Casting Reel
So I feel the gearing on shimanos and diawas are done better, which makes them start up with less friction, creating a smoother experience. When buying a baitcasting reel some things to think about 1. Does it specify it is brass geared? 2. Does it come with a roller bearing/clutch bearing (this is what creates instant anti reverse) 3. Are the bearings in the handle, or are they supporting the pinion gear and spool shaft, a excellent baitcaster can have 4 ball bearings and 1 clutch bearing, two supporting spool, one on spool plus the clutch bearing for antireverse, and finally one on the worm gear. 4. Newer 2020+ models have what is called dual/double supported pinion gear, this is a very nice feature as it prevents the reel gears from slipping under heavy pressure as often 5. Frame material. Modern graphites are excellent, aluminum are well... stronger carbon frames also exist, although companies do not list the carbon or graphite material used, not all are equal. 6. Spool weight. Anything in the 17-22 gram range is standard for a bass reel spool, lighter is usually better for lighter lures 7. Breaking magnetic vs centrifugal, both are excellent, both have their time and place. Depending on your budget you may not be able to check off all these boxes, most 100$ reels will check all of these boxes including the shimano slx, and diawa fuego. Also great 50$ reels avaliable, diawas cc80 and Shimano caius are excellent in this procepoint, bmaxs and lews 50$ are also fine

Casting Reel
I'm not going to go down the rabbit hole but 99% of haitcasters on the market are more than adequate and will be a pleasure to use. Personal opinion is shimano and diawas are built different.

Anyone ever skip a spinnerbait?
No personally, plus we barley have any cover at many of our man-made lakes so if I flipped a moving bait into cover I'd fish the entire lakes cover in like an hour and a half or two, going slow with a jig I can enjoy myself out on the lake all day.

Jig rod debate
Honestly depends on the type of jig hook you are fishing with. The standard arkie style flipping jig is hard to fish with a medium action rod as they use really thick wire hooks. When I first started throwing flipping arkie jigs I lost the first 8 fish due to this reason. The simple solution was to not fish flipping jigs with those heavy wire hooks. There is honestly no reason for the hook gauge to be that heavily on those jigs its stupid, heavier than a d**n tuna hook. But if you insist to use the overpowering nojack hooks that are overkill for bass, you will want to bump up to a medium heavy or heavy. P.S (if a cheap eagle claw Alberdeen ultra thin thin wire (.16mm diameter hook can pull a 4lb bass out of reeds on cheap 6lb zebco omniflex on a spinning setup (with light hook bend) you will be able to pull a 8lb bass with 12-15lb+standard wire jig hook out of a laydown or reeds with little problems, especially if on a boat.

Does Berkeley Big Game Mono work well on a baitcaster?
Better lines for the price, Berkley line has been dissapointing with weak spots sporadically randomly on the line right out of the pack on many lb tests and different monos they make. Some better options for the same or less price include Pline cxx or c20 Sunline super natural Izorline Maxima And I'd rather fish zebco omniflex over Berkley trashy quality lines, it's honestly embarrassing a pure fishing product has such poor quality control

Pflueger President Malfunction
Spinning reels are fussy when put back together at times, tightening the nut to tight or putting screws in to tight has caused me troubles in the past, if you have not taken it apart in a while the gear could have lost a tooth or two.

Braid to leader
^^^^ .012 diameter-.013 diameter Is my favorite, feel free to experiment to find what suits you best.

Final spincast question
Update: fished with the zebco micro 33 for roughly two hours, caught a few nice bass and lots of panfish, reel was comfortable and while no instant antireverse was experienced, the backplay in the handle was not terrible. The drag was sketchy especially on anything more than 2lb, but was not as bad as I thought, still nothing like felt drags. The reel was overall a pleasure to use, I may just switch from spinning reels to spincast, I really like the features and they where not as bad as I hear. Zebo bullet... here I come lol (edit) also casting distance was very good and equal to spinning, but as the line lay became uneven casts lost a few feet of distance, but was fixable but assisting the reel in line management and pick up

Final spincast question
Just got it in the mail today, played around with it in the backyard and I'm in love with it, I'm even thinking about selling some of my spinning setups and getting a bullet lol

Spincast question #2
Excellent information. I will make sure to be careful when I get my 33, I appreciate this heads up thankyou!
-
Final spincast question
Yeah I ordered the zebco33 micro getting it for ultralight, I was also looking at the bullet for a spinning reel replacement, so I don't have to flip the bail constantly for moving baits, I have 3 bfs reels and they are alright but do not find them enjoyable in the wind, and they where also quite expensive, even the zephyr at 75$.

Final spincast question
How does he like it? have you played around with it? is it comparable to the smooth drags of a shimano sahara or diawa regalis/regal /legal?
-
Final spincast question
I agree with everything you said, I was looking at the zebco bullets and omega, and their drags and gear ratios are supposedly much better but 100-130 is alot of money in comparison to a 50 dollar spinning reel with equal value. I wish there was a really really solid spincast that was in the 60 dollar range comparable to the specs and quality of a president or Sahara or legalis/regal/revros. I saw that and got me thinking too, I ordered a 33 up, am excited to try it. I still got the snoopy bobber from my toddler rod my dad got me
-
Final spincast question
True, if that where to be theoretically improved to be on par with a spinning reel, would you switch?
-
Final spincast question
Ah I see, understandable. I use baitcasting for heavier lures and think spincast falls into the finesse category, It's more of a "spinning" vs "spincast" . I don't have any objections to spinning reels and own tons of them, I just think that spincast reels may be practical and not just a beginners reel

Final spincast question
Thankyou for your reply, anything you that makes you prefer about the spinning reel over the spincast? Backreel mechanism or ergonomics? Thanks again for the input

Final spincast question
Okay thankyou all who have been commenting on me and providing vast wealth of information. I have decided to purchase a zebco 33 micro gold and got a rod to go with it, my question is... In a perfect world, If your favorite reel manufacturer made a high speed smooth 5-6 gear ratio spincast reel that had a super smooth drag, even line lay, crisp feeling and at the same price as a spinning reel, would you make the switch?
-
Spincast question #2
Excellent info, I just placed a order in for one, I'm really excited to try it out, I saw the zebco bullet as well and will 99% be ordering one If I like the ergonomics of spincast. I see this being a player even in the bass world as flipping a bail 1000 times can kind of be annoying, plus I think they look cool lol.

Spincast question #2
I was thinking about using 4-6lb coplymer and was looking into the zebco 33 micro, I was planning on using an old fiberglass pistol grip rod for this, species wise would be panfish and small bass and trout. I dont mind the slower gear ratio, I have never owned one except when I was super young and forget what they where like, so I wanted to try one again and see if I like it.
-
Spincast question #2
I have asked a lot of spincast questions already but I am genuinely attracted to purchasing one. One final question I have is after doing reading many people claim spincast reels have poor longevity in comparison to spinning. I would appreciate any input from experiences or more mechanically inclined people that understand what parts are more likely to fail in a spincast reel.

Busted rod tip (help)
awesome, I think ill order one up.

Busted rod tip (help)
Have a two piece and was casting it around in the backyard and after about two hours of casting around It just separated for no reason, and I was sure I put it on really tight too. second rod tip half went flying into the air and landed tip first onto the cement, falling onto the grass on its side. everything component wise looks completley fine except the eye tip took the absolute brunt of the fall and bent the eye out of place. Frustrated that this happened I tried bending it back and cracked the ceramic eye guide insert. now im asking if it is worth buying a new eye guide for a twenty dollar rod.... this is why I hate two pieces, even using wax ?

Spincast reel question
Awesome perfect answer, exactly what I was looking for

Spincast reel question
I love spinning reels for lighter lures and all, but I have not used a spincast reel in a very long time and was wondering if they really do "reduce" line twist. I have heard people claim this but it seems spin cast reels have a very similar mechanism of line retrieval in comparison to spinning. Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.
