  1. I am going through that with a guy that is relatively new to fishing. He wants to catch fish but only wants to fish the way he wants. Its frustrating when he moans about not catching any even though I try to help. And since he is new, he is giving up on techniques really quickly when he doesn't catch anything. I also have watched him reel baits out of a fishes mouth without ever jerking...
  2. Paddletail swimbaits - on my home waters they are the worst. Try as I may, they do not do diddly.
  3. A couple years ago I got a really good deal on 2 Daiwa Zillions. They were left handed reels and I thought I could make the switch. I was wrong and quickly sold them.
  4. Plastic worms.
  5. Close to shore with a colorado, you want it bubbling the surface - sometimes even break the surface and then pause it a bit. Otherwise there is no wrong way to fish them really. Its really understanding ambush points and angles. Bumping them off things, letting them fall in holes, running them through sparse lilly pads and pond weed. You have to very your retrieve a lot of times to get a reaction strike. There really isnt a bad time to throw one either.
  6. Fished a tournament Saturday at Promised land state park. I caught 28 bass, 20 pickerel, a perch and a 17" crappie that was about 2 pounds. I only managed a bag of 7.25 pounds in all those bass. Total dink fest but it was fun!
  7. I used to fish a lot of spinnerbaits on glass and never had a problem - still don't. But darn it if all those fish I had hooked didnt shake the hook on my Jackhammers. It was to the point it was about a 50/50 toss up and I didn't have the bone to steer the fish where I wanted. I suppose you can make due, but it isnt my cup of tea. I was using a 7'6" MH crankbait rod....
  8. GNARLY!!! I have wanted a wooden shellcracker ever since I saw one. I have been blessed!!!
  9. Thanks for the reminder...I have a tournament in the morning! Cant wait to donate money to fish for 8 hours and only catch a couple
  10. No really, of the boards I have been a part of in my life this one takes the cake for having the best membership. If you look online you can find some disgruntled people out there that have beefs with various members, but you will get that anywhere. You will find other forums almost dedicated to bashing companies, people or fishing things in general. Overall the members here are nothing but courteous, knowledgeable and willing to help a STRANGER out in need. Sure this place isn't perfect but things are mostly kept on point to keep the knowledge flowing that is our hobby. That is just awesome and something we need more of in the world. This site is provided by Glenn for free and has people freely giving up GREAT information based off topics, videos and questions, which in turn gets people from various fisheries and regions of the world adding notes that you can apply to the place you are fishing. It's truly amazing and if you don't think it is I dare you to read any one of the stickies in the tackle subforum in its entirety and tell me you didn't learn something new. I think....no, I know there are people here that have forgotten more knowledge on fishing than I will ever have. If I was going fishing in the south where they actually have big fish I would be browsing some of those subforums. ? One thing I have learned fishing is that the difference between the good fisherman and the average fisherman are vast and everyone has a different reason for taking part in tips activity - from pleasure and sport to necessity for food. Some people hold their secrets close to the vest and others share with the world. Regardless of your reasons anyone that ends up here is looking for information - whether they register and engage or just browse and learn this site has helped a lot of people get on more fish. I browsed this site for a good 15 years before registering...actually I may have registered a long time ago but I have no idea on the email. Lol. One of the reasons I never did was the level of knowledge from people here was amazing and I didn't feel I could add anything or share anything of value. I now know I was half right - Tina are catching all the big bass and I am over here mastering the art of catching 1 pounders on 50 dollar baits. So, HA! I have sold off most of my other hobbies and interests over the years and pretty much focus on fishing because it's something I truly enjoy and can pass on to others - especially my kids. I remember great times growing up fishing with family and I want my kids to have that. There are a lot of members here that go through things in life that are traumatic and they still come here to steal some time away and share information with us...that's truly commendable and I appreciate reading about all the cool stuff. No matter your interest in fishing there are topics and subforums to appeal to anyone. I especially like reading about old lures and techniques and seeing people getting new stuff! So I just want to say thanks to all the great people on this site - Yinz make it awesome! Tight lines everyone - Paul
  11. Happy Birthday to me - spent some of the gift cards I got from Cabela's. Also got some sandals and AFTCO shorts.
  12. Don't use it for chatterbaits. I recently posted a thread on this- my hookups went up but the amount of fish I lost went way up. Without any backbone you can't keep them pinned and they easily throw the single hook.
  13. Yeah, I have read the same things. For all my musky duties and Large swimbait duties I have the Lexa HD's. A 400 and 300. I mostly use my winn Lexas for smaller swimbaiting and smaller bucktails and stuff.
  14. Beltzville has some pigs too... I have seen two 8's caught recently and one that was probably close to DD's lost at the yak.
  15. Yeah, I have 2 of the blue handled winn models and they are fantastic. Overall I have 5 Lexas and they are used pretty often... I can't wait to grab a Tatula 300 though, those look awesome.
  16. I scoff when people recommend Tatsu Fluorocarbon and then immediately exclaim you will need to buy 15 dollar line conditioner for it...if I am spending more than 40 dollars on a 150 yd spool of fishing line it had better be perfect out of the box.
  17. There are some great threads here. My passion for night fishing started about 30 years ago with jitterbugs. I used that and some other top waters for about 10 years...then I started using spinnerbaits and kicked butt. And a few years later I learned they will hit just about anything at night. Some of the hardest strikes you will ever get are at night. And they will literally strike right next to the boat or shore - its honestly a lot of fun!!! As mentioned there are some GREAT articles here for night fishing.
  18. I am desperately trying to upsize my catches...and I do fish other waters but 99% of the bass I catch are less than 2 pounds. My PB last year was 8 lbs. This year we are sitting at 6 lbs. The thing is I only caught 4 fish last year over 3 lbs. This year only 2 so far.
  19. I see you didnt forget how to employ gif's! Welcome back
  20. I got a few things - fun thing about that Tomato Craw LVR Mini... I ordered that from Russia back in February and just received it today. I figured it was gone...however it wont be doing me.much good on this years spring bite. Lol Also, @Glenn you should look into putting together a Bass Resource hooded sun shirt and/or sun mask request to see if there is any interest. I am interested...
