  1. Real good thread
  2. I’m on here enough that I do it fairly often actually. Or I’ll think about people on here.
  3. It is not the best handling line that I’ve used, but in my mind, for how I often like to fish, strength and abrasion resistance are numero uno importance. And big game is just tough as nails. It handles well enough for me but of course not perfectly.
  4. Thanks all. I will probably go this route. An exchange would probably be my preferred route. I love em too! This one just drives me nuts ☹️
  5. What is the advantage of using line that light for this? Not doubting, just curious.
  6. Some days, the weirdest thing I catch is a bass
  7. Today I was blessed with enough time to fish for however long I wanted. Woke up at 5, started fishing around 7 and continued until 4 in the afternoon with a couple breaks. It was just really nice being able to fish for a long time since I've been very busy recently. I went to a pond that I've had some good luck at in the past, but it can be "hot" or "cold" on any given day. Today I was expecting it to be hot, and I left with three topwaters rigged up. Get to the pond, start chucking around a buzzbait. Then a frog, then a lipless, then a spinnerbait, and then finally a worm which got me my first fish, and fairly quickly too. Started fishing dropoffs around the pond with a worm, and only got some nibbles from what I thought were bluegill. This continues for a while, and then after three hours of fishing, I've got one tiny fish to show. But all the while, I've been checking off boxes in my mind, trying to figure out where the fish are and what they want. Lily pads had started to emerge around the pond and a good many were green and healthy so of course I had tried running old faithful spinnerbait through them. No luck. Then I start thinking that if the fish were not biting worms on the dropoffs, usually on this pond, if they aren't on the dropoffs, they can be dirt shallow. I decided to try... a swim jig. I don't think I'd ever caught fish on a swim jig before today, but as soon as I got to throwing it around and winding it through lily pads, I started getting bit. It was just night and day. Wound up catching somewhere over 20 fish, I really don't know. I talked before on here about throwing a swim jig in lily pads, but this was the first time I tried it and, oh man, it just got bit like crazy. I fished it just like I do a spinnerbait around lily pads, except that I threw the swim jig even more fearlessly into the heart of lily pads, and I fished it a little faster. The crazy thing, is, even though I caught somewhere over 20, my landing ratio was actually really bad. There is something I need to figure out about how to better land fish when fishing like this because it was a mess. I probably lost two really nice size fish and pretty much wound up catching fish 2lbs and under. So I've got some work to do. But just a really fun day. The swim jig that pretty much caught all the fish was Siebert's Grass and Swim jig paired with a rage menace in summer craw color with the chartreuse belly facing downwards. Right around noon was the best bite window. Around that time I went on a flurry. I'll share six fish.
  8. Hoping to break the devils horse skunk tomorrow. Don't think it is one those deals that just works immediately for me. But I have a lot of confidence in the lure despite it not catching anything for me yet because, well, it looks cool in the water. I'm also willing to put forth more effort with it because it is a lure that has been around for forever and has a lot of history.
  9. Hey ya’ll I have an iRod 704C-H that is really a great rod, but it doesn’t seem to be comfortable with reels I use. I’ve tried a few, but the reel seat doesn’t seem to make it comfortable. I use one of these same reels on another rod I use, and that setup is pretty comfortable. It ain’t a problem with iRods, because two other rods I have are iRods, and both those are comfortable too. They all have different reel seats. The harolds lone star special with a Curado 150 is just blissful. But is it likely that with the 704C, I just haven’t found the right reel for it yet? Or would you guess that the reel seat itself is just uncomfortable? And if that is the case, what would you do with this rod? Thanks
  10. That is sick looking. The 6th sense divine swim is one of my favorite jigs I’ve used too.
  11. No fanning. I push the weedguard down towards the hook and measure where it reaches the barb. I trim at that point so the weedguard just barely reaches the barb, and then remove strands of the weedguard as I feel necessary depending on what equipment I am using and the cover I am fishing.
  12. Just awesome.
  13. Man all of y’all are some old farts. Just kidding ?
  14. What does Elton John have to do with spinnerbaits
  15. See the diversity in answers though? There is no magic bait for these fish. All the way from 4” senko to whopper ploppers Seriously fun topic to talk about though, sometimes I learn about some lures I really want to try based off these threads
  16. You’re gonna have to educate me on that.
  17. That’s really interesting. Mine was a bear, and the water was under 50 too. But I was using a medium spinning rod so that made it a little more fun. A lot of bulldogging and surging deep
  18. Yup I don't think I ever would have guessed that
  19. One of my favorite spinnerbaits I've used, but I'm biased of course - Nichols Pulsator single colorado 3/8oz in silver flash color. This fish sent me down the rabbit hole of fishing spinnerbaits.
  20. Hey ya'll, So I had about an hour or so to bank fish and I went with a 6" trout swimbait. First time ever throwing a larger swimbait. I had one bite it but did not commit to it. Now, in my mind, I envision that with a pretty big bait like that and with it being a softer swimbait and all (its a Savage Gear Pulse), I should let the fish take the swimbait for a second or two before I set the hook. But how do ya'll do it? At the slightest tick, are you swinging? Or do you let em have it for a second? I'm not even sure I would have hooked the fish if I swung immediately, though. Kind of felt like he nipped the tail. But he got me all excited because hey, a bite is a bite.
  21. Every dad in my vicinity just laughed
  22. Can pair some glass beads with painted brass weights from Top Brass for light t-rigging. The ol brass and glass.
