  1. They definitely backlash and you still have to thumb them but they do help in some situations. I use one for floppy lures like buzzbaits and some glide baits that don’t fly well.
  2. Does your scorpion make the typical dc sound when casting? Mine doesn’t make the sound like the curado dc . And yes make sure you set the cast control to open.
  3. A true do all jig is the trashmaster jig. Works as a swim jig or traditional jig.
  4. It will be interesting to see how the two new top tier models do and if they are worth the price ! I don’t care who makes the reels for Lews as long as it works and lasts a good amount of time ! Plus Lews typically has amazing customer service which is a huge bonus! I’ve used it twice and was amazed with them.. my only issue is the price and if they are worth it or not . I use mostly all Lews rods and all of my spinning setups are Lews as well but baitcaster reels I feel they fall short. I had several pro ti reels and they worked and never gave me any issue but I jumped on the shimano metanium band wagon and instantly bought more and sold all but one pro ti. They are in the same price range but Lews falls short over fit and finish along with ease of setup. Plus they are kinda clunky feeling . So now that I’ve ruffled some feathers, I’m simply saying I’m hoping these new ones will be up to par for their price. I might give one a try who knows! And yes I have some diawa reels as well as other shimano reels !
  5. Buy a new one, you broke it. We’ve all been there to some extent unfortunately. Hey atleast it wasn’t a expensive rod !
  6. Definitely not a bad idea to change out hooks! Strike king, cotton Cordell and many other popular but lower end lures come with pretty weak and dull hooks. They work yes but can be problematic.
  7. Dicks has the Lews carbon fire rods which are $70 but are quite sensitive and a good value for the price!! Definitely recommend them over dobyns fury etc type rods. A good rod is very important.
  8. I fish a very deep quarry and often use a buzzbait sun rise and sun set times with good success.
  9. Shimano, Lews and daiwa all have their place and time. Maybe a little bit brand loyal towards shimano for quality and casting distance. Spinning is all Lews high end reels and just what I’ve used for years and stick with.
  10. Always been a lew fan and prefer their rods to others but after owning several Lews pro ti reels I wasn’t a huge fan honestly. It’s clunky and not as smooth as the say the shimano metanium which is in the same price category nowadays. Sold all but one pro ti and switched to metaniums. I am curious how this new one stacks up but seeing it’s a rebadge doyo I don’t have high hopes! It does look good but at the price point I’ve seen it better be much better then the previous version to be worth it .
  11. The 150 mgl is a smaller profile, lighter, current model and throws lighter lures easier. I have three and couldn’t be happier with them. It’s not a picky reel to setup either.
  12. I use a jdm Catalina tw and have zero regrets
  13. X zone has motor oil color in their 11 inch blitz worm
  14. Lews mach 2 combo is in that price range and with better reviews …. The shimano slx combo is a good beginner combo too
  15. X zone Adrenaline craw jr is 3.5 inches
  16. Lews signature series has a chatterbait specific rod that works well, soft tip and strong back bone. Listed as a mh f
  17. What brand is the braid ? I ran into this with power pro and will never touch that brand again! New spool and snapped off two lures. Got to looking and there was several spots down the line where it was odd looking. Bad spool of line which I suppose can happen to any brand but I’ve switched to sufix 832 and j braid and never had a issue since but I also use the uni knot as well. Maybe re spool it with new braid if the guides are ok and go from there.
  18. Picked up a bunch of these at Walmart recently. They have them usually in the bargain bin . Change out the hooks and good to go
  19. Yo zuri or sexy dawg. Both easy to walk
  20. Been using the new bait fuel and think it might help but can’t say for sure. Tried in a pond back to back same lure etc and picked up a couple extra bites
  21. Lews mach 2 or mach crush combos would be a great choice.
  22. Yep makes life easier for you and the fish. I’ll do that for wacky rigs often because that’s the only time I’ve had fish inhale the whole bait then have to deal with trying to get it out safely.
  23. Straight braid or braid to leader for treble hook applications mostly is my preferred. A good quality braid is a must ! Only negative that bothers me is the line will twist around the rod tip sometimes.
  24. St croix mojo yak casting rod has a short handle and is designed for tight areas. Maybe a option….
  25. Metanium is a much more refined reel Over Lews … even their pro ti is good but I’ve chosen the metanium over them nowadays. Maybe get a jdm metanium and save some cash that way.
