I learned me something here on this here BR: people like to use different stuff for the same same stuff. I once made a claim that a moderate fast was the “right” taper for spinnerbaits and that others were “wrong”, and, uh, yeah, not true. Got some people on here that like an extra fast for spinnerbaits. More power to em. Use whatever feels right and works right, but you gotta admit to yourself when you are not achieving the right results. Common theme with this sport. Thank you for your excuse. It’s acceptable

Your fishing game is gonna skyrocket using drag. Yeah, there’s a lotta misinformation out there and I had a period of time when I used 8lb Vanish fluorocarbon, thought that only an 8lb fish would break it, cranked my drag all the way down… Um… yeah. Take others’ recommendations and set to 1/3 or 1/2 line breaking strength, depending. You’ll get a feel for it over time. A while back I admitted to myself that line breakage is just about always angler failure and I am better off for it. Drag doesn’t just protect line. It introduces a little “give” when fighting a fish which can be valuable. It also helps protect against bending out hooks or breaking other pieces of equipment like your rod that are involved in this “system”.

Docks near me right now are best heat of the day, as high as the sun can get. Same for any other shade you can find. Fishing offshore tomorrow during cloudy conditions, I am expecting my best bite window to be mid-day when winds pick up.

I really like following the Latest Catch Pics Thread and other fishing reports. We talk a lot of stuff about fishing on here but the reports are just that…. Fishing. I like @Catt’s numerous KISS threads I like spinnerbait threads I like reading stuff about fishing offshore, still trying to get myself to do it more. I can think of a lot that I’ve really enjoyed reading!

Someone told me about a successful VA angler they knew who only fished black worms, black buzzbaits, black jigs… you get the picture. Usually only carried two or three rods. I’ve been thinking about that guy quite a bit. What a simple life that woulda been… oh well

These catfish are pushing their luck! I’m getting mighty close to bringing a stringer & cooler and cooking one up! Fun to catch. This one totally had me fooled. Rest of photos from pond fishing over the weekend. Two more over 4lbs. One 4.51 and another 4.78. Both of those were on the same day as the 6.19! Was lots of fun. I’ll be returning to big lake fishing.
