  1. That buck probably died from the impact, just not right there. At work we have steel deer guards on our oil transports. I don't even brake for 'em in that thing. 40 tons at highway speed pops 'em like a grape.
  2. I have a shortage of reels. I have around 70 rods, but only around 50 reels. Heeere monkey, monkey , monkey!!! 😂
  3. @gim I hit a large buck doing 60 on my way home from deer hunting. $5500 damage to the truck, and that rascal jumped up and ran away. I was P'd that I didn't even get to eat him after he wrecked my truck. 😂
  4. Accuweather and Windy. AccuWeather sends me a notification anytime there's lightning within 10mi. Windy gives me more accurate wind estimates.
  5. Twas a busy boat today by muskie standards. I ended up going 6 for 7. No bigs but they were chasing. Best of the day was the 40" below. The others were 33-34-35-35.5 and 36. Four on a crank, and two, plus the lost fish on the crappie rig. I also raised another dozen or so. Most were 30 somethings, but I did have a mid 40's come in and go round the 8 a couple times. Fun day.
  6. Happy Father's Day to all!!! I'm enjoying the weekend with my 3yo great grandson.
  7. Horse walks into a bar, bartender asks, so... why the long face?
  8. Yeah, I'm easy to read, kinda like a comic book. 😂
  9. Getting burned out with pitching grass all summer is what got me started with muskie fishing outside of A-rig season. I haven't looked back. Those big toothy slimers are more challenging and more exciting. That's my 2c anyway.
  10. I sharpen my hooks. I prefer a flat #4 cut Swiss Pattern file.
  11. That's a dandy flathead @FishTax congrats!!! Awesome you caught it with the kids!!! I had a good trip today. I went 3 for 4 on the muskies. I've been doing a little trolling with those crappie rigs in open water. 1-1.5 mph seems to be the ticket. 36", 40", and 45.5" today, also lost a mid 40's. 40 and 45.5 pictured below. 40" 45.5" Both nice thick fish for this time of year.
  12. That's a whole lot better than I did yesterday. I took a 7hr double skunking. Zero muskie in the daylight, zero bass after dark.
  13. Me too, besides, sometimes ya gotta poke the bear just for the fun of hearing her roar. 😂
  14. You can get a T hat at billdanceoutdoors.com. Autographed if you want at no extra charge. That's where I got mine.
  15. True, but they're a small minority IME.
  16. Depends on the fisherman. I've caught more than 40 muskie on the crappie rig now. All but one were hooked in the corner of the mouth. Done right, it's no more dangerous for the fish than any lure, and better for them than most. 😉
  17. My brother in law had both replaced. Recovery was pretty quick and he's WAY better off than he was before surgery.
  18. I know I do. Different strokes for different folks though.
  19. It's getting more common. I mostly see muskie fisherman filming themselves around here.
  20. That's a pretty fish @Susky River Rat. Congrats!!! Tammy and I picked up a pair of hers and his 41 inchers today. Tammy would have had a 44'ish fish also, but her net man blew it. 🤦‍♂️ I forgot to add this pic when posting that 45 the other day. Unhooking her almost ended with a bunch of swearing. 😂 Unhooking fish from that crappie rig can be a pretty shady deal. They usually only have one hook in the corner of the mouth, and that other is hanging out there just waiting to bite me. I took one of those 4x strong VMC's through the knuckle last fall.
  21. Honk. I had a muskie break a 4x strong vmc treble yesterday while in the net. The fish got hung high, near the hoop, and it snapped one point off the hook while thrashing around. It was only a 38" fish. They can generate an amazing amount of torque. Those VMC's are hard to bend with a pair of pliers.
  22. Awesome to see you two lovebirds enjoy a day on the water. Congrats, and good to see Lynn feeling well enough to get out. Nice job getting that pike unwrapped from the anchor line.
  23. big 4#, Big 5#, BIG 6#, BIG!!! 7#
  24. I started today out right with this gorgeous 45" about two minutes after I put the first crappie down. She ate before I could even finish rigging the second rod. Then... 6hrs of NOTHING!!! 😂 Super tough. I had a few lookers, but no more bites. A couple of wardens stopped by to check my license at about 13:30. They said I was only the second muskie fisherman they'd talked to that caught one, and the lake was packed today. The other fish was also on a crappie. Super nice guys. We talked muskie fishing for awhile, and one of them took a pic of my crappie rig so he could make himself some like it. I spent a couple hours late in the morning pitching grass for LM, but it was a dinkfest, so I went back to musky fishing for the last few hours. Back to the grind tomorrow for 5 days.
