  1. I don't own any bfs stuff but it would definitely fit as a light jerkbait reel for me, I dont like using spinning rods for jerks put light cranks in there too

Retrieve 1: pop-pop-pop-pause, then reel in slack, repeat Retrieve 2: long, slow lift of the rod tip, pause, reel down line to lower rod tip, repeat Retrieve 3: shake it, making sure I have constant feel of the bait, repeat slack, semi-slack, tight, whatever-slack, point is I want to be able to feel the bait, line watching confirms the strike
  3. I hate shredding braid on rocks so nope
  4. my trick to never lose the excitement is to purposefully not catch fish often, never have to worry about getting bored of catching fish this way I swear it's purposeful...
  5. i was gonna say... i thought power fishing meant big baits, big line, and big action, while finesse meant the opposite, i would agree that just cuz the bait is slow, doesn't mean it's finesse
  6. i used to love moving baits the most, but now i appreciate working a bottom bait and big hooksets Jigs of all kinds, Texas rigs, and Tokyo rigs (new favorite) are my go-to lures, low and slow next are crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits, basically all moving baits then, jerkbaits hard and soft, swimbaits, and topwater finesse will always be last on my preferences, but I can't deny it's fish-catching ability; dropshot, neko, wacky stickbaits are the best for me, these will only come out if I need a bite or the situation calls for it, I always bring at least one spinning rod
  7. I thought this post was about temperature, not fishing success, I was like "maybe its warmer in the water cuz of the sun??"
  8. my dad, he would always bring me with him to the community pond on the golf course since I was little, we fished 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits on MF spinning rods and 12# Big Game, some of my best memories were about us seeing who could catch the most fish, we once accumulated 60+ fish in a day RIP Dad
  9. I'm pretty sure there is a type of lure that has a swim jig head, blades on top, and is very popular... can't remember the name thou...?
  10. when I used to tie leaders for casting, it was for abrasion resistance, but now I've saved myself the hassle of extra knots and passing through line guides by going straight fluorocarbon or straight braid, only my spinning combos get a leader that's at least 15' so I never have to retie for awhile.
  11. great freaking rod, I feel it has a faster tip and more powerful action than most ratings I got a 7'2" MHF but its feels like an HXF, very sensitive and great for bottom contact
  12. ive heard that in ultra clear water (20+ feet) some anglers will go to a straight black, that told me everything I needed to know about colors
  13. I would try to punch it, generate a reaction strike through the vegetation
  14. pit boss is a classic bait that catches fish, numbers and quality. when comparing the bandito bug to the pit boss, it is so much softer and less durable, meaning it has great action but might last a couple fish per bait. it also has multiple appendages that also kick and create a different profile than the pit boss. imo, the bandito bug is an awesome bait that can catch fish without a doubt. with the vast amount of baits in the industry, I would say to just try them out and see what is the king for you
  15. that's another reason why I love Shimano reels, they still put those in the reel boxes, I've got a bunch of them
  16. swivel about 1-2 feet above the hook reduces my line twist tremendously
  17. this isn't an old bait but I like the name: Teckel Sprinker Frog
  18. Just to add one more: Mepps Aglia Kinky Beaver is a personal favorite of mine to tell non-anglers about
  19. hula popper wiggle wart
  20. Chatterbaits on the four outside wires, a 7 inch Magdraft in the center trailing wire (since everyone insists it should be different) JK, I became more successful when I treated it like a big spinnerbait, bounce it off stuff, vary retrieves, use flash
  21. I should also not mention the weightless tube, it does not catch fish
  22. "Im using 25 pound fluorocarbon, why am I gonna 'finesse' him around? UH UH, you in my house now, jack! Pencil sharpener, remember that!" - Gerald "G-Man" Swindle granted, this is from a video about jig fishing, but I think it can still apply. if I'm using a baitcaster, I should be able to overpower the fish every time, most times with drag maxed out. if I'm fishing that light, where drag is a concern, then it'll be a spinning reel.
  23. do not swim senkos or trick worms through cover, they do not cause reaction bites when ripping through, they aren't super weedless, and they do not catch fish.
  24. black and blue Rage Menace Grub or Z-craw paddletail is great also, I want a lot of action when night fishing
  25. sounds like "braid bite" to me, when the braid is dug into itself. use a thicker braid (my guess is you're using somewhere between 15 to 30 pound braid, use 40 to 50 instead) when spooling the braid, make sure that the line is wrapped as tight as possible on the spool. hold the line between your finger tips or have some other form of pressure so that there is no extra room for the braid to bite. lastly, sometimes it just happens ?. don't whip out the cast, that can cause it to happen, think smooth and fluid casting.
