  1. Contact Daiwa® direct and ask them to send you the owners manual for the reel you have.. Tight Lines!!!
  2. Believe it or not there is way to much torque and flexing going on to add any BONDO to the seat and expect it to hold. The seats are spin molded graphite. How did you break a chunk of the reel seat out anyway? If you dropped the whole system and the seat broke, I would be wondering/worrying about the reel that was mounted. Take/send the rod back and get an exchange. Tight Lines!!!!
  3. Your not going to have a new reel seat put on that would take taking all of the guides off, cutting the old seat off and re-sizing an new seat on, and, that is done from the front to match the taper of the blank. If that is a Quantum rod then I would contact Quantum fishing, and, see what all has to be done to get the rod replaced. DO NOT epoxy your reel to the seat you will be sorry sooner or later... Just the .02¢ from an old custom rod builder.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  4. Are you talking about doing an inlay in the end of the butt cap?
  5. Are you using braided line??? If you are it could be slipping on the spool.. Just a thought.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  6. DG Rod Works.....Just Google it...
  7. Gary Loomis is not making rods, his new company is designing and making rod blanks for the custom rod building industry now days.. For Gary's story go to his site/blog here, North Fork Composites Tight Lines!!!!
  8. Taking a look around yeah there are a few here that work reels. But only one in a position to actually talk about it here on the forum.... 8-)
  9. There are a lot of articles on the subjects, do a google search....... 8-)
  10. Hey Taylor, A lot of things have changed in the last 5 years.. If you have been doing your own reels that long then when you get the rotor off of this one read what it says on the one-way bearing.... "No Grease" meaning we now no longer lubricate the one-way on spinning reels that is the reason why it is letting go under pressure. You clean um but leave them dry or just an oil wet Q-tip swab on the pins.... Tight Lines!!
  11. If you have never worked a spinning reel I would advise not starting now. The one-way bearing pack behind the rotor, has gotten dirty and the old oil need to cleaned out and re-lubed properly. I would suggest that you look in the local yellow pages for a tackle shop with service or a site sponsor.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  12. Delaware Valley Tackle, If you have all of Shimano's schematics then you could find the right one.... If you are looking at a schematic for a 2005 Chronarch CH100B you will see that the part number (BNT3235) is the side plate shaft, and it does exist. HOIST-N-HAWGS, if you look at the frame were the side plate lock is located and turn the plate slightly you will see a very small set screw that takes a very small millimeter hex wrench to fit it. I have had to replace many broken shafts and I had to make my own wrench because I couldn't find any small enough..Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  13. If you really want the scoop on Gary Loomis.. I would suggest that you read everything on HIS site, and, don't worry about what hearsay you have picked up....... North Fork Composites Custom rod builders have been working with him for over a year now...... I have built 3 of his new blanks up for my own rods... Tight Lines All!!
  14. Kudo's I'm an X (smoker), 2 packs a day for 40+ yrs. Been an X now for 3 yrs. and just now starting to lose all the weight I put on in the first yr. That's the hard part, quitting with support (all of the different support systems) is easy and you can do it. Getting the weight off is the actual hard part... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  15. Fishing Reel Repair Tech (The Reel Mechanic) 25 years. Custom Rod Builder (DG Rod Works) 15 years.... Tight Lines All!!
  16. First off your search string is wrong.. It's Trondak U-40 Cork Sealer, not RU40. Any of the rod building supply outfits.. ie Cabela's, Mud Hole, Jann's Netcraft, etc... Tight Lines!!!
  17. Good For Mr. Clean....... But not a whole lot of people understand the use of denatured alcohol for cleaning grips. The reason I use it on all my custom rods, are when your cleaning with water and any kind of soap it is getting down deep into the cork, and, because you are not drying it with heat or direct sun (letting it sit until dry) it can mold underneath (I have seen it on grip repairs and mods).. If you use water and soap there is almost no way at all to rinse it from the grips so it doesn't stay in them. When using denatured alcohol it evaporates quickly and doesn't saturate the grips like water and soap will. It lifts grease and grim faster than hot water and scrubbing pads do. It doesn't have to dry before a sealer can be added... These are the main reasons DG Rod Works has used denatured alcohol to clean grips for 15 yrs now. Good Luck With Your Grips..... Tight Lines All!!
  18. Yup! Oil for bearings! Grease for drive gears! Special drag grease's for drag pads only! Tight Lines !!!
  19. Okay, so I have it reversed. My reason was based upon this passage from the Owner's Manual: Be sure to slide the brake weights inward on their pins before re-assembling your reel. Thanks for your assistance on that! Actually what they meant in that statement. Is to make sure that you move the brake weight (block) you have turned on (un-locked), move them sightly toward the spool shaft (do not lock them).. This will keep them from jamming when the side plate is re-installed, and, you won't damage any of the blocks... Tight Lines!!!
  20. For those that have fished one and say there is no advantage. I say that if you had bothered to fish the rod/s longer than once (for about an hour), and had actually caught a fish that could bend the rod, you would have felt and seen the advantages first hand. But most all anglers that have tried a spiral/revolver style wrapped rod haven't giving them any kind of fair work out.... I fish for big 4lb spot's all the time with my spirals, and, can say that the rods are so stable in the fight (and Spots fight like SB's), that I fish them one handed on 6'6" rods using blades... Tight Lines All!!!
  21. Daiwa's red oil is almost the same a TG's red oil and the light viscosity is the main reason Daiwa® has changed their owners manual. The Daiwa® Space-Age Blue grease has been around for years (the 25 yrs I have been servicing Daiwa® reels). The new drag grease they came up with when Shimano® started releasing their Teflon drag pad grease for the 90's Curado's pads.. Tight Lines!!!!
  22. Guess the rep at St.Croix has never seen these pics on the rod building forums... They do groove...... Tight Lines All!!!
  23. Basically what I was saying is yes Recoils will groove....Use your best judgment when fishing with Recoils.....
  24. The just of it all! Tight Lines All!!!
  25. Then move on to another rod manufacturer.....
