Metanium DC’s Brakes Broken?
Yeah, but this is the equivalent of taking your car in for an oil change and being told the turbo isn't spooling up properly.

Metanium DC’s Brakes Broken?
How would one know DC brakes were bad if a reel just went in for cleaning?

Fish-fighting fit?
Ive had pretty big weight swings the past 3 years. One came as a result of training for a half marathon and then full marathon. Felt great with the half marathon, not so great with full marathon training. Last year it was the result of weight training. Eating anything in sight and lifting HEAVY (for me at least). When I got up to actual heavy weights, fishing was difficult. Oddly, it wasn't the big muscles but the stabilizers. I think everything in moderation is key

Metanium DC’s Brakes Broken?
I don't have experience with DC reels but I fail to understand why/how one would even come to this conclusion. Maybe I'm alone in this but when I service a reel, I don't test casting. I may make sure the spool spins freely but I don't go out and bomb casts. I don't understand how someone can determine the DC isn't working without fully fishing the reel. It's also my understanding the DC system itself is self-contained/closed so there's no need to even open it.

Beginning Spinning Setup and Line
Combo sounds good. Braid to leader unless youre using ultralight line (4lb test or high end fluoro with 4lb ish diameter).

Let's Talk Crank Bait Rods...
Ive never really found rod weight to be a factor. The resistance of the crankbaits though ... thats another story

Bates Hundo
Appreciate you chiming in. I won't buy a Bates, but if you ever get into the business of manufacturing raw aluminum frames for Shimano/Daiwa, I'm all over it.

Fishmas 2023
Fishmas gift opened yesterday. Thanks @Boomstick! Can't wait to spool up the fluoro and give it a shot, since it will be my first non-crappy grade fluoro. Hooks and jig are great as well. Welcome. Figured it would be a good idea to gift something you may not have fished before. Hope they catch you tons of fish.

Bates Hundo
Back to the Bates. I don't even have high end reels but I think I'm at a point where the only improvement I still seek is casting related (control, distance). I'm perfectly content with the drag and smoothness I have now, even at the $200 price range. This Bates seems to have a generic brake system. And for that reason ... I'm out, sharks.

Yo-Zuri braid
I have one combo that I use exclusively for stitching (or trying to). That one is the only one that has Yo Zuri. I use it because its a stiff line. Does hold knots well though.

Shimano spinning reels - Which are "power" reels/which are "finesse" reels ?
Can't we just agree that we're all confused? Even these two reels that you posted as power and finesse are both labeled finesse by Shimano ...

Shimano spinning reels - Which are "power" reels/which are "finesse" reels ?
Agree with some of the above but we've strayed from the OPs examples. A Nasci and Miravel are not specialty reels like the ones referenced. They have the same drivetrain. Maybe the Miravel comes with lighter lube?

Its a spinning reel. The shape of the spool lip and spool diameter are going to determine casting distance. The Nasci and Miravel are basically the same, with the Miravel having a frame that is 1oz lighter. They both use the same parts and in fact the guts appear to be interchangeable. Miravel has a different drag (who knows if better). Tactical bassin runnin out of things to say and they have to hit that 10 min mark on videos. *Edit - after further thinking, the Daiwa BG is def a power reel if were defining power based on weight. That thing is heavy.
