Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Yes I have contacted Loomis but I’m in doubt about getting it replaced, it’s a 1988/1989model. Not sure they’ll honor a near 40 year old replacement warranty, although it supposedly has a “Lifetime Warranty “. I currently have it packaged and ready to send to Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle to have it repaired. I was so devastated that I immediately ordered the Edge rod as a replacement, just in case it doesn’t get replaced. I’ll have the repaired one as a back up creek slinger if it doesn’t get sent to Loomis. So right now I’m waiting to hear back from Loomis……….

Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Got a Edge 40% coupon and after, unfortunately, breaking five inches off my IMX SJR 781-22 needed a replacement. The price was right but the wait might be four months! Hopefully it’s worth the wait.

Time to Make Changes
I’ve owned many boats from deep v’s, cruisers and sparkley bass boats, then it became too much. I went boatless for a few years before I decided on getting into kayak fishing. Went all in with an Autopilot 120 rigged to the max's, then it quickly became too much, and I sold it. However I do enjoy fishing in the kayak tournament events……. Now I’m in a 13’ Sportspal canoe with a 55# trolling motor. I started with way too much clutter in the canoe by trying to have everything possible within arms reach like my kayak and too many gear options. Just recently I decided, as you have to go back to minimal fishing, small tackle bag, 4 rods, portable depth finder, motor and of course the paddle. It’s become much more liberating. A little can be a lot, if you let it, or just enough.

Fishing PFD
Stohlquist are reasonably priced, comfortable and easy to wear all day. I wear the “fisherman” model and find the utility outstanding.

My little tricks to catch more bass. What are yours?
I just recently learned a new trick, too much gear is too much. Moving to my canoe I found in a recent tournament that bringing seven rigs, large tackle guide box with the double paddle, rain gear bag, cooler, net, depth finder, anchor and rope is,,,,,,,,,,,overloaded clutter. I was constantly moving something to get to something else, crossing lines and hooking rods with swinging baits and at times even myself. All the while trying to throw any and all setups instead of focusing on what the conditions were giving me. Needless to say, I didn’t fair well, managed a few fish but spent too much time trying to cover water and ended up distant from the leaders. My new trick is “less is more” ! I always pre-rig, always troll a bait while paddling and now will fish the conditions presented with selected rigs. All the while with less clutter while being more efficient with a minimum outfit.

Anyone fished out of one of these?
I like the foam padding option, less weight and more “squirm” room. However a backrest is nice. I used some 3M #77 spray adhesive on the foam in my canoe and it’s held up well. I don’t know what the boat is power rated for but a 35 I would think is a tad too much! 🫣 Good to see you out enjoying it!

canoeist, and kayakers. your rain gear?
Simms bibs and jacket. Dry,,,,,so far. Although I have Frogg Toggs motorcycle set and they have served me well in driving rain at 50-75 mph for hours. It would seem the fishing gear should work well too.

Kistler Chromium
I own a 100 on my 5’6” pistol grip bladed jig rod and a 200 on a Kistler KLX 4MH and really like both over the Lew’s speed spools. They are smooth and cast quite far. Excellent price right now! However, I unfortunately paid full price Was going to get another 200 but all they have is right handed,,,,which is totally wrong 😃

You underspooled. Now what?
I guess I’m the odd idiot out. I fill the whole spool with new line and use it until the casting distance suffers, then replace it. Now that being said, everything is filled with braid which last for years. I don’t use clear line as mono ruined that for me many, many years ago. Until this Spring. For the first time ever I’m switching to Yozuri T7 fluro and Sunline Shooter fluro on all of my reels (6) to see if I like it. I plan on filling the spool full and then when I replace the line I’ll go half spool with the new line, using the old as backer. Spinning will remain braid to leader as usual. I know, I know,,,wasteful but my reels only hold 130ish yards so using a 150 yard spool isn’t a big deal and it leaves leader line.

Update and pictures!- (Un)official Hoosiers Thread
Great event for kids! HoneyCreekTackle Anyone joined, or fishing any GRBY events? I’m going to fish the Southeast region events this year and interested to see if any Hoosiers are joining in. Only cost is the tournament themselves which has payback.- American Legacy backorder
I live in the same State and have never had an issue with delays or shipping but,,,,,,,,, I did have one instance where my refund for a rod took several weeks, and several emails and finally a call. After the call it was 24 hours when the refund showed up. Always wondered why it took so long and so many attempts, but I did receive it. I personally don’t believe they are dishonest, just operating on a shoe string and spread thin. I now either go in person and/or call first to confirm stock, delivery and payment details for future purchases which isn’t possible for most. However a simple phone call can solve a lot of issues prior to pushing “buy”. And always buy through PayPal, they will go to bat for you with disputes and get your money refunded.- Any GOOD Canoe seats?
Best I’ve found- Why not more canoeists?
Awesome deal, congrats! Enjoy the freedom.- Thinking of upgrading my kayak
I totally agree with @Koz Get a pedal kayak that you can add a motor to and have the best of both worlds- Thinking of upgrading my kayak
I think the decision would be between pedal and power. If content with loading into the truck I’d opt for the pedal power. If wanting something faster then a motorized kayak is the solution, but then you’re adding additional expense (motor, battery, trailer) and complexity. Personally, I found my OT Autopilot 120 to be a hassle, heavy and cumbersome. Spotlock was nice(ish) but not an end all do all option as any motor is not “hands free” at all. There’s the constant push button remote control which seemed to be in my hand constantly. Cruising a bank with the motor and using foot control to steer was simple but the constant simple adjustments always required the remote in hand. Spotlock was great, if you don’t mind a constant repositioning motor whirling around. In strong current or high wind it was a plus when fighting fish but otherwise, mehhhh. If going power a rheostatthrottle control would be a better option than a remote. The only true hands free propulsion is pedal power and instant reverse is a spotlock! All in all I wish I would have went with a pedal power (OT 106) for the overall expense savings and a better fit to the majority of my fishing. After selling the AP I went with a Sportspal canoe ($150 facecrook deal) which paddles easier than my kayak, faster, way more room with a larger carrying capacity and at 60# much lighter. I have recently added a 55# thrust trolling motor with LifePo4 battery for the longer runs and bigger waters which only adds 10 minutes to launching time but still not used all the time as it paddles very well. Anyhow, if wanting something bigger with power go big and get a trailer. If you like compact, fast and efficient go paddle, the less expensive route.- Best rod for finesse jigs - around 200
Yes, it was there yesterday. Good deals go quickly. - New Megalodon Blade Bait
