  1. Yeah I realize Monday would have been the day...but I worked 14 hrs...left in the dark came home in the dark.
  2. Sunday was 95 here..the past 2 days we haven't got above 50 for a high so that's a serious change. Gonna go out later and see if it helped.
  3. While it is entirely possible the pond is mostly dunks if say it's impossible it's all dinks. Gotta be a few better fish in there. Throw a jig with a craw trailer...see what happens.
  4. I'm hoping this is true. Yesterday was 95 today was 59 tomorrow 50...getting out Wednesday and I'm hoping the cool down gets em going.
  5. This is one rod I'm considering. I love falcon rods...I have several of the old bucoo micro guide ones and they are great. I've got 2 trap casters which are 7ft medhvy modfast...how does the finesse jig rod compare for softness? I feel like the trapcasters are a little light for jigs
  6. I've actually been using my girlfriend's food scale..it is surprisingly accurate and the jigs in talking about have been very close. With a trailer they are right at 3/8ths or under. I know that the weight of a jig is just the head...but these jigs have small medium wire hooks and very sparse skirts so that adds very little weight. That rod suggestion is surprising to me...but I'll take it into consideration knowing the source. I've read of your jig prowess so I won't even pretend to know more than you! Thanks for the suggestion.
  7. I recently caught 1 one about 5 or 6lbs on a medium spinning rod throwing a twister. Was wading for walleyes and saugers. Talk about a fight.
  8. This is kinda the deal with my home pond. It never had tons of vegetation but had several decent weedbeds and lots of brush...floods ripped the grass and wood out several years ago and really made the fishing challenging.
  9. I will look into it...thanks Tom!
  10. I've heard that about toads...my problem is the times I've tried it even being careful to thread it on straight the bait didn't run right.
  11. God I wish 47 was winter water temp for me. My winter water temp? Cold under 20 inches of ice.
  12. Looking for a baitcasting rod specifically to fish finesse jigs. By finesse jigs im referring to mostly jigs with medium wire hooks in the 3/16 to 5/16 range. To be specific I've got some boss and siebert mini ball jigs, eakins jigs and some homemade bitsy bugs with a better hook that Bluebasser made for me. I'm currently using a veritas 7 ft medfast which does fine but im considering stepping into something designed for finesse jigs. Any suggestions?
  13. The bass up here are seen to be more tolerant of colder water therefore they don't react as quickly to water temp changes in fall. What I'm getting at is just because your water temp is higher than mine the fish are probably acting in much the same way. I have great success in fall on spinner bait all the way down into the mid to high 40s...for a lot of guys down south that temp is as cold as you get all winter and is strictly jerkbait and lipless temp. Seems like you grow em bigger but we grow em tougher. Just my opinions from what I've seen...not backed with science! I agree with this sentiment to a point but I think the jerkbait excells in cold water for two reasons: can hang in there face and like you said dying baitfish action. Lots more dying baitfish in winter cuz shad type species are not cold shock tolerant.
  14. It's almost here for me and I'm ready. Like clockwork we have labor day tomorrow followed by cool heck almost cold weather...should be good for keeping the swimmers, kayakers, fair weather folks away...just in time for the bass to move up shallow to crush a jig and spinnerbait. Every year I look forward to it...this year has been exceptionally bad for trash, rudeness and morons..so I'm extra excited. It is bittersweet for us up north because winter is coming next but at this point I don't care. I'm tired of picking up garbage and watching people yell and act like drunken idiots...whatever needs to happen to stop it I'm all for it.
  15. Far from an expert here but I've caught lots of bass on a jerkbait. A lot of guys will say that anytime is jerkbait time. My experience is it's way to early..water temps around me are low 70s and my jerkbait fishing is best from 50 down or in spring from ice out til 50. Your mileage may vary of course.
  16. No way to do it...just give yourself a bigger budget and get everything!
  17. I have a Sierra 702 that I use for ned rigs and grubs...it's a beautiful rod and I feel the action is rated right. I'd say it's a fast or maybe moderate fast as there is a lot of flex in the tip but it has a solid backbone. I've never used the 703 but I believe it would be perfect for wacky senko based off my experience with the model under it.
  18. I use a 3/8 all the time always just a skirt. I'm a black skirt guy spring and summer to replicate gills. Still am during low light periods and rainy days during fall but for the rest of the time in fall im a white skirt guy. Gotta match those shad!...I guess or whatever. I have a pond near me with no shad and white produces better there in fall...so may not always be a shad deal...maybe it has more to do with sun angle and or water color? Kinda like how red works well in spring everybody says it stands out in dirty spring water and it replicates a crawfish. My crawfish are almost always black or dark green with blue highlights on the claws. That's not even close to red. Something else going on there.
  19. It's luck of the draw at my job we work rotating 12s...3 days one week 4 the next. 1st week is Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday. 2nd week is Sunday Wednesday Thursday. Some years it works out and some you seem to hit all of them. It's not a big deal to work them since I don't have kids and the perks are nice. Plant manager usually gets us pies, sides and nice meat locker ribeyes to grill. Money wise we get double pay for the full 12 hours and 8 hours of pto in our bank. I always think if they wanna give me a vacation day plus $600 to eat ribeye and pie I'm game.
  20. Nope not at all. Or on sex, race, price of your boat or rods and reels...don't care what kind of car you drive or house you live in. They only care if you can present the right thing at the right time to them.
  21. When I start struggling with a weightless senko I'll often times switch to a weightless trick worm on a spinning rod..I've had that save several days for me the past few years.
  22. Guess I never gave any care or consideration to eye color. Honestly I think bait color matters some but it's not super important. I give far more attention to bait length, bill style and diving depth.
  23. And the other part to this is you may find them cheaper online maybe even in the colors you want...but your also gonna pay $6 to $8 shipping unless you buy 50 bucks worth.
  24. I use a 7ft medium heavy moderate fast for bladed jigs and spinnerbaits. Plus in my experience a spinning rod doesn't have the same power as it's counterpart in a casting model.

I ended up grilling the corn, some bacon and a couple jalapenos...chopped it all up mixed in some milk, butter and American cheese...pinch of salt, bunch of black pepper and a couple shakes of cayenne. Fantastic!
