@jhoffman agreed 100%. i just sold my motorcycle. it got to hairy at times. it was exhausting being at alert level orange all the time. but great parallel comparing motorcycles to small craft.

i did this yesterday. switch to a Senko. it was like Crickets...no sniffs. back to my creature and BAM-O...fish on! the jig bite was also nowhere to be found.

Muscle memory is coming back. my backhand casting accuracy is on fire!! forearm..still anyones guess.

2 hours MAX., hitting this lake tomorrow. it is so remote (i have 45 minutes on a dirt road) it is rare i see bass boats. some zealous boaters will drag a boat up the jeep trail, and they keep it maintained well..but what a dust-fest. the boats get so dirty. none of my kayak buddies are willing to subject their new trucks to the dust. losers! down side, if i flip over..the chances of a help is remote. i better be able to save my own butt.

i have the PP Levante. it throws a Magdraft fine. if feels like a heavy lob, but i think that is natural. it is just a heavy bait for me anyways. i think the PP has backbone to spare. i am gonna push the envelope and light-punch with it. i am NOT great at walking a frog with the PP. i just came into the frogs with a ligher rod and cant get the rhythm down..yet.

i wear a face buff most times. but constantly pulling it down, and up. eating, drinking. my face still gets a ton of sun. i still get red faced at the end of day. yesterday, i pulled the sunscreen out of my PFD and wiped my face down, during the weee-hours of the morning. (i forgot to reapply mid day) i use a Neutrogena stick my wife gave me. it looks like a stick of underarm deoderant. i am kinda shocked. i am not red at all. nobody in my office suspects i really didnt have a doctors appointement and went fishing instead. this particular product is a chemical block. not a physical block like Zinc products. it works well. i wear sun gloves from Simms. light is starting to leak thru my old gloves. maybe time for replacement.s. i never wear shorts. if i do, i wear swim tights underneath. (it is a goog look. glad i am not dating anymore) my friend had skin cancer slip past...be careful. what is your Sunscreen? i hope to work it into my routine and make it habitual.

Lake Berryessa. too much weekday traffic to go to the CA Delta. (coming home blows) Berryessa is my enigma. it is deep, big, daunting. i never been skunked that i remember, but i have had mostly slow dinkfest. wind forecast look awesome. i wanted to launch in the "narrows" but my friend wanted the wide open north end. he won. water was super clear. 10 feet visibilty easy. better in some areas. fish were far and few. i found 5 decent fish to hit my offerings, but my bud skunked. he in fact got a headache, developed a hard cough, and got body aches. i tossed a couple of tylenol in his direction. he was weak so he didnt cast far out and i think that is why he skunked. the fish saw him. i would blind fling way out there to the shore and i got five. five fish..no giants. we headed home when he started to fever. on the way out, i saw a hazard bouy. i investegated and saw two VW sized boulder in about 15 feet of water. top of boulder was may 6 feet down. i told my feverish friend to sling a worm in there. he said he was too tired. i said...you sure? i was already in midcast. is see the bait land on top of white boulder. i drag it over the edge..and TAP TAP TAP. best fish of the day. i made a mental note of that rock..in summer, it wlll kill. sucks it is far far away. kayak-far. Tomorrow will be my SECRET lake solo. no covid friends (he tested negative. probably the flu)

I didn’t skunk in super clear water today. I casted far and fished slow. Natural colors, w 12 lb flouro.

I got a good day in today.

there is this one spot we call "THE cove" at clearlake. my friends mention it and we all know where they are talking about. i found it, and crushed on the dropshot and jig. i called my buds over and one guy latches in quick. while he is fighting the fish, a pair of bass boats putter by. slow, searching, music blaring. i yelled, "stop fighting..hold your rod down" my bud laughs and buries his rod tip into the water...boat guy asks me if they are biting..."nope". but bud was reeling in with his rod down. we laughed.. the Cove.

we are considering a Saturday in early June. 8 hours each. all my local buds thinks my MN friend will hand me my butt. i think 3 longest fish, i have a chance. a tiny one. thoughts? i have the Delta and Clearlake to fish from...hell, i could go to Oroville. gah.. butt kicking, huh? he could fish downtown and hand it to me, i think.

eye and ear open at all times. i saw a guy in a fishing channel talking with airbuds in both ears. nope. i'm not dying wearing those things.

my DC is set on full training wheels (full electric brake). i run the tension knob on the looser side and my reel can send them flying. i can drain what seems like half the spool casting a 3/4 Kicknocker. i sometimes feel the brake isnt working right because it will lash at #3. back to 4 it goes.. i wont overthink it. mine is loaded with 40lb braid. maybe 30. i forget.

Fun fishing. i imagine in a tournament, you glue that rod and bait into your hands. say, you limit out on a Wacky Senko. do you grab a jig setup to "check it out"? or is it a numbers game? i change up often, but would have that Wacky on the deck and pick it up to remind me what a fish feels like.

@casts_by_flytruly made me feel better about myself. hahah i have yet to toss a rod out of my hands. yet. hahaah tomorrow, i am hitting the big lake. i better get my S together.

until bass invent sunglasses for themselves, on bright clear days, i punch the weed mats. i imagine them wanting to give their eyes a break from the bright light and hiding under cover. x2 in clear water. toss for cover. punch.

she is traveling with friends. my initial gut reaction was that i was gonna miss her dearly, and that has been true. my second gut reaction was: hmmm...fishing. lots of fishing. i am fishing a lot. taking some random mid week days off of work and going. i need weather to improve. my wife broke the golden rule of traveling with friends. she went in a group of 3. it is always 2 versus 1. hahah. they are on day six and one lady already turned kinda crazy. my wife and one other already discussed renting a AirBNB. she wants to come home early. i told her to buy a train ticket to London, or Amsterdam and break off solo for a week or so. i would. i too am breaking the same rule, but not exactly. there will be 3 of us going to Brazil. but we are fishing. we are dudes...we wont bicker. and my brother is one of the 3 so it better be us against the one other dude. haha. a fourth dude wussed out on us. we were a band of brothers of four. now three. traveling with friends is an artform. it aint for the weak of heart.

hahah..i was in a WebEx meeting. glad i was muted. i feel the same way you do. i just cut it all off and went with my Alberto. i'm over it. fishing is suppose to be relaxing. hahah but i think you and i are on the same page. the finish of the FG is just as girthy as my Alberto.
