  1. Anything with claws or legs will work fine, toads are built for the job, I get whatever on sale
  2. Wasn't completely blown away this year, some niches filled that needed filling but, no crazy innovation I saw in comparison to years past, let's hope the rest of the reveal is better.
  3. Disregarding baits like the megabass sleeper gill and other small bluegill swimbaits, swimbait bluegill are usually big (1-3+oz) and are used on swimbait rods to target bigger bass. Swimjigs are a smaller profile around and in cover, bluegill swimbaits are open water and occasionally near/in lighter cover. Berkley gilly is a unique new bait and falls into a small swimming bluegill swimbait category, they look more natural and put off less vibration, therefor may do better in clearer water. Most swimjigs are built around heavy heavy hooks, even many finesse swimjigs, where the Berkley gilly and other small bluegill swimbaits can be used on medium or medium heavy. True finesse swimjigs that don't have the thick wire hooks can be interexchangeable with the Berkley gilly.
  4. It changes the action of lures, you have less direct control and your bait won't do exactly as your tip does. It's like a jig vs a carolina rig, although not near that extreme. Both have their time and place, (but it's more important for lures that don't sit on the bottom for a long time.) winter fishing with a loop knot and twitching a jig every 30 seconds will have no impact, but stroking a jig or fishing a jig with hops reasonably quickly will notice a difference. Ajing fishing in Japan has jigheads that have 2-3 different line ties to create different actions and movements.
  5. I picked up 4x4 heads, good quality but tun slightly heavier than advertised
  6. It's a very nice forum indeed, expecially the gui and smoothness in comparison to many other clunky forums. There is always room for improvement of corse, and would change a few things here or there (making it easier to upload HD hief/jpg images, or change a few rules)but all in all its pretty Dang good. Again cannot stress enough, has the smoothest GUI and flow in comparison to many other forums out there.
  7. I don't use it really but the FG knot is known for being close to the best option with longer leaders across this forum, heavier braid is usually better to prevent digging and overrun and thinner diameter leaders flow through the guides as a knot better. size guides may also play a factor, micro guides are bad. Other knots listed above seem fine and can be easier to tie but not as small or strong as FG (I don't even use it because it's annoying to tie but is smaller and stronger for your problem). Spinning reels also run into this problem but its more tolerable because backlash does not occur due to the reel design so it is tolerable, plus spinning eyes are USUALLY larger. I cannot gaurentee this will solve your problem, and I am not going to be sugarcoating braid or the FG knot like others may do, but that means I'm also not a complete ideolog and will be offering a more objective point of view other than the sad but common "your doing it wrong because it works for me And it's easy to tie knots and mine never break"
  8. You have 3 options 1. Shorter leader outside of final eye 2. Switch lines altogether 3. Learn a smaller knot. This is completely normal with long leaders and bigger easier to tie knots, this is why I don't use braid with leaders.
  9. Because the fish took the other inch off
  10. The Russians still do, but u got 2 translate
  11. I'll have to take you up on that challenge, got some .004mm braid from Japan for 70$ and its disgusting on spinning and would argue it throws light plugs farther
  12. I swear it's identical, almost 300$ cheaper, has a better looking handle, and more aesthetically pleasing. I don't even bother with the U.S reel market anymore other than diawa+shimano. http://www.doyofishing.com/goods/view?no=475
  13. I'm not schilling out 500$ for a doyo reel, and I'm pretty sure this model looks identical to the kdm doyo reel for like 299, minus the silly handles
  14. Yup, and it's such an unfair assertion to say bfs casts further than spinning, jdm spinning line reels and tackle is still selling really well for a reason, and it's not a skill gap
  15. That's epic, you where around back then? What was the fishing culture like that long ago equiptment wise, would love to hear the full scoop!
  16. Yup, people that eat undercooked and raw foods don't even know they have tapeworms, roundworms, and other parasites in them, 10% of the U.S population has these parasites, I bet it's much higher when only including people eating raw or undercooked foods. It's mostly ignorance and not understanding ding the parasites and the risks, I cringe over the argument of worms being able to be picked out, but they ignore the fact that larva of these parasites is tiny and impossible to see with the naked eye and can reproduce in your body. This does not even account for harmful and deadly bacteria and viruses. Anyone that talks to a doctor will be warned about eating undercooked foods.
  17. Yeah, I got two from an older man that did alot of fishing but had no use for them, i hung them up on my wall in my room, it came with boxes manuals and a tool.
  18. Langley was founded in sandiego ca before being bought out by zebco
  19. Excellent info, I had a few saltwater low profiles+ conventionals but you are right the magnets rust sadly, and they seem to soak up salt in the internals much easier and need a deep cleaning more frequently than spinning. If I may ask, one of my reels has double shielded bearings for salt, do they assist in saltwater resistance in comparison to standard freshwater bearings?
  20. What is the difference between double and single shielded bearings, next question is why are reels like the diawa BG or penn fierce/slammer marketed toward saltwater when they don't seem to have any sealed system to keep salt out of the gears and internals. The only difference I read was that the bearings on these reels are either shielded or sealed, and have ant aluminum body
  21. I have a diawa Algonquin fly rod, retails for 50$ and is stunning... I have a Amazon reel called a croch, is also stunning for the price of 19.99 Finally my go to reel is a piscifun sword II and it's like 60 but is completely overkill for trout and bluegill, but it's comparable to many 200$ reels (P.S the fly fishing industry is scummy and overpriced all equiptment from rods and reels to flies and tackle, If you want to know where to buy cheaper stuff DM me, so i dont clog up the forum, don't buy from the standard fly fishing brand names unless you want to pay a premium. Also flies on ebay are dirt cheap and really good quality, I can give you a few people to buy from, final note, anything buggy will catch fish patterns have never mattered for me even in the most pressured creeks in the world, color shade matters more and you only need 3-4 different fly types I use scientific anglers wf line and it retails for like 24 or something, it's excellent line too. I use SF fishing backing and it's really good quality. They also have great quality tapered leaders
  22. Part of fishing, barbless hooks often don't help for guthooking for me because the fish is still bleeding pretty bad from tugging him to the boat with a hook in his gut. Best way to solve guthookimg is to not let the fish sit with the plastic in his mouth, this can be achieved through more sensitive equiptment or just accepting an occasional fatality
