  1. Mepps black fury #3 dressed yellow dot has saved many a day
  2. Take one you like, drill and JB weld the bead towards the nose of the bait then clear epoxy over the top. Most will typically have a lower and upper chamber and the process isnt terribly difficult. The top chamber is usually your noise maker while the bottom chamber is the weight transfer system to aid in casting which makes a smaller amount of noise. Ive done a few deep divers in the 20ft range and the action doesn't seem to be impacted too much. Another option is changing up the sound. Some of the Spros have a coated rattle which gives it a different sound profile.
  3. For me the perfect line is/was YZH in smoke. Pretty difficult to find now. Standard YZH in clear is pretty good though! Try it on a Texas rig and youll be pleased.
  4. Lubricate that line, unless its braid in which case another knot may suit you better. For braid, I prefer the fish n fool
  5. ^ at best. At worst it will find its way out of round split rings and youll lose a lure
  6. So the backlash was removed and now it wont drop the lure? Can you manually pull line out?
  7. Hopefully the parents dont take the joy out of fishing by trying to turn him into their business ...
  8. Just for that hes gonna overtighten the screw on that little plastic cap and crack it ...
  9. Dont make your leader a heavier weight than your mainline ... unless for toothy critter purposes. Fish the Tatsu straight no leader on both reels.
  10. When casting from the bank at a pond with a maximum depth of 8ft, hes simply not going to get 2ft off the bottom with a dropshot unless hes casting 10ft in front of him.
  11. If you arent throwing suspending crankbaits, it might be worthwhile to give those a shot. Also a fluke style lure may entice them with a different profile.
  12. Of the two, which do you feel is better?
  13. Youll be fine, just make sure to use lighter wire hooks and keep them extra sharp. Cover will snap your line, fish shouldnt unless youre getting into heavier cover.
  14. Hes referring to the sleeve that rides inside the roller bearing. With most reels, the design will not allow you to install the AR bearing upside down/backwards. I still feel its likely the AR ratchet if that hasnt been checked.
  15. Youre just gonna have to grab some lengths of line and practice tying it yourself. Test the knots against each other and decide what works best for you.
  16. I had posted about this before and didnt quite get the answer i was looking for so i decided to test. My unscientific tests determined that pulling the tag end first and setting the final loop it tightens (the loop that the hook goes through) just above the hook eye then tightening the mainline and tag end together made for the strongest knot. Every time I tested, this method of tightening won out vs seating that loop in any other place.
  17. Difficult to find but the offset sam and lil richard by Sams Custom lures have been good producers http://www.snagaway.com/sams/samslures.html
  18. Minnow type floating lures are typically good but another approach is to cast a lipless crankbait into the action and let it sink. Often times there are fish below waiting for injured baitfish to sink and become an easy meal. What size lures have you been throwing? Also as stated above, make sure its bass in those schools of fish.
  19. Personal experience tells me ratio does affect the feedback you get from lures. I have a 6.3:1 and 5.4:1 fuego and when fished with the same lure on the same rod, the 5.4 definitely gives more feedback. When Ive tested to actually hit bottom though, the 6.3 gets there quicker.
  20. Not sure if this is sarcasm but honestly, few can say they have caught as many big fish as @WRB
  21. Been using a 40 size Bill Dance spinning reel for about 12 years now. Its by no means the greatest but means a lot since it was a gift from someone. I fish it often and with proper maintenance it has held up well. I think youll be happy those Quantums are decent little reels.
  22. Completely slipped my mind but on some baitcasters, the actual anti reverse ratchet is keyed so that if its installed upside down, the pinion will never engage. If your anti reverse ratchet is shaped like this. Try flipping it upside down.
  23. I would but apparently theres a coin shortage
  24. Youve found the fish which is 90% of the challenge whether using live bait or lures. I don't fish live bait, but I respect it. Theres definitely more to it than threading a worm and throwing it out there. Just like trolling, its complexity seems to be misunderstood. Now if youre just using live bait to catch dinks thats different. But if you have a guy using live bait consistently getting on 5+lb fish, theres more to what hes doing than the bait.
