Dude, awesome. 4.5-5 is a great fish. Shallow water close to deep water. That’s not coming from me, it’s coming from the Shaky Head Wizard ?♂️

Buzzbait bite is my favorite bite, probably. Punching probably still my favorite technique and spinnerbaits my favorite lure (it’s confusing), but buzzbait bites so dang fun. That flush when they bite… man

Lure suggestion for a specific situation
Keeping with your request for a floating lure, a popper maybe Breaking that request and pending that the open holes are at least long enough to move a subsurface lure through a noticeable distance, I would use a swim jig probably. My hookup to land is good with those. Could be a good situation for a spinnerbait too, but I’d like to have a little more room than 18” @Pat Brown I just noticed your recommendations. I see we agree on the popper, but great, great recommendation on the floating worm. Saltless trick worm with only a swivel about 18” up from the worm on a spinning rod, twitch and slow sink, deadly

Longest casting baitcasting reel
Of my lowly reels, I think Curado MGL 150 and JDM Zillion are competing. Zillion might have a slight edge.

Taking Another Break
@Kirtley Howe I’ll still be hanging around BR @Darth-Baiter no golf for me but I’ll be playing more chess and doing a little fancier cooking. I got plenty of hobbies @TOXIC my plan is to take care of my joints in the gym after a very brief period of total rest.

Taking Another Break
@MN Fisher thanks. It ain’t bad, and I kinda planned on taking a break at some point already, but when I started noticing the stress, decided I would start early. I really wanted to finish up August but it is what it is.

Taking Another Break
Hey y’all, Going to take another break from fishing for a couple months maybe. At the one month mark, I may decide to fish again at a low frequency, something like one weeknight a week. I’ve started to notice some stress on my joints and I think I’m getting a little too wrapped up in fishing at the moment. Instead of waiting for things to get worse, just going to stop now. Hope to come back rejuvenated for the start of fall. I feel like Ive learned a lot, rapidly, about my local lake, and I feel fine taking a break

Underspins were a huge deal on a grass lake I used to fish in NY. I never used em but they along with jerkbaits were a favorite among people who fished the lake. Thanks

There is rock and that’s where the bigger fish was sitting. There a bit of a change in bottom composition where the bottom gets much harder on the side of a point and there’s a rock pile out there

Rig chatterbait, good to go until I encounter wood, which there is a lot of in this lake. Rig spinnerbait, and I don't give a darn what I encounter. If I rigged both, I've gotta worry about one more rod when it's dark out. Just my thoughts. I appreciate it though. @T-Billy actually who am I kidding. There’s more to it than that. I just have so much darned confidence in a spinnerbait, that, by golly, that’s what I’m going to use. Somebody else might catch em on a chatterbait but I’m okay with that.

Rod for crankbaits and spinnerbaits?
Really nice to hear man. I’m glad I could help you. For larger fish, I really like to use em in the winter and prespawn. The trouble is, there are a lot of other big fish baits you can use during that same time frame. I do think though that a spinnerbait is the most underrated lure in the winter. It is a mini A-rig. I don’t care if the water is below 50 degrees. I am still playing around with seeing if I can find something that works for larger fish at other times of the year. It’ll get bigguns regardless. But true lunkers? Still trying to figure it out. Night/thicker cover helps, I think

It gave me a thrill. I am pretty sure that the fish thought my bait was a really large crawdad. There were a few bites I got where it would be a tick, and then nothing. Then I’d reel and set hook and there’d be nothing there. I’m pretty sure that was smaller fish trying to disarm the “crawdad.” This larger fish did none of that. It violently attacked and then started running. But when it spit the bait and I got it back, my bait was tore at the hook. So I think the big fish attacked and then was holding the jig by the “pinchers.” But the way that fish ran, it did it with authority. Maybe not PB, but big fish

Okay lost two fish, had a few definitive bites. Skunked. I’m not entirely sure that I chalk this trip up as a loss though. One of the fish I lost on the jig, and I’m pretty sure that fish is bigger than any I’ve tango’d with on this lake. It actually started to run during the fight and kinda do its own thing. Felt really heavy. If it was a bass, I consider the trip a win. I know where that bass’s crib is at, lol. It was sitting on something that I had marked in deep water months ago. There were a ton of very large fish arches in the area just roaming, and plentiful bait

Exactly, how does a person catch really big bass?
Gotta fish where they live. Region of the country and location within the lake. I really do not believe there is anything else to it. Oh, and fish a lot. Perhaps the only hiccup with big bass is that many can be loners, or they may prefer to be in very specific places on lakes. This makes them difficult to locate. The other troublesome thing is that many seem to like to suspend for much of the year. Livescope is enabling anglers to better catch those suspended fish.

We’ll see. I am a structure fisherman, deep is not my comfort zone, but I plan on starting my search in 20-25ft. The lake just keeps dropping and getting hotter and hotter and clearer and clearer

Well heck all I know is that what I been doing ain’t working like I want it to. Last time out, caught one bass. So I’m going back to my comfort regions of the lake, going deeper, and going bigger

Oh my gosh really? I have been considering lipless for a while, but figured I would wait until fall. My lake is a grass lake, so lipless will most definitely be in my rotation at some point. Maybe I should rig one up. Hmmm.
