I’m a HUGE Shimano fan and all my reels are Shimano, both casting and spinning. The Kistler will be the first “off brand” I have owned. I have fished with a Diawa spinning reel and did not like it at all.

Thanks for the input. I got bit again by the monkey and went ahead and got the Kistler Series 1 Reel left hand in the 8:1. Can’t wait to give the outfit a go!

That’s what I was afraid of. No big deal as they are my river rigs, was just wanting to use them more often on the lakes. Looks like a MGL may be in my future. Thanks

Thread revival! So this thread evolved talking spool weights/sizes. I have a 2022 JDM Curado bfs SLX, actually three of them. I want to take one and increase the casting line capacity; larger spool. Does any of the model Curado spools fit a bfs reel, such as the MGL 70 fitting the SLX frame? Anyone know or have information or know how/where to find info?

I broke weak! Was wanting to replace my aged Silstar Lexus for a “do all” rod; crank baits, swim baits, spinner baits, ploppers and the like. Was going back to GLoomis as all of my main use rods are 15/20 year old originals but just didn’t like the feel of the new Loomis (Shimano) rods. Sooooooooo, KISTLER KLX was my choice. I thought about a new Gary Loomis signature rod but the customer service and build quality reviews were atrocious. I have never seen a company with such a high (5 star) rating as Kistler and the options are phenomenal. After one call I was sold on my choice. Now the wait begins for it to be built………………..

I just looked at a GLoomis IMX Pro 723 CBR. 3 power rating, 6’, 1/4 - 3/4 rating at $375. ish. Almost bought it but probably going to go with the same rod in 6’6” ( 783), same series but rated at 1/4 - 5/8. I guess the shorter rod has a bit more muscle due to length. Nice rods

I use the same line test on all my baitcasters ? 30# Power Pro I use the same test on all my spinning combos. 10# Power Pro Actually, I used to put a piece of tape on the bottom of the reel seat arm with the line weight. Had to take the reel off to see it but had to take it off anyway to change it out.

Like I said, options for everyone. Always do what is more confident.

There’s a video for every side of any topic nowadays! I’ll guarantee it’s not weak, at least the version I use. Last week I pulled up a tree stump when I hooked a fluke on it and trying to break the leader off, 15lb fluro tied to 20lb braid. It would not break! I’m talking a distance of 6ft with a direct straight pull. Had to go back and cut it off. It plain out works and easy to tie and extremely small . I will say I use 3 turns on the leader then eight wraps with the braid. Tie it with braid and fluor and see if you can break the knot before cutting your fingers off! I bet the hook knot will break before the uni knot will. THIS is the version I use, just a little different, so not the true FG knot. Look at the title ……IGFA tested…..just say’n

Never thought of the chocks. I have three or four pair in the garage. Nice idea.

I use a Daiwa BassX MLF at 6’3” on my kayak which works well. Not either you’re asking about but very affordable.

Funny, just last week I bought an aluminum kickstand off Amazon for $7.00! My first attempt putting the kayak on went great but fumbled trying to get it off the cart at the water. Had the kickstand facing forward and down!!! Lesson learned. It does help tremendously.

I think “beginner” perception is most always based on cost. So “spending less” for your first one doesn’t make it a beginner, it makes it a cheaper alternative. Basically I see it as spend less, get fewer options, less focused activity (fishing) and more of a general overall use kind of kayak, or learn how to do the basic stuff then have a better idea of what you want or need. I disagree. The additional cost spent outfitting a lesser value kayak will eventually equal or overtake a better, well outfitted one. Personally, I never owned a kayak and my first one is an Old Town AP120. Several reason I chose it as my first; quadruple bypass, near 70 years old, bad knees and knowing I would “move up” eventually. I have great physical strength but my endurance is a bit lacking now so I wanted options. I don’t regret the decision at all! That being said I did learn to use the paddle as mode of movement, positioning and control. The kayak is heavy to paddle but is doable with the proper method and paddle. Would I want to paddle all day or river fish with just the paddle, NO! But I have learned a bit about boat positioning and maneuvering so I can be effectively stealth if need be. If money isn’t an issue, buy what you want, or what you believe you’ll eventually move up too. Things change and after 2, 5, 6 even 10 years you may find a small boat a better option. Life’s to short for creeping up on your goals and ambitions. Tomorrow is not guaranteed………….

That above is ADARAC. I just bought one for my truck. Truly the only one I could find that offered quality and affordability. Goes on with my roll up tonneau cover and you can get different height uprights. It is mounted with a system using the truck stake pockets , no drilling or permanent attachments. Comes in powered coated black and natural silver. Nice selection of accessories too. I added the side rail tie downs and the bar anchor cleats. All aluminum, nice unit. ADARAC

Well, I started this while in the purchase process of my kayak. I have got it, rigged it and had it out a few times. I love it! It is stable, easy to use, easy to load and unload out of my truck. I will say one noted downfall is getting it back on the cart at the water, very awkward if on any kind of uneven slant. But still doable, I just have to get my method figured out. After owing about every style of fishing boat (Rangers, Lund, pontoon, flats and skiffs) this is something that can be thrown in the truck and hit the water when the feeling strikes, which is refreshing. All in all it’s been a great deal of fun and really looking forward to warmer, non rainy summer weather.

I haven’t updated my recent outfit so…..

My Helix 7 is on a YakAttack CellBlock so I can remove it easily for river fishing. The YakPower is for lights, charge plug accessories run thru the yak. I’m saving the last power plug on the YakPower to add the Minnkota puck link for the jog feature on my iPolit. Adds an extra battery but works out great.

My job(s) are now golf and fishing……….. …….I’m retired three years now and my goal is to wake up every morning with nothing to do, and go to bed with half of it done.
