  1. I would lean medium heavy. As far as your knot for fluoro I I use San Diego jam and haven’t had any issues. But knots are a subject with no shortage of opinions.
  2. That’s awesome. Good to see people using fishing to get together and share some fun. Happy for you.
  3. I accidentally catch plenty of pike and Muskie here in Minnesota and I own one rod that’s7’6” all the rest are shorter. I’d make the choice based on bass myself. 7’6” is plenty long.
  4. Happy early birthday ?
  5. I actually work a drop shot differently. I’ll hop it back, let it sit, hop it back again. I experiment with the cadence and as what works. Thanks for the response. I’m always trying to learn and this site has been helpful.
  6. Just curious how ned rig is more exciting or do you just mean you have success with that versus drop shot?
  7. For one thing I fish with zero electronics, but more importantly I’ll die of boredom fishing that way. That’s no knock on its effectiveness.
  8. True but a ned rig wouldn’t be any easier. I personally don’t fish a ned rig anymore but I do fish tubes and fish them more aggressively so for how I fish it the tube would be easier actually.
  9. Pretty incredible you catch a 26-28. Lb Muskie first time using. Congrats
  10. You will get many follow up questions…if those were my two choices I’d probably go mh.. that being said it won’t cast a 1.5 square bill very well. Also the medium would lean more towards the square bill because it will have more give. Some people like very parabolic action for chatterbaits though I’m just not one of them
  11. Almost always sit as I’m peddling and on the move
  12. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery! Unless we are talking fishing gear. It is pretty outrageous actually. Probably can’t name any squad in particular or I’d get in trouble ?
  13. I have the boonedox landing gear. It works well but I recommend buying a cheap plastic cutting board, cut out some pieces as big as will fit inside and out to help distribute the stress that the weight puts on the plastic. They come with plates but eventually the metal plates will start stress cracks. The addition of the bigger surface area of the plastic will prolong that. I’ve seen it first hand. Alternatively of course is a cart…. But boonedoxe is so convenient.
  14. Glad you have had 80 years, wish you many more my friend.
  15. One thing I’ll add is I pretty much only kayak fish and one of my favorite techniques is cranking and I have a 7’6” imx pro crank bait rod and the length is absolutely no issue. Kinda feel the kayak rod length problem is about as real as all the failed knot issues…I haven’t experienced it. Almost seems a few have, then it’s repeated, then it’sa” fact “ just my two cents
  16. I’d probably just take a 7’ish mh/fast rod. A frog, bullet sinkers, bobber stops, ewg hooks. Then a mix of creature baits and stick worms. And props to you for still rocking a fanny pack!
  17. I rarely drop shot but tried the netbait bait fuel lollipop this spring and it seemed to work pretty well.
  18. When my grandpa bought me an ugly stick back in 19dicketydoo I thought I had the best! But yeah now I also use mostly loomis lol.
  19. I’m thinking with the techniques you said you had rods for already, one of them can be used for jigs/small swim baits because as someone pointed out the jig is probably the odd technique out for what you’re looking for. I’d probably focus on a 100$ crank bait rod and with that you can throw a jerkbait as well. Thinking there are several 100$ reels that will work fine, I had a Tatula for around 100$ years ago but not sure if they still make it. Tackle warehouse has 15% off select items I’m not super familiar with the price point you are after maybe another member knows some of the discounted items. Sorry if this doesn’t give you a simple answer. Good luck!
  20. My experience, jigs work all year round. That being said I think confidence in a bait might be as or more important than the bait itself.
  21. Just put on the song “strokin” by Clarence Carter and it will all come naturally
  22. Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
  23. It still amazes me all the knot failures. If you properly tie a San Diego jam (just as an example not saying this is the best so relax) on either mono or fluoro you will be just fine.
  24. Awesome! When I was a kid nothing was cooler than seeing my grandpa proud of my fish catches. Great to see other families making memories on the water.
