How to know the action of a rod...
cataligh, There is a sticky posted in the top of this board that explains tip actions better than the article linked to. The majority of the production rods you see in store racks are fast tip action rods. If the rods carry a slower tip action, most not all but most, will be marked as such. magic eraser to clean cork handles
I don't understand. :-? This thread is/was about cleaning the cork grips not oiling them up. .. But the only two items I have used on cork (after cleaning) and would only put on cork, is Tru Oil (used on gun stocks) and U-40 Cork Sealer... Tight Lines All!!!

Cutting cork
Besides messing up the rods 5 yr. warranty. If you just have to cut, then remove all of the foregrip cork.. There will be less chance of you nicking the blank, and will be easier to clean up the old epoxy and finish. Just an old builders .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Question about removing spool on Mg 51
Oil on the spool shaft (especially were it will intersect with the pinion gear) in my testing has slowed the spools rotation, same as to much oil in the spool support bearings.... Tight Lines!!!

5'6" Medium Fast Cabelas XML Rod, What use?
Have used my 5'6" med fast rods (not Cabela's) for spinnerbaits, twitch topwater baits (chugbugs, Zulu's, etc) and buzzbaits. In a boat or shore bound.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Question about removing spool on Mg 51
Open the turn key dial drop the side plate and add a slight pressure to the spool to remove it. There is a spool shaft clip holder under the cast control cap that is holding the spool in place.. Again just add a little pressure to the spool and it will pop out... Don't put any oil on the spool shaft... Bearing & Shim only.......Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Where did Loomis go?
Back in the 90's GL blanks were all I would build on. In 2003 when the Shimano®/G-Loomis® game started, the first thing we noticed was a difference in the quality of the blanks offered to rod builders. That's when we decided to go exclusively with SC. Now when GL opens and produces the North Fork Composites blanks for builders you can bet I will have to check them out.. I just hope that my distributor decides to let her differences with GL end, and carry GL's new blanks... We will see, what we will see.... Tight Lines!!!

LTB casting rod needed for worms 'n stuff. Which one?
You already have the LTB SP rod, you will probably not want to hear what I say but.... Personally I would scale back and use the 3C Avids. You'll not only save money but you will get just as sensitive of a worm/plastics rod.. 3C70MF & 3C70MHF Just an old rod builders .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Reel Care
What reel is it. Use the oil that came with the reel. If none came with it use a quality reel oil (instead of the 40wt. out of the car trunk) Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

Water on fishing Reels?
But I'll bet you drag out the spinning reel don't ya. Well what's the dif using your spinning reel or your baitcasting reel. NONE!All reels get water in them just from the line being wet. A rain storm will just drain through. The only time you have to worry about water in the reel is when using a freshwater rated reel in saltwater. Take your reel/s fishing the next time it rains and catch your personal best. Service or have them serviced at least once a year, and they will out last you....... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!!

Your Favorite Gear Stinks
15 yr. old reels, 13 yr. old rods, the same ol mono brand (never used braid) I've been using for 30 yrs. Hooks from a supply I bought in the 90's. Chugbugs, Zulu', homemade spinner/buzz baits, plastics that I stocked up the old shop on in the 90's.... Tight Lines All!!

Gary Loomis is with TFO
It is my understanding when the company was sold it was getting stale, nothing new coming out (still nothing really new coming out), GL needed funds, and, Shimano® just happen to see a chance to buy out everyone's number one rod competitor lock stock and barrel (including the name). GL going to TFO is just designed for name recognition (much like Boyd D & E21)... Figure now everyone will be going ga ga over TFO rods designed by GL but without his name on them... reel maintenance
Is a good tutorial on removing bearings and cleaning them.... You don't make mention of the reel model.... But if your thinking of going deeper into the reel. Then you need the have the schematic for the reel in front of you (plus a knowledge of how to read the diagram), a good clean place to do the work, and last but not least a good mechanical aptitude and able to use small tools. The only tutorial left on-line that might be worth the time to watch on complete break downs, would be the one that is sold on the Lake Fork Tackle Repair site, and it only references Shimano® reels.. http://www.lakeforktacklerepair.com/tips.htm Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
