This is something I did last year more because of the covid crowds kinda hogging my normal spots. It actually worked much better then anticipated. I agree...sometimes it just ain't meant to be

Don't do it man...don't go to the dark side! You know two spots within an hour that have PBs lurking in them just waiting for you. Catch a PB then start trying new spots!

I'm not entirely certain what the issue is with stretch...particularly when using big game as I indicated I use it..for treble hooked moving baits. I'd wager that if you put a lipless crank bait in your hand on a soft crank bait rod loaded with big game walked out 60 feet and let me sweep it would still hook your hand. Rods now days are so well built with power built into rods even when they have a soft tip. Also hooks are so sharp now...you even look at a gama or owner wrong and its gonna get ya. Those two things make up for alot. Getting a fish hooked on stretchy line on a forgiving rod is no longer much of an issue...after its hooked the rod and line give when needed to keep them locked up.

Big game is a weird line to me. Its like the bobber and night crawler equivalent for bass fishing. What I mean by this is it is the line that a ton of anglers lean on when they first start seriously bass fishing. Its perfect for that because its cheap, tough, readily available and fairly manageable. Then as we get more sophisticated we move on to bigger and better lines because there is no way it can be good because the price is to low. Then one day we realize what we want in a line for cranking...castabilty and abrasion resistance..so many come back to big game. I'm in no way saying its the best line in the world...but for price compared to performance its much better than people think...or at least want to admit. Also will ad that yes while it may not be the best option for bottom techniques I caught thousands of bass on it using a texas rigged worm before I realized it "wasn't good" for that.

Watch live during tournaments and you will see what guys are throwing. John Cox won a tournament last year on a veritas crank bait rod...that's a $99 rod. Jacob Wheeler won several things last year in his signature series duckett rods..$139. Of course the difference...especially in Jacobs case...is the implementation on $30000 worth of electronics. That's not a knock because he has an incredible skill level with it but that skill makes up for alot. I've always said that with gear there is s significant point of diminishing returns. A $200 rod is twice as nice as a $100 rod...but 400 is not 2 times nicer than 200...800 not 2 times nicer than 400. Often times that extra money is paying only for minimal weight loss. Also it is agreed upon by many that the $100 range today is much nicer than that range from 10 or even 5 years ago. Alot of companies competing for that range because that's what most people can or will afford so that competition leads to companies offering incredible gear at a modest investment.

I use copolymer mostly with a little braid here and there. Last year I used 10lb mono for small cranks and poppers and liked it more then i thought i would.Decided to pick up 15lb big game to use for square bills and lipless on a couple rods this year. Then I remembered that all I used was big game and stren mono back in the day often times on underpowered rods and had no issue hooking fish even on Texas rigs and frogs. Makes you wonder.

Your winter doesn't count...its the type of weather I have half of my open water season. For instance your average temp for January is 40..mine is 18. Coldest temp ever where you are is -32...last winter we had 4 days straight of -40 to -45 wind chill. Last but not least you average 6 inches of snow a year...we've had 3 snowfalls this year of that much...our average is 33 inches a year! Sorry for the rant...cabin fever kicking in.

This is not true. I went out with a buddy for 3 hours yesterday we caught probably 25 fish..brought home 8 yellow perch and 2 crappie for a fish fry. I do support the whiskey idea as long as you aren't driving.

Had a buddy in high school whose step dad had gone thru the windshield of his jeep as a young man. When we were seniors....25 years after the accident...his stepdad was brushing his hair and his scalp started bleeding. He reached up to see what the problem was and a piece of glass fell out into the sink .

I use clear or green big game...depends on what they have available when I need it. No other reason than that. I don't really believe in bass being line shy especially in water with any color at all. Also considering I use mono only for moving baits I think it makes even less of a difference.

What is a technique that looks and seems relatively easy but once you get into it there is much more to it? To me a few that come to mind are jigs and spinnerbaits. I think because of there versatility in almost all water temps and colors there are a tons of subtle tweaks and nuances that take years to learn and master. For instance I've been fishing jigs at least half of my times out the last 3 years and I'm just starting to really figure it out. Everybody says its just like fishing a texas rig but I feel like there is a little more to it.

So are the swing heads mostly a warm water tactic or do they work in cold water just as good? Looking for more ice out/ early prespawn options

I don't really fish the finesse worm opting for a Berkley bottom hopper and a roboworm instead. Now the trick worm I love...in fact I throw it weightless almost as much as a senko.

I wear steel toes for work...hikers for spring and fall...frog togg flops in summer. So how much am I willing to drop on sneakers? $7

Never thrown one and im considering getting some to try. Thinking maybe like a 5 inch with a 1/2oz jighead. What are some good brands? What are some good heads?

I also like the skinny cutter...had good luck with it. Btw we are from the same area...my parents live in Milford..I'm about 90 minutes away.

Ice fishing. Can get by fairly cheap if you want...get a hand auger, a spud bar, some ice jigs and a cheap combo. Probably get all that for $150..get out and catch some gills. That's what I do all winter...along with building jigs...reading and watching alot of instructional bass stuff plus old tournaments.

That paddle tail worm is cool...wish I could find something like that.
