  1. So I solved the problem of loose line. It was putting to much line to the front of the spool. I put a couple washers behind the spool and it leveled out the line and it seems tighter now
  2. I used mono then enough braid to make three to four long casts
  3. I don’t know the mm of the spool but it is a Shimano 4000 series. I was using a dropshot
  4. It’s the line pictured above. 20lb with avg diameter of .010. Is that to heavy for spinning?
  5. Ok how do you keep braid on a spinning reel tight? 10 casts and it’s all loose and coming off in a ball.
  6. Figures. Oh well I’ll play with it for now
  7. Big Game mono is my favorite line for 12lb up to 20lb. So I bought a spool for my first braid to try. $16 for 330yrds
  8. I haven’t heard anyone take about Berkley Big Game Braided line yet. I found 20 and 30lb at Walmart today. Is it any good? Any comments about it?
  9. I do also. Three of them using the Rad Sports lifts. Two of them are no problem but my Jackson Big Rig is a beast to hoist and I empty it out. I was thinking about hooking a Harbor Freight Electric Winch $60 to the pulley system to help out. I also put two 2” pvc pipes under the kayak to help support the hull
  10. They usually say the northend warms up the fastest due to angle of the sun but all our finger lakes southends are the shallowest sections.
  11. Southend of all the finger lakes seem to turn on 1st
  12. I’ll take a dozen Buddha
  13. Which FM model do you use? There’s lot to choose
  14. Would you say 8lb braid for dropshot is ok for straight braid? It’s not crystal clear water
  15. Not to sound like a total cheapskate but do you fill the reel with braid or only use like 50 yards with a mono backer?
  16. I have 1 of my extra spinning spools filled with braid from the 90’s. I have no clue of the brand or pound test. So what’s a good braid for spinning for say dropshot to get started with? thanks?
  17. Nose hooking but I’ll bet it’s my hookset. I’ve always been fishing jigs in weeds and you set hard to get them up n out of the weeds. I guess that after reading all this info on dropshot hooksets I’m doing it to hard. 7’ med light rod
  18. Tom i saw these two photos on FB and it explained how I’ve been feeling very well and you probably have the same feelings
  19. Hmm.... I’ll have to start doing this. If I can remember the next time I get out
  20. They will be half way to the boat then gone. Hook will be fine
  21. I’ve been using the dropshot and octopus hooks and losing fish. what size of those wide gap do you recommend?
  22. I’ve narrowed it down to these two choices of St Croix rods. 7’1” Med https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-STCROIXRODS.html?from=basres or their kayak model but I don’t know what makes it special for a kayak model as they both have the same handle length? 7’ Med https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-STCROIXRODS.html?from=basres
  23. I struggle with finesse fishing in the first place. I want to get better at DS. I saw a video on YT for Bubba Shot. Fits my style better. Look it up it might be for you also
  24. Well that was a disappointment! Went to BassPro while out on the road for work. I had a list of rods to check out and to buy one. They basically had nothing. A few cheap outfits, a few BP rods and a couple very off brand rods. Oh well - TW it is! Thanks everyone for your input. Your time and knowledge is very appreciated
  25. So sorry to hear. Watch out for depression setting in. It can slide in without you knowing it. Keep your head high and your kids close. They’ll give you strength when you need it. Please keep us updated on your progress.
