  1. A Medium action rod is pretty versatile IMO. I use one (6' M) for spinnerbaits. You could use it for worms, top water, cranks. I prefer fiberglass for treble hooks, but lately I've been using the Medium action graphite and kind of like it.
  2. I agree. It must be a glitch or something. Surely they aren't that stupid!

  4. I like lots of different styles. 80's Metal being my favorite! I even like country music (for the most part).

Well, I have 3 worm rods, but for larger rigs I use a 6'6" HF (Heavy / Fast) Rainshadow RX7 blank that I built on and a Calcutta 100 with Yo Zuri Hybrid 12# test. Works like a charm! 8-)
  6. Although I don't have the digital version... I do love Calcutta's. I use the 100's and I have one 50. Awesome reels! I think some of you guys need to man up and quit whining about a couple of ounces or so! ;D Seriously, some people want to use a feather for a reel. I think weight has a little to do with strength. You're looking at a solid metal reel vs plastic/graphite, ETC... I guess I'm just old fashioned (grew up using the old round Abu's) so don't attack me too hard, guys. :'( Look at this beauty!
  7. Well shoot! I'm always a day late and a dollar short! :-/

  9. I'm sure that the idea was to make it "look" like a baitcaster from the outside. I'm sure once taken apart... it's like pretty much any other spincast.
  10. That sounds about right. The insurance isn't very much. Anytime you go over 6' they stick it to you on the shipping! :-[
  11. Wow! Every rod I've ever shipped or had shipped (I build rods) has been in the $20 range for anything 6' and over. Who shipped a 7' rod for $9? I need to know so I can start using them!
  12. I think that is it. Doesn't that look exactly like a BC though? It doesn't resemble a spincast to me, IE the spool appears to run horiz like a BC not vert like a spinning and a spincaster do. I'm sure that the idea was to make it "look" like a baitcaster from the outside. I'm sure once taken apart... it's like pretty much any other spincast.
  13. Not sure, but a rod over 6' is like $20.
  14. No such thing as a closed face baitcaster. It would backlash like a %$ with no way to thumb the spool! It must have been some type of a spincast reel.
  15. The Premiers use Batson Forecast® hardaluminum-oxide guides. Their higher end rods have higher end Fuji guides. As for the Flooger... no comment!
  16. Good deal! I'm not a fan of the Okuma's. My buddy bought one and it was a total piece of junk! I don't know what model, but it was a $100+ reel just a couple years ago. Can't go wrong with the Shimano. The Abu would have been my 2nd choice.
  17. Yep, it's a Tennessee handle. Some guy building rods up in Tennessee built a rod and forgot to use a reel seat... next thing you know... it's a hit! They've been around a looooong time.

A lot of us do it seems. I have nothing but Calcutta's. Why, because I like them! I also like Abu's. I had a Morum that I used for years. My biggest complaint about it was the handle as the paddles would tend to pop off on a hook set every now and then... other than that... a darn good reel! I like Calcutta's and Morums because they are solid aluminum round reels and I hate low profile graphite bodied reels. I had one snap off one time at the base where it goes into the reel seat. I like Zoom worms. Mostly because they are soft, salted, and skinny! I build my won rods and have for 10+ years because I could never find exactly what I wanted. Even with building my own... I prefer the St Croix blanks because they are strong, sensitive, straight and fair priced IMO. Like the old saying goes... you say Shakespeare I say Shimano...
  19. A nice little 10.6 lb Bass caught last spring. I always liked the scenery in this pic.
  20. I used to just go out on the dock and use a very small hook and bread balls. It usually worked great! I'm sure the chum idea helps out a bunch, but they were always around the dock where I fished and I never really needed it.
  21. I thought that looked like a lead based paint! :-?
  22. Here's my Bass boat! Yeah, it's a 20' flats boat, but the decks are similar to a Bass boat and it gets the job done in fresh and salt water!
  23. All I can say about the RX7 blanks is that they are great for the price. I have a older one that was made in the U.S. and it's a very nice blank!
  24. It all depends on what guides, how many, what type of cork, reel seat, wraps, ETC... The thread is for wrapping the guides... is that what you're talking about? It could be another $100 or more depending on components (high dollar guides) and whether you build it or are having someone else build it for you.
