  1. Hey ya'll, Yeah, I'm a fan of Nichols spinnerbaits. Have been for a while. Their 3/8oz frame is what I like the most. When get 1/2oz and above, the wire comes thicker and longer. I was just talking to Brooks over email about their 3/8oz frame, asking if it is the same regardless of blade combination. Come to find out, it is the same, and what's more, the wire used is a custom .035" Mustang wire, very high quality. The most successful spinnerbaits I've used have all been 3/8oz Nichols. Originally, I used a lot of their single colorados. But I put an indiana/willow hildebrandt blade combination on one of these frames and that spinnerbait has been beaten up this summer by bass and catfish alike. The Nichols 3/8oz frame is very very compact. For comparison, a humdinger frame I have is almost the exact same. Humdingers are great too. But, for me, there is no comparison to the 3/8oz Nichols. I want them in business as long as possible so try em out. Stanley's are great also but I was fooling myself when I said that they were all I thought that I would get in the future.
  2. Decades ago the plastic worm, the buzzbait, the spinnerbait, and all these other amazing lures were invented. Now we invent super salty plastic turds and the marketing behind them doesn’t even have to be that good.
  3. Photos from Father’s Day family pond fishing excursion. LrgmouthShad Sr. actually caught the most fish in the morning; I forgot to photo one. You can see him in his photo trying to invent a new fish hold. This past week MotherShad joined me kayak fishing. She caught several and been catching on quick! One bass you can see was a little camera shy and was desperate to flop away. Lastly, the following day I went fishing with The Shaky Head Wizard who I talked about in another report thread. I asked if he wanted his 5.29lb bass to be posted on here and he declined, so The Shaky Head Wizard remains anonymous. Our adventures are not over…. I’ve got plenty photos of smaller fish but don’t care to post them. Been a whole lotta learning for me and not a lot of big fish catching.
  4. Ditto. real sorry to hear @thediscochef
  5. Depends on the day The substance of my creation varies greatly unfortunately How much more detail would you like me to go in?
  6. $2 for a salted piece of ****? Heck I make my own version of this bait already.
  7. Bank fished today for an hour or so. One rod. Other times I will bring more, but never more than three. Just kinda depends. Today I knew I wanted to throw a curl tail worm with a stout rod. I never changed baits. 1 3lber and family caught some as well. Happy Father’s Day!
  8. I think people do this differently but for me, I select a spinnerbait that I think will work based on conditions and then I will ride or die with that spinnerbait until conditions change or until I decide to throw a different lure. I’ve tried spending time fiddling around with blade combinations while on the water and it has been unproductive for me. I pick one, and then I convince myself it is the best I could be throwing.
  9. Hey ya’ll, Wondering what you like to make up when you make your own keepers on jigs or hooks and such. Do you just superglue? Maybe wrap something around the hook? I’ve got some small jig heads that have no keeper and would like to add my own. Thank you for reading!
  10. Awesome! And good morning to ya! ?
  11. Scum frog is king. Im not really good at walking a frog so can’t help there but scum is the best. One of the few areas that I am kinda brand loyal
  12. I think you have a great view of this. Yeah, I definitely think he could’ve been picking out better spots to cast to. Another possible explanation is casting accuracy. There is no comparison there. I am getting better with a spinning rod but still really not all that good with it. He could actually make very precise flips with his spinning tackle and he showed me how he does it. Ill get better
  13. I knew you were gonna say that ?. I can understand! I had no idea what was happening! ? This guy’s favorite lure is also a spinnerbait, and he does not like it when I catch them on a spinner. One of my fish yesterday was on one, and our first trip together, he caught more fish than I did on a shaky, but I caught three of better size with a spinner. I have just tossed and tossed and tossed a spinnerbait from my time up in NY. It’s hard to stop throwing it, but I’ve gone whole trips now only throwing a shaky
  14. Cool idea. I made two changes to how I tie it. If it is a heavier lure, I rest it against something and then release the loop when I’ve grabbed the doubled end with my left pinky after feeding it through the loop. After this, I prefer to move that other loop towards the hook rather than move the hook through the loop. And then I move my fingers behind the eye before tightening so nothing catches beneath the eye. Tag end, then main line. Both slide down smoothly.
  15. I can now say with confidence… a month later…. That I have learned to tie the palomar with confidence. Strayed away from it for a while… tried the trilene and hated it…. Went back to improved clinch…. Finally said “no way, I’m learning this stupid palomar knot.” I can do it now. It’s funny, I confided in someone else my troubles tying the palomar and he asked if I tie my shoes or if I only strap them on, offering to teach me to tie my shoes as well ?. I do right. No crossing, no catching of the line under the the eye. We’re good.
  16. It sure was an eye opener for me, lol. I caught myself thinking at times “this guy is like a magician.” I tried to copy his technique, paying close attention to what he was doing, but couldn’t achieve the same success. Just amazing. I’ll figure the shaky head out better eventually. At least I have some experience to draw and remember from.
  17. Yeah, I love to tell people that look upset, “Hey, what are you doing? Just be happy!” The more upset they are, the more they need to hear it. Funny though, most people don’t seem to understand it. Doesn’t really seem to work. Hmm ?
  18. Hey ya’ll, Little story to share. Yesterday I went fishing on Badin with a guy that’s been bass fishing for a whole lot longer than I have, maybe 30+ years. This was our second trip together. The lure of choice on Badin, without question, recently, has been a shaky head. There is an awful lot of cover and shade to keep lots of fish, and nice ones, shallow where I am fishing, and a shaky head has seemed to be the best choice. So I’ve been trying to learn how to fish the shaky head through this guy’s method. Maybe my best trip so far using a shaky head, I caught six and lost a nice one. This guy, yesterday, caught maybe 20 and caught a 5.29lber, two others around 17”, and another 15.5”. At times yesterday we were both fishing a shaky head around the same areas, and he’d be crushing em, and I’d be struggling to get a bite. I caught two, all said. Same shaky head, same worm, slightly different colors (but I’m not attributing this guys greater success to that). I think it was just that this guy has been fishing a shaky head a whole lot longer than I have. I did try some other baits but I fished the shaky the majority of the time. It just bewildered me when he’d make a little cast to the end of a dock and immediately hook up with one, and Id do the same thing and wasn’t getting the bites. Anyways, just a little story. To me, at least, it seems like this guy was picking out better targets perhaps and knew how to fish it better than I did. What do you think? Was a really good day though. We had a great time. I hold no ill will towards someone who outfishes me and will encourage anyone who catches fish. I just try and learn.
  19. Dag nabbit Id thought of putting a ribbon tail on a wobble! Knew I should done it. Maybe after they quit biting finesse worms rigged other ways
  20. Not a problem, DM incoming ?
  21. I think this one could be a good deal. Bait monkey still trying to get me to throw a chatterbait. This is his way of getting me to try one. It’s big and fast. I think I will start throwing it in the fall time
  22. nice vid! I cruised through an area of thick standing timber recently (easier in a kayak of course) and noticed that most of the life was suspended around the timber. Most, actually, within a few feet of the surface and I saw a few blowups in the area. Contrasted with the rest of the lake where most life I was seeing was around 8-12ft with the thermocline in some areas at 15ft and down to 20ft. Really interesting to see what the fish do.
  23. 15lb big game to 12lb big game is what I went with since both are readily available for me. Maybe a 3ft leader and a 7’3” heavy. Should work good I think
  24. Oh my goodness ??. Sir, this is a Wendy’s
  25. Gosh that’s pretty Not a bad day fishing either!
