Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?
Chicago does put a scare in me mainly because i have out of state license plates and may be ripe for a smash and grab. I booked our motel room outside of chicago by 70 miles at a place off the interstate. The hotels, motels in chicago close to the embassy are asking an extra $25.00 to 50.00 and up just for parking.

Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?
Wife and i are going to Chicago next week driving from North Dakota to go to the philippine embassy to take care of some business. We are then heading to Green Bay Wisc to attend the Packers open to the public training camp. Wife told me she is going to pay for half of the fuel cost, what a sweetheart.

On thursday wife and I went to Baldhill dam in North Dakota, an easy 65 mile highway drive away. This was our very first time to see and fish this dam. It was a very entartaining day of fishing and a balancing act so as to not fall off of a rock or slip while it rained as we fished, the rocks were treacherous slippery. This rocky lined dam is the steepest and longest i have traversed to this day. I caught walleye, not big but eater size, smallmouth, good sized pike and lots of black bullheads which were black as night and wouldnt stop munching on the gulp alive 4 inch minnow on a jig head. Caught the sm on lipless crank chrome sided as with the walleye by casting out into the current and reeling in, lettin it fall a bit and jerking it whenever i felt it hit a rock. The pike were caught on a berkley grass pig 6 inch on a weighted spiral lock keel hook 3/8 oz. I had to cast as close to the d**n wing curve and back and the first cast the tail got bitten off so i just casted again and it got hit again and i brought her in. I got tired of casting so i rigged up a gulp minnow 4 inch on a jig head using a bobber to avoid snags and letting it float downstream with the current while bouncing off the rocks and all i caught were freaky looking black bullheads. At 10:30pm we headed back up the rocks to the car. I have pics i took of the area while takin a break but no fish pics as it was just to knarley to try to maneuver the rocks with a pole and a camera without falling.

Yes, 2nd time this year using a rip stop rapala with new oversized treble hooks. The hooks get a good bite in the meat by the tail fin and hold on. These river carp will follow your lure and they swat at it with their bodies just maybe to mess with it not eat it and then they get snagged usually when i jerk it unknownly that a carp is around. Some of these are huge 30 plus inches, scales as big as a quarter and when i am wading they get close and are kinda freaky. You must see them in your area on the river, lakes? They seem to run in packs just lazilly cruising especially in the ottertail river.

Friday wife and i went to a another dam in Fergus Falls Minn area. First time we fished it and i spent 8 hours in hip waders today walking the flooded shoreline, crawling over rocks and downed trees looking for eddies. We caught smallmouth and pike which i am just wore out with as they bit me off today 3 times and the wife twice. Snagged a huge carp in the tail meat area and fought him like a giant tuna and got him into shore. I couldnt pick him up as i was standing on big rocks and couldnt bend down. It was hot out and we got home at midnite. Today i never opened the door of the house to look outside and after stretching in the morning i just laid down all day sleeping on and off.

I'm going to work some exercise into my fishing.
Good times indeed, portaging a 16 foot aluminum fishing boat, 15hp outboard, tackle boxes, anchor. 2 woman, 2 men pushing and dragging it 10 yds across grassy, branchy forest ground to get to a cove.

How do you bend frog hooks properly?
I have bent all my frog hooks, some more than others. The first time i ever threw a frog was 2 years ago. I had 5 blowups in 25 minutes in the lilly pads and 0 fish. I was so estatic witnessing this but i was gettin punked to where i was settin the hook and the fish was fighting but shook off or didnt actually have a barb in him. The following week i read up on frogging and learned about bending out the hooks so i did and then went back a week later and caught my first frog fish. I have been a hook bender since then.

Tying leaders using 30# seaguar fluoro

Tying leaders using 30# seaguar fluoro
It is amazing what things look like under magnification. I took those pics with an old Cannon Power Shot, small fits in your hand camera. You are probably confusing lrgemouthshad. Please show us what your 30# seaguar blue label palomar knot looks like magnified that you yourself tied, not some pic of one stolen off the internet. Then we can compare and critique are knots equally.

Tying leaders using 30# seaguar fluoro
Hello gimruis, 2 years ago i was using 80# leader because of the pike but that was just to bulky so i switched to 30# blue label and liked it except it cost $22.00 for 25 yards. Then i went to abrasix 20# because of what i read about the abrasion characteristics and the cheaper price and thats held up on the lakes but on the river rocks it still gets shredded. I havnt broke off yet but do end up swapping out leaders during the day. I had a few feet of 30# remaining on a roll so i went back to using it just yesterday to make new leaders. I will probably go back to it 100% next year. I had 2 bite offs this year on abrasix, a wackey rig and a tube on a cheap jig.

E85
Your trucks ECM is going to relearn and make adjustments on 85. Ethanol fuel may give you more power, but it has a lot of extra quirks you need to consider. To start, ethanol fuels have about 33% less combustion power, which means you have to burn more fuel for the same amount of power. This isn’t a big concern for race only vehicles, but daily drivers need to be aware of this lack of fuel efficiency, even with E85 being slightly cheaper at the pump.

Tying leaders using 30# seaguar fluoro
Tying leaders today in fact many of them. To do so many at one time i wrap duct tape on 3 fingers to stop the line from cutting into my skin and also gives me grip when pulling tight. Im using 30# seaguar blue with a palomar knot. 30# seaguar blue is tough to cinch up so use alot of spit To get the 30# knot tight i use a pliers holding onto the tag end and use the snap end of a wire pike leader and put it into the clip or swivel end and hold tight onto the wire leader and pliers and pull. This is the end result using the palomar knot. my palomared leader complete
