  1. does she have a sister? ? New rod and reel day!
  2. If you memorize one ounce as 28 grams you can quickly do the math; 14gm is 1/2oz, 7gm is 1/4oz, 3.5 is 1/8, etc. 1oz=28.35gm 7/8=24.8 13/16=23.0 3/4oz 21.25 11/16=19.5 5/8=17.71 9/16=15.95 1/2=14.17 7/16=12.4 2/5=11.34 3/8=10.62 1/3=9.35 5/16=8.85 1/4=7.08 1/5=5.67 3/16=5.31 1/6=4.72 5/32=4.43 1/7=4.05 1/8=3.54 1/9=3.15 1/10=2.83 3/32=2.65 1/15=1.89 1/16=1.77 1/20=1.42 1/32 .886
  3. If you've never fished a soft jerk on a mojo rig you should try it. With a weight 12-15" up the line you can make that thing dance at any depth and speed with the appropriate weight, probably 1/8 or 3/16 would do the trick for 1-2' depth, or just throw a couple split shot on your line.
  4. Unwritten? For your information the following was inscribed in stone and revealed to Ned Kehde a millennia ago... THE NED COMMANDMENTS Thou shall have no other Lures before me. Thou shall not bear the likeness of a TuRD. Thou shall not take the name of ElaZtech in vain. Remember and keep TuRDsday Holy. Honor thy largemouth and smallmouth. Thou shall not powerfish. Thou shall not commit adultery, or use more than 1/10oz, same thing. Thou shall not steal, cuz thieves actually suck. Thou shall not bear false witness of thy fish size (yeah right!) Thou shall not covet your fishing buddy’s fancy, shiny, expensive new rod (ooh-la-la)
  5. Which power/action are you using? I recently got a kistler helium 1 power casting rod for some power bfs, love it. Now I’m thinking about trying one of their mh rods. Right now, my number one is my Daiwa Feider topwater/jerkbait rod with a daiwa alphas 800, all day comfort, and also because topwater.
  6. He didn’t specify where he is weighing the worm at. If he’s using inchy wacky (flickshake/ jig wacky whatever you wanna call it) then it’s definitely worth working it back to the boat through open water, it tends to “hover” better than the neko rig, a slow steady retrieve with small constant twitches has got me plenty of bites on it.
  7. I'm in complete agreement! That was actually JediAmoebas quote that I quoted in that comment.
  8. I'm in. Are groin kicks allowed?
  9. Sounds like you're too heavy on the jighead. Many who first ned go too heavy and think they have to "feel" the bait and keep contact with bottom when in fact mid-west finesse fishing is a "no feel" presentation that's mainly swimming and gliding with only occasional bottom contact, hence the 1/32 & 1/16 heads.
  10. In April the big bass bash $100k winning fish was caught on a ned rig. https://www.lakeexpo.com/boating/fishing_hunting/big-bass-bash-winner-braves-hailstorms-and-a-nearly-sunken-boat-to-win-100-000/article_d39fa050-dd65-11ed-9d19-d721d7affdf8.html
  11. I haven't put a lot of hours on it due to a new job and a cross country move in December. After some use though I would say only go mh on an MC benkei rod if you're using bigger than average lures, 5/8 - 7/8 seems to be it's sweet spot, it's el perfecto for walking baits around 3/4oz, the medium would be a better all-arounder I think if you use 3/8-1/2oz lures a lot. Edit to say you can cast 1/2 oz on it but it doesn't load deep, 3/8oz may be real tough to cast on the mh, in fact I don't recall trying it. I've since acquired the daiwa feider jerk/topwater rod I'm in love with and will probably list the benkei sale soon if anyone's interested. @softwateronly Do you have an older one or one of the revamped '23 models? Comparisons to an expride is intriguing, now you got me considering one. Also where'd you get it at?
  12. Sorry, but the bait monkey will require that to be re-submitted in spreadsheet form.
  13. Nothing beats topwater walk-the-dog lures for me. The Jack in the box/pop goes the weasel melody playing repeatedly in my head during retrieves may have something to do with it.
  14. It depends on which plastics you use. I use the 3/0 a lot, it’s the perfect size for the ri sweet beaver (pictured) and other creatures like the brush hog. For 5-6” finesse worms or stick worms I might go with the 2/0.
  15. If you don’t have the right sinkers you can still replicate the initial fall part of the free rig with bullet sinkers with a bobber stop a little ways up the line to give it a “headstart”, at that point though you’ve got yourself a petey rig, very similar to a mojo rig.
  16. Bps pitstop out of boredom, a little gambler action, zman weedless heads looked intriguing. $20 doesn’t go as far as it used to.
  17. Three half hitches and done. In the two years I’ve been using the FG I haven’t had one fail.
  18. Show 'em off! Thought it might be fun to see your old, odd, obscure, or rare lures. Below is a pair of wooden prop style baits given to me by a friend. A quick google of "nip-i-diddee" turns up some on ebay with most listed as made by luhr jensen even though they say "Gen. Crankbait Co." right on them, perhaps pre-takeover? If anyone knows please chime in. Unsure of the larger one as there's no writing or markings on it, but seems to be the same company judging by the paint job.
  19. The dobyns 795 immediately comes to mind for that weight range but it’s 7’9”, if your ocd can handle a different brand ? I highly suggest checking out the daiwa ttu731hrb-sb swimbait rod, it’s lure weight sweet spot is precisely 1-3 ounces and is 7’3” long.
  20. Another vote for the rage menace. Vertical rigging for that short and wide panfish profile.
  21. I use a 7ft st croix avid x med/fast for the minimax, it's got enough power for pitching small creatures/worms. I find it pretty versatile, makes a decent topwater rod too. It's discontinued but still available on st croix's retired page (microguide warning).
  22. This little dude and a few of his friends were kind enough to help to break in my first bfs setup, they fight like the devil for their size. I think I’m going to like this bfs thing.
  23. In every scientific test I've ever conducted the object that maintains the highest average speed has moved the furthest distance in a given amount of time. Hope this helps
  24. I run virtually an identical setup, mh/f 40lb braid to 12-15lb leader, set your drag appropriately for the rods power and you shouldn't have any issues. When I first got them I was surprised as the hook on them is beefier than what I expected or would consider finesse. I run 3.75 keitechs or the small rage menace trailers. For cover I'd probably rate my setup for moderate cover, maybe moderate-heavy if you go straight braid (all subjective to your part of the country of course).
