Never used spincast. My first baitcaster was an Ugly Stick GX2 and a Kastking Royale Legend reel. I used it for close to a year and caught some nice fish on it

Okay so this recommendation is going to be a bit… unique but this is what I use and I believe in it. Get a Lew’s Carbon Fire 7’3” Heavy from Dick’s SG and a Daiwa Tatula 200.

I recommend learning to roll cast quietly in lieu of pitching, given the kayak that you have.

Nice. Cool tip on extending life of senko. For myself, I like a small hook to give less for the bass to key in on, and also to slow the rate of fall. I can’t say why but for myself, I do the best with that little 3/0 hook. I will fish this on a spinning rod. I can’t say I’ve had a senko tear much on the cast All up to OP

For some reason, and I really don’t know why this is… I do better with a light weight on softer bottom. When I have hard bottom somewhere, I’m likely avoiding the soft stuff. If I don’t have a choice, as in it’s a silted pond, I will almost certainly be using lighter weights

Two finesse techniques that I think have a better propensity to produce bigger bites, and can also be altered to center around heavier gear, are the shaky head and the neko rig. Circle hooks on neko are small and you can use light line but they are also reasonably strong and are open-hook for good hookup ratio. You could put a big worm on a neko rig with lighter line and a small circle hook, and the setup would work

A wise man once told me *cough* Catt *cough* that when you can handle a rod prior to purchasing, it’s a good idea to do that. Can feel different reels on it too

Heavy fluoro or mono. Thick cover, sometimes working through both timber and thick hydrilla in one cast or pitch. I want the rod to be able to both pitch and cast well.

Sure, might be be reasonable for tournament fisherman but I don’t fish tournaments and many of us don’t Why do I need to set a self-prescribed rule that I need to get an arbitrary amount of fish before I start fishing a certain technique? Lol I probably couldn’t do tournaments. I’d be too hard-headed

Hey y’all, Looking for a rod for heavy Texas rigs/jigs. Mainly because I want to have two rods available for this, one with a heavy t-rig, and one with a jig. I want the rod to cast 3/8oz to 1oz well. I probably won’t purchase this rod for a couple months Looking at Falcon Expert Table Rock (is this a fast?) Daiwa Tatula 7’1 HF Dobyns Sierra Micro 7’ HF Kinda gives you an idea of my price range. Of course I could just double up on iRod 704Cs, but for some reason that didn’t seem wise to me. Open to suggestions
