  1. If it is a new E series Curado send it off to Shimano®. If it is one of the older Curado's send it to me and I'll make it better for sure....... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  2. I have the schematic's located here..... http://www.***/reel-shop/schematics/garcia-schematics.html Sounds like you have a sticking pad situation. But even at that the drags are not set by pulling line at the reel, they are properly set from the tip action of the rod. By anchoring the tag end of the main line to a scale and lifting the rod tip reading the scale as the drags perform starting as light as possible, with the final setting at 1/3 the lines rating..... Just my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  3. Like the others stated. Only I would deep clean and re-polish all free spool friction points. While that is being done, I would purchase a good reel cover for the reel as it makes those dusty trips on the ATV..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  4. Yeah what reel is it?? The line is slipping on the spool.... Easy to find out, hold the extreme edge of the spool so it cannot turn and pull the line, if it slips it needs backed. You can also remove the spool with the line on it hold the spool shaft and pull the tag end, if it slips then it needs backed. The drag spring washers have been compressed (from cranking the pads tight) or pads have oil on them...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  5. Check to see if the line is slipping on the spool. Have seen even light weight mono slip on the spools..... Also check to see if the spool is slipping excessively, you can do this by placing your thumb on the spool lightly feathering it to feel any slippage when hook setting... Also could be a softer tip on the rod. There are a lot of variable's not just a reels drags.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  6. When I build a Drop Shot rod needing a good keeper system I use the DROP-SHOT WEIGHT KEEPER SYSTEM... Check it out, doesn't even need to be wrapped come with a rod tape for quick application....... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!!!
  7. cwb60 Take a good look at the engagement slots on the base of your pinion gear, bet they are starting to round out.... JF is on target.......... Now if your not engaging the reel while the spool is turning, and, you have heavy drag setup (trying for direct drive). You are letting an older reel get to much reverse torque built up in the crank stack. The pinion yoke springs aren't that strong and the reel will try to disengage (pinion yoke lifts with pinion gear to dis-engage the spool). If this has happened even once there are usually more to come and it gets worse, then the engagement slots on the base of the pinion gear round out. Now one other thing comes to mind if your using braid, and trying for direct drive drags. You may have blown out the one-way bearing pack (AR). Need to allow for stretch or lack of.... Tight Lines!!!!
  8. Besides the above mentioned. I would do what most haven't or didn't do. Find a local tackle shop with a service tech and sit down to pick his brains and watch for a few reels. Or You could purchase one of the many how to video's and tool sets, turn on your DVD hope the disk will play and learn that way... Good place to start is here... Reel Maintenance Video. Tight Lines All!!! 8-)

  18. roadwarrior, I am right handed...... My rod moves my fish not the reel hence it is in my right hand, as I pump my rod moving the fish or even setting the hook. Once I have fish on I take up lose limp line with my BC reel which I crank with my left hand (reel only pays out and retrieves the line). I don't by it. "It is the reel that retrieves the line" Same exact thing goes for any BC gear I use.Just my .02¢ on "power hand fishing". Tight Lines All!!
  19. Agree with ejtaylor822 100%...... This is the best for adding HK's by none builders.... I use the Fuji EZ Keeper's on all of my rods that I don't wrap HK's to. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58449_100002007_100000000_100002000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT Tight Lines!!!
  20. You would think that's the case, but ironically just the opposite is true (for them). But we'll see if that changes now that they've spent the last year retraining all their rod builders. You might say that being as Shimano® owns the company.......
  21. That's the best route. Or see if you can buy a rod with a longer grip on it, some of the other models/makes have different grip configurations. comfort, balance, leverage or casting control/distance. thats it exactly. the cork isnt long enough to feel like i have a good grip while trying to make longer casts. im beginning to think the rod needs to find its way to the flea market. Why not contact St.Croix and maybe upgrade to a more suitable grip style rod. Sounds to me like the split grip (grips all the same) style rods don't fit your casting/grip. This is one of those instances were custom fitted is what custom is all about...
  22. Yup have a couple of them sitting on a shelf behind my cash register that I took off of the old metal rods. Like to call them (knuckle buster) because of NO anti reverse, when casted the handle spin in reverse (they still have the old black and gray dacron on them). Leave the hand in the wrong position and the knuckles get wrapped buy a backwards spinning handle....... Tight Lines!!!!
  23. Doesn't make sense, sell the rod and have one of the many builders build that kind of rod properly for you..... But if you must mess up a beautiful rod... If the area coming out of the reel seat is what your wanting to mod then you going to have to buy up enough cork rings to extend the length. Then you can either remove the fighting butt section and ream the cork to fit the blank in that area, and slide each epoxied cork ring into place and clamp then shape when cure. OR you can take each cork ring ream each to fit the blank dia in the area, cut each in half epoxy to blank clamp well, let cure and re-shape. Either way you will void any kind of warranty on the rod.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  24. If my Zebco history serves me.... Around the end of the WWII late 40's early 50's. Those old rods were actually the top end of tank antenna's, manufactured by Zebco® (Zero Bomb Company) for the fishing industry re-brands and house brands. The reel used for the rod would be older Shakespeare, Pflueger, Wonder Reels, True Temper BC Reels, etc. Just my old .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  25. The handles are the same, the drag star has been replaced... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
