  1. I can do that, but what do you guys do with baits that don't have an o-ring holding the hook to the bait. Specifically crank baits and topwater baits. Do you just add an o-ring to the bait?
  2. What type of hook sharpener do you guys use? Anyone use the automatic sharpeners? How do you sharpen hooks while out on the boat?
  3. That sounds like you need to polish the inside of the pinion gear, and the surface of the spool shaft...I can tell you that is isn't a bearing problem, could be oxidized bearing shims (if they are metal).... But i would bet that it clears up with just a polishing of the free spooling friction points..... Tight Lines! How would I go about polishing the inside of the pinion gear? What would oxidized bearing shims look like? Also, how should I polish the spool shaft?
  4. The live oaks are in full force right now at my house. Everything is kind of yellowish green. That stuff even blows through my screened in porch.
  5. Any way to check if it is bent.
  6. Just a thought here. If you can tie the line to an unmovable object and do a hook set and not get the spool to react the way it does when you spin the crank hard and stop it (spool keeps spinning and ratcheting). Then I would say your making something from nothing. But if you do a hook set and the spool brakes lose then I would recommend you remove the pinion gear and check to see if you have the pinion yoke in upside down.. ..( don't laugh it can be done).... Just a thought............. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Thanks guys I will take a look but I am 99.9% sure the pinion yoke and pinion yoke springs are in there correct. I think the symptoms are what JFranco said, but I will try the hook set idea.
  7. Thank You JFranco. I appreciate the help. One last reel question. I have a browning Citori that I purchased used and have had problems with since I got. Right in the middle of hard cast I can feel the reel get rough for a split second. I have replaced the side plate bearing and the bearing inside the spool tension knob. Any ideas. The rough spot only very slightly affects the cast. I am not sure what else to replace or oil or grease on this reel.
  8. I just like to fix things and I am pretty good with my hands. So far I have only spent a total of about $15 on parts. I could just buy a new reel or send it in for repair but I like to fix things myself, it gives me a sense of accomplishment. I know there are people I could send it to but then I wouldn't that sense of accomplishment by doing it myself. I could also pay someone to mow my lawn or change my impeller on my outboard I have but doing it yourself just feels better.
  9. I have a bass pro extreme baitcast reel that is about 4 years old. I posted a few weeks ago about issues I was having with the reel. I purchased the parts that were recommended and the reel is still experiencing the same symptoms. I replaced the Main Gear, Pinion Gear, Pinion Yoke and Pinion Yoke springs. The symptoms are when I spin the handle hard and let it spin on it's own.If i put pressure on the handle it will make a fast clicking noise and the spool will continue to spin. I'm thinking the spool is either worn down or bent and not fully disengaging from the pinion gear. Does this sound right?
  10. I frequently fish out of a 1232 from bass pro. It is about 3 or 4 years old. Me and my buddy fish this boat together and we probably weigh a combined 450 lbs and have never had a problem. We also bring a battery and 46lbs thrust trolling motor along with a cooler and our two tackle bags and rods. We both stand up while fishing and neither of us have ever gone for a swim. You should fine with two people in the boat.
  11. If you search from google you can search all of craigslist. Just search this way fishing reel site:www.craigslist.org
  12. Check at a pool supply store or the pool section of your local walmart.
  13. x2 Clean your connectors and battery terminal.
  14. Just catch your own. I used to do this all time when I wasn't so busy. I would go out on Thursday and fill a One Gallon ziploc bag with Hog Feed and punch a bunch of holes in it and tie some line to the bag and then to something close by and I would sink the bag and give it some shakes to get all the feed soaked. Then throw out about 5 hand fulls of feed all around. Go home and come back in 24hrs throw a couple of hand fulls of feed and wait about 5 minutes and then proceed to throw your net and catch shiners. Toss the small ones back.
  15. What do you mean by worm burn, looks to me like he actually burned it, with fire.
  16. I always try to find oem parts for my laptop when I need them. They are available on ebay you just have to search for the oem ones.
  17. Thank you VERY much this is what I was looking for when I originally posted this topic. I will break it a part when I get the time. One more question. My reel is a 5.4:1 and would like to make it a 6.4:1 can I change out the main gear to do this?
  18. Thanks I appreciate the offer but I can almost buy another used one for around the same price as getting it cleaned and fixed. I always clean and lube my reels myself but haven't ever really had to repair anything.
  19. I have an 06 BPS Extreme Baitcast reel. Last TX it was having some trouble about every 30 casts or so. When casting it was making a grinding sound and I could see the handle turning backwards during the cast. What part is most likely going bad. I want to fix the reel. No other part of the reel is affected by this.
  20. 74 BMI is a joke anyway
  21. My buddy came over after and wanted to catch something on his new carbonlite/rick clunn combo and on the first hook set he snapped his carbonlite in two. He was ticked. We are going back down to BPS on the 26th. They better exchange it.
  22. I have the big Okeechobee Fats Tackle bag and I can't remember what size the storage boxes are? Are they the 3600 or 3700? Thanks.
