  1. Day in day out nothing fools more 5lb and up bass than a jig...I'm convinced of that.

Looks great. I myself am gonna smoke some chicken thighs and corn on the cobb. Great minds think alike.
  3. I've heard the cavitrons are ok...if you decide to finally get a buzzbait you may wanna consider them?
  4. Digging the sweet gator shorts. 1700 bass? Jesus dude that's serious. Btw I've been watching your videos on youtube...it's criminal you don't have more views. Nicely filmed and edited...simple formula of just going fishing with no gimmicks or product placement...it's refreshing.
  5. So we all know that fall can be a great time to catch both numbers and quality of bass. Up here in northern Iowa it is my second favorite time of year besides prespawn. At what water temp do you think the bass really turn on and start feeding heavily? What temp do you feel signifies the end of the fall binge? I'm trying to put more science behind it this year so I can take full advantage of this time period.
  6. Huh...didn't even know they made other topwaters! ......just kidding. I use frog a lot in summer...poppers and walking baits also have a time and place for me. Buzzbait is hands down my favorite. It may be in my top 5 can only have these lures list.
  7. Senko weightless...5/16th finesse flip jig...3/8th spinnerbait
  8. Those are some fine looking baits...wish I had a couple in my spinner box.
  9. MN Fisher covered it pretty well. Myself I have probably 20 combos. But if I could have just 2 it would be exactly what you have...a medfast spinning and a medhvy fast casting. Can do almost everything with those 2.
  10. My local pond doesn't have any grass...just wood and rip rap. Because of this I use a jig a lot more often than a Texas rig...I just feel like it comes thru that type of cover better for me. When I do throw a Texas rig it's usually a ribbon or curl tail worm..rarely a creature of craw bait.
  11. Ha...yeah it for sure isn't a beauty contest. If it was then the Ned and a senko wouldn't be two of the most productive baits. Guess the fish don't care that they look like a cat turd.
  12. You may be right...my experience with them is limited.
  13. I've seen this on a few small lakes in my area. One was a heck of a fishery for years..one summer the lake has some kind of algae bloom or something and had a huge fish die off. It has come back through good management and stocking. The bluegill in this lake are the biggest I've seen consistently. The bass population has rebounded numbers wise but the size is still lacking. My home ponds \ small lake borders a river that dumps into the Missouri about 40 miles south. This year it is low because we have had little rain but the past several years we have had some horrendous flooding. This has moved brush, silted in areas and destroyed some shoreline cover. The largemouth have been tough to say the least. On top of that the river brought in a bunch of trash fish namely carp and gar. But it is not all doom and gloom! This year has been my best largemouth fishing in years for numbers of quality fish. Also I've caught several pike and white bass along with a few dozen smallies the past 2 years...these are welcome additions from the river.
  14. Kinda like the pre rap wiggle warts. I know they are special but I've seen them well for $100 bucks plus sometimes. For a bait that was probably $3 new. I mean yeah they are cool...but are they cooler then 20 new ones for the same price? Like you said about the teckels...if you could get your hands on a few ultra rare warts you could sell those and buy a fishing kayak.
  15. Never caught a spot...it's on my fishing to do list
  16. I wasn't saying trendy like they don't work or that they will go away or lose favor. I'm just commenting on how all of a sudden everybody in the world has to have them at the exact same time.
  17. I'm not shocked or even mad by people's stupidity anymore because it runs rampant..but people's laziness is what I'll never understand. I work with a few individuals who would rather burn too death if they caught fire because it's to much work to roll on the ground. I look at these people and wonder...How did you make it to 50 years old with that work ethic? Then I remember oh yeah we live in a country where we have lots of social programs. They are great for people who really need them...disabilities,medical issues, single parents etc...but they are also in place and available to anybody who wants to sit around like the world owes them something as long as they are willing to tick and moan enough. Disgusting.
  18. Hard to tell with the angle of the camera but from what I see id say all of 5...I'm thinking maybe pushing 6. It's a beauty for sure.
  19. Look dude your not fooling anybody you did that with either sandpaper or a lime zester...I know because I've bass fished 20 years and I've never had that problem! Just messin... doesn't happen to me often but when it does its a welcome problem. I had it back in May for a few days...caught about 50 one weekend with many over 3lbs ...tore me up. The worst I've had was a few springs ago I find bass stacked in a protected cove and proceeded to crush them for several hours almost every cast with my girlfriend on a jerkbait. These fish were all cookie cutter dinks...11 to 13 inches...but we caught them til we got bored and tired. I didn't count but I probably caught 125 and she caught 50 to 75. I unhooked them all because of the treble hook situation so my thumb looked like it had road rash when I was done.
  20. It's very hard to go wrong with sieberts stuff. I've used tons of his jigs, his spinnerbaits and his fogy (bladed jig)...been very happy with all of it. I will add that Bluebasser86 just made me some bitsy bug style jigs...much better hook wire tied skirt...and even though I haven't fished them yet I'm very impressed with the quality. Also the price was more than fair for what I got.
  21. This reminds me of a saying...a person is smart but people are stupid.
  22. In a way I agree the fad's are good...especially with all the new people following youtube instead of places like this here forum. The past couple years I've gone behind lots of people..namely younger college age guys...saying they aren't catching crap on chatterbaits or googan bandito bugs. I roll in when they walk away with a spinnerbait and a flipping jig...you know both old guy baits that don't work anymore...and proceed to give a free lesson. Straight up beat down. This has happened more than once.
  23. Let me preface this by saying I'm in no way shape or form insinuating that these baits don't work. So the newest on fire lure is the maxscent flat worm. Every tourney result I've read in the last several weeks has at least 7 or 8 guys touting this worm. Did all the dropshot baits guys used for years stop working simultaneously? This trendiness has always annoyed me in everything especially in fishing. It's like the new hot bait comes out and some how people think the bass know about it and it's the only bait they hit. Guess I just dont get it. The red craw jackhammer is another one I remember recently. I'm sure it works...all red baits do in spring and chatterbaits work period. But this color caught ? no pun and all of a sudden guys were paying $30, $40 even $50 in ebay for one. Did everybody think bass stopped eating red craw traps and squarebills this spring? Just doesn't compute with me.
  24. Depends on the technique. I really like medium light fast for ned and grubs. For light texas rigs, shaky heads and Slip shot rigs I like medium fast. I don't go heavier than that because that's baitcaster territory for me. If I had to choose if say medium fast...rather be overgunned than undergunned.
  25. This seems to be very common...almost all my buddies have had this with their dad at some point. I did from the age of 17 to about mid 20s...thought he was a jerk and a dumba#$. One day I woke up and realized I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about. Since then we have had a great relationship.
