MLF would handle most of my needs (trout, panfish, bullhead & modest LMB). In an area with larger bass & catfish I would probably bump up to MF. If the baitmonkey got loose, I'd scour auction and overstock sights looking for bargains on travel rods. I have a couple Cabelas XML travel rods that are very good, and the travel rods from LL Bean feel decent.

I've got to join
I upload pictures similarly, but I'm more of a browser than a dragger (crank vs jig?? ) In the reply box I look for the paper clip for attachment and then click on the "choose files..." link to browse the computer. Using either the browse or drag approach you will want to make sure the total attachments are less than 1.46MB.

Multi-species Rod for my truck
MH will be too heavy for trout and ML may be too light for some bass & catfish techniques. 7' may give you more casting distance at ponds/lakes where there is little brush along the shore. 6' rod are easier to use where the banks are overgrown. Softer tips will be helpful with delicate trout bites, whereas stiffer tips help with setting the hook on larger fish. If you're just using a bobber and worm then even a bamboo rod will work. There's no right answer for the ideal all purpose rod, it's just a matter of identifying the compromises that work for YOU and the techniques that you will use most frequently.

Jig rod for both skipping and flipping?
Several of the more experienced members jig with rods under 7 ft. For decades 6'6" was considered a long rod. Also, considereal long rods have long handles. That may affect your technique in a kayak..

Vertical Jig Spinning Rod for All Purpose Use?
Because it was marked down $90 and had felt so good in my hand yesterday, I went back to the shop today and brought home the St Croix LTWS63MLX. I think it will be fun use from tight spaces on the banks. It should also be fun with pan fish. In my comparisons I kept going back and forth with the G Loomis IMX SJR722.

Rod sensitivity
Given I'm seldom rewarded with great catches, I make up for a lack of skill by enjoying the craftsmanship and design of fine equipment.

Rod sensitivity
Guilty as charged But, I get so few bites anyway, I really like to feel the ones that get away.

Vertical Jig Spinning Rod for All Purpose Use?
How are walleye vertical jig rods as all purpose rods? I will be fishing from the banks that have brush, tall grass & trees. Since I have 4 bass jig rods, I'm looking for an all purpose rod that will work with small cranks, topwaters and weightless plastics. I'm looking to compliment: Kistler Helium 2 7'0 mh Kistler Argon DS 6'11" mh Shimano Cumara DC 7'1" mh G Loomis IMX SJR 723 6'0"mh Browning Midas 6'6" mf - best casting distance and currently the moving bait rod Previously I had a 6'3" ML Shimano Crucial that was fun with most baits. It also was great for flicking lures around obstacles on the bank. Anyhow, today I saw the St Croix Legend Tournament Walleye 6'3" ML. It seemed to have a softer and slower action than the ML Avid and Avid X. The Medium version seem almost as stiff as my IMX 723, so I focused on the ML. I also played with an IMX SJR 722, but it still seemed a bit stiff for smaller baits. At my quarry I use a lot of Manns baby minus 1 cranks because deeper crank baits get caught/lost in the rocks on the bottom. Can a ML vertical jigging rod play a role as an all purpose bankbeating rod?

Am I the only one???
For me, Fishing jigs in a quarry leads to less than full spools and a lower inventory of jigs

Techniques & Baits for Duosnaps??
The baitmonkey thanks you. 4 of my 5 spinning rods are for bottom techniques. And...the remaining 2-piece is 9 or 10 years old.

Techniques & Baits for Duosnaps??
I’m hoping to nail down duosnap techniques. After an absence of a few years, I hope to get back to bass fishing this summer. Due to neuropathery from chemo, I will probably use duosnaps as much as possible. My assumption is that: Duosnaps SHOULD work well with hard body, moving treble hook baits such as: Crankbaits Poppers Walk-the-Dog Topwaters Hard Jerkbaits Duosnaps should NOT be used for bottom and single hook techniques such as: Jigs Weightless Plastics ShakeyHeads & Drop Shot Soft Jerkbaits and Swim Baits. I’ll be sticking with spinning gear this summer. Please correct me if my assumptions are off. Thanks!! Leon

$94 Budget combo
You may want to practice with a cheap 12lb or higher mono. Flouroclear is nice line, but awfully thin to untangle when you have a tight birdsnest.

What To Do With My Pflueger ?
I'm not an expert on this topic, but... Because the 40 size is fairly large (and sticks out from the rod), you probably want to consider the size and height of the stripper guide (closest to the reel). Typically it is preferred to have the line go from the reel through the guide with minimal tension and friction. For that reason it may be a better fit for heavier power rods that have guides positioned for larger reels. Take it to the shop and see what rods feel right with it. Also, being magnesium, it should stay away from salt water. I have the 30 size in that reel. It is smooth and light

Difference in Kistler Models - Chart Attached
In response to a question to Kistler Rods, I receive the attached chart highlighting the differences in the Kistler lineup. Since the models are priced fairly similarly, I've been trying to understand how the models differ. So far, this chart is the best source of information I've found yet. Leon

CADENCE RODS?
For $70 they look intriguing. There were some length and actions combinations that I have been looking for. However, of the 11 reviews, it seems as though half of them mention a broken tip. Hopefully, the rods and business model will work out. You can never have enough quality rods under $100.

Shelf Life of CoPoly (Gamma) Line?
What is the expected shelf of CoPoly Line? I've got a small stash of Gamma line (6, 10 & 12 lb) that probably ranges from 8 to 10 years old. It has been in dark basements that range from 50 to 70 degrees. Should I use it up or replenish it with new copoly to be on the safe side? Thanks, Leon

What are your favorite rod brands?
It depends on the need/technique, funds on hand, and what bargains I stumble across.
