  1. Seeing as its my Bday today and memorial day I probably should have a big old glass of bourbon. Just not sure I have room after 2 big plates of scalloped potatoes and ham and a piece of Butterfinger cake.
  2. Sounds like 2 boys that may need a butt whuppin. Amazing what a knuckle sandwich will do for an attitude problem.
  3. Its not idiocy its passion..we all do it!
  4. Any update on this? I've followed Bobby a long time...sure hope he's ok
  5. I went up to the Okoboji area this weekend to visit my parents and I never even wet a line. Got home today around 1 and was out fishing by 330 at my local spot. Windy and cloudy so only a few people fishing. I did a pitiful job of trying to fish clean...lost 3 fish caught 4 and had 1 other bite. 1 fish wrapped up in a tree and 1 hit my bait as I was lifting it out of the water so I didn't get a good hook set...not much you can do about those. Still 8 bites in 2 hours ant bad.
  6. I've been trying to figure out how I can incorporate fishing into my work. Of course working as a plant technician making ethanol for a biofuel company...I haven't found a way to make it work yet!
  7. Yeah that's a good idea...get in and out before people are even dealing with there hangovers. I'm choosing to go Sunday during the rain...that should keep them indoors.
  8. I'm heading out of town to visit my parents this weekend. They live up by a series of good fishing lakes that are connected called the Iowa great lakes...a place I've fished hundreds of times over the years. There is no chance I'm going this weekend for reasons listed above...I'd honestly just end up pis#$% off. When I get back Sunday tho the weather looks rainy and cruddy here so I will likely get out to my local with the hopes the rain will keep people in campers.
  9. So I'm a die hard and will go anytime but I've never been a fan of fishing during the holidays. Ramps are jammed, shore spots always have groups of people and there is always an abundance of pleasure boating, drinking, littering and just general stupidity and buffoonery. Anybody else feel this way? Maybe its just the crabby old man in me...a combo of hating people and a little get off my lawn!
  10. I've had this happen before a few times. Waited to long a few summers ago and tried to race home last minute. Driving ain't easy in 60mph winds and quarter size hail. Good thing I live a mile away.
  11. I didn't mean it that way..I was saying if you went for a pack of speed worms and spent $40 but forgot to get the worms that would be funny..I've done that before
  12. Only way that would be better is if you forgot the speed worms...been there
  13. Caught a dozen last week in 2 days in conditions like your describing on a black buzzbait. A chatterbait, spinner bait or lipless can all be productive in those conditions as well..but when they will hit top water that's what I throw...to much fun to put it down.
  14. Are these dinner or catch and release? Bullhead fishing for food is still kind of a big deal where I'm from
  15. Made my first Tackle Warehouse purchase in a little while. Not alot of fishing stuff this time mostly sun gear. Got an aftco and a gamakatsu sun mask...also got 2 pairs of the glacier glove Islamorada sun gloves. On the bait side I got a crock o gator 3\8ths black on black buzz bait and 4 packs of Gambler aces.
  16. Does night fishing count? If so then the earliest in the morning I've been out is 12am! My local pond is only about 1 mile from my door and the park is "closed" until 6am but they don't care so much as long as you don't push it. So that said I get up at 5am to get there around 530ish. As far as getting up early to drive somewhere I don't really ever do that. My parents live close to a set of lakes so when I go there I usually drive up the evening before and just get up and fish in the morning.
  17. Yeah true that. The rod was 5 or so years old and I've probably caught a few thousand bass on it so yeah it could be worse.
  18. I take an otc allergy pill daily and that helps but doesn't eliminate it. This year my allergies haven't been as bad as last year...not sure why...its not near as dry and dusty this year so far so maybe that's it. I recently had covid and experienced sinus infection symptoms...figured I just has an infection or an allergy flare up.
  19. I'm not a huge ice cream fan but something I've done the past few years is a scoop or two of Ben and Jerry's chunky monkey with a banana foster(minus the rum) on top. Its pretty bananas!
  20. So looking back thru old threads several people said they fish a centipede wacky. What size hook? Adding any weight?
  21. I have a back up rod that should work great for senkos and flukes so no big deal. I've been told before that I have an impressive hook set...maybe a little to hard. But being 6ft3 275lbs that's alot of beef to throw at a poor little old basses face. Plus this was a Gerald Swindle type set..straight slack Liner...and I put some pepper on it. Somethings gotta give...this time it was the pole....oh and the fish.
  22. Lets see here..maybe biggest and arguably best soft plastics company done?(maybe strike king is maybe not)...possible...not likely Zoom is my hands down favorite. I have other companies I like.big bite, the mentioned strike king (love the menace), Berkley etc. But if I had to choose 1 company I'd choose zoom...all day everyday...twice on Sunday.
  23. I caught 4 today...100% a micropterus salmoides (largemouth bass)
