Why buzzbaits work
Noise. Buzzbaits, whopper plopper and Devils horse are all noisy surface baits and catch fish.

Canadian Wildfires and Air Quality
Was fishing in WV today in a high mountain lake and could almost taste the ashes, really bad. 10 is the lowest air quality rating here and we were at a 10.

Best preset baitcasting combo under 200$
I will also suggest the Shimano SLX, best $100 casting reel I've owned.

Stroking a Jig
I throw jigs exclusively during the prespawn in cold water which account for my best fish each and every year. Never throw them after the spawn probably due to low fishing IQ. Much prefer a slow drag, bouncing off stuff. You mentioned Shakyhead, yes that's what I go to after the spawn for crawfish immitation.

Mono vs fluoro
Haven't used mono in over 20 years, maybe longer. Straight braid and braid to flouro leader is all I throw. Knot strength and sensitivity favor braid. Imo That said, lines have come a long ways since the days of Stren.

Chrome Color For Top Water ?
I throw the cotton Cordell boy howdy, chrome with a black back. And yes, the water I fish is gin clear. I also do well with whopper poppers and buzzbaits for top water.

Fishing Line
If the top guide is fine, just respool new line. My fishing partner simply had a bad spool of braid, believe it was fire line and had the same issues you're having.

Fishing very stained water ?
Just got back from fishing tidal water for the first time which was challenging. The water was so stained it threw me off my game plan.......no finesse. Managed 1 largemouth bass on a June bug Senko and everything else was small Stripers and large shiners on Spinnerbaits. If you ever fish the lower James river be careful of the vast amount of shallow water during a falling tide. Had to kill the engine several times and trim the motor and navigate for hours with the trolling motor. What surprised me the most, saw only a handful of boats the 2 days that I fished.

What was your least favorite combo?
Quantum spinning! Just terrible.

I ate my pb .
Yep happens to all of us. Deep hook seems to happen to me every year on a Shaky head, not sure why. I don't keep many LM bass but the ones I do keep are a delicacy.

The sun and fishing
In the warmer months I fish with a tank top, shorts and crocks but always apply sunscreen before leaving the house. Also keep sunscreen on the boat. Make an appointment with the dermatologist each and every year and get checked out, so far so good. Prescription polarized sunglasses are an absolute must for this guy, couldn't fish without them.

Went to Cabela's to get my new reel spooled up, left with a scratch on the reel
Ahhh the 'ole man should have invested wisely and been long retired ?. Honestly though, cosmetic is just that, cosmetic and doesn't effect performance.......go fishing with it.

So what’s the verdict for stained water - do you want dark colors or bright colors?
Just got done fishing today in heavily stained water " Chickohomy" and did best on June bug Senko. BUT didn't have a great day ?

O rings
Look no further than VMC crossover rings, outstanding product and very durable. I use #6 for Senkos and #3 for finesse worms. Couple of weeks ago I actually caught 8 bass on a single Jackall 4.8. You'll need the pliers as well.

Fitness anyone?
I'm still mtnbiking at 62 and use a Total- trainer DLX-||| frequently. The best piece of home equipment I've ever purchased. Also use a Life Fitness elliptical. Keep it up ?

What’s a “good” day in your books?
Been fishing long enough to know that any day that I'm on the water is a good day. I really don't worry about what the average catch rate is on a given lake. Enjoy the moment.

BFS?
No. BFS can't skip as well as spinning and I like skipping.

How come all the new techniques coming out of Japan? They own the best cars so they want bass fishing as well......oh yeah forgot about Yamaha. ?

Frogg Toggs ?
Yes, have heavy duty rain gear but dedicated for deer hunting in colder weather. This will be the first time I'll be dealing with set in rain for 4 straight days of fishing but do have refuge in a dry room at the end of the day. Thankyou

Frogg Toggs ?
Getting ready for trip where the forecast is for rain everyday. I have Frogg Toggs in the boat and have only used them on a few occasions, light showers. Are these like other inexpensive rain gear that become soggy and eventually useless ? Or will they hold up for a couple of hours in steady rain for a few days ? Thankyou
