I am going to small pond tomorrow as well, but I am throwing 8" swim baits. the pond you have is grassy? use lipless, also use crank bait to the depth that meet the top of grass, so if top of your grass is 4 feet deep, use the crank bait that going up to 4 feet. if you didn't get success on this two you can always go finesse. I tried to clean my Abu spinning once and I end up to collect all the parts and send it to them to fix it, LOL, since that time I really never clean any reels, only lube them up and keep them out of sand and water, if in any case I would send it to manufacturer for service. but in last two years I didn't find any issue with any of them.

Welcome to BFS fishing, I am warning you it is tricky and costly, But man I enjoy it. my suggestion to you is 2 power 8' edge rod with Aldebaran 30 or 31. note that I have 5 Casting BFS set up and I know what is the best you start with. it is totally different world, if you have chance to try it before get into it is best. I do BFS all the way, I mean casting trout magnet(1gr) , but with the set up I told you, you can do as low as 3 grams lures.

I am going to a lake at 5PM(we have curfew on 10PM to 6AM), ill stay overnight and in morning by 6AM some other guys will join and we going to rent boat and fish till 4PM, ill sleep few hours somewhere between I guess. LOL

Don’t do bottom fishing, crabs will get them all. First get some macros using Sabine rig, then attach your weight 4 to 6oz to the end of your braid 60lb to 100lb depends on your rod power, and cast that weight as far as possible, then attach your float rig to your line and send it in with half/full macro. This is the only way I catch sharks and sometimes sting rays. All other options are off. i am currently on trout fishing trip, I’ll be back Friday and send you the pictures of float rig, I got 11 foot shark using this technique, also land 38” as well. Don’t forget macro and some case sardines.

Ive try some of them from boat not bank, so after you get the right Rod and reel, you just go with cheaper ones from bank and expensive ones from boat. But friendly advice, try not to het more that huddleston and river2sea S waver 200 glides. the more you digg the more you spend money and at some point you'll be collecting them only without using them.

using leader for me not all about visibility(which I believe is a factor), It is also about little give or stretch by using mono or specific fluoro. about the knot, Honestly since I do FG knot for leader I never seen someone say it breaks at any point.
