  1. Throw’n a spinnerbait. Pretty darn accurate and successful with one, both in daylight and at night.
  2. A “metal detector “!,,,, nice cover ?
  3. I fish every dock I come across. Last time I banged a spinnerblade off a dock was more than 15 years ago while night fishing for smallies. I respect folks property but if it’s sticking out in the water, it’s fair game. Had a guy at the lake one time believe his property lines extended all the way to the center of the lake. Sorry, not!
  4. Any pictures of the set up and mounting?
  5. Apparently the thinking is I’m a young tri-athlete with interest in long haul fishing trips. Nope! I’m near 70 with a quadruple bypass behind me and looking for relaxation. My paddling consists of current drift correction in shallow rivers. I have no plans of serious paddling any rivers or lakes, just correcting a drift from point a to b. I don’t consider this kayak a big boat at 10’ 6” and 37” wide and 6’ 3” at 215 lbs think the 45 pound thrust trolling motor will take care of the rest. This is going to be a mini bass boat and have no delusions of 8 or 10 mile fishing trips but do see being on the water for six hours or so at a time slow cruising or drifting. I absolutely have no desire to paddle or pedal a boat anywhere I do know there are abundant options but a all around, ready rigged out the door powered kayak options are severely limited. As I’ve said, I understand my needs and find this to be a great fit for drift fishing rivers, large pond and small lake fishing. Apologies to @Koz for hijacking his thread, although I do appreciate the input.
  6. Thanks. As I said I evaluated and researched my needs throughly and find this to be an excellent choice. Everything is a compromise to some extent.
  7. I totally understand that ! Having owned about every type of fishing rig, from Rangers to V-hull’s reading your quest got me to thinking and into deeper research,,,,again. I decided to go down the kayak path but wanted power and portability. Something light weight with the ability to carry without a trailer, and the option to paddle skinny water. You inspired me to make the decision and “bite the bullet” and spend what was necessary upfront and get a total package. I feel my decision covers my goals at a reasonable all-in price. So I have ordered a new, (heavy sigh) Old Town Sportsman 106 Powered by Minn Kota in ember color. Hopefully this is the right decision and can enjoy it as a “mini bass boat” in many different water possibilities. Unfortunately, it won’t be delivered until early next Spring. Which is fine as now I can gear up with all the accessories. Thanks for sending me down the rabbit hole!
  8. Spectra Braid on everything. Soft as silk and limp as,,,,,,,,well you name it! A flro leader on a drop shot and maybe on crystal clear water dead stick rigs is about it for me.
  9. Bummer,,,,,, for everyone in Florida.
  10. Ok we are hundreds of miles inland and use the term “Brackish” to describe off colored water. Technically yes, as defined by @MN Fisher post but I was referencing “in genral”, sorry! River/stream water contains runoff which have soil, minerals and contaminants from the soil. Even rock and sand erosion contributes to the color. Brackish (off color) water doesn’t fall from the sky and inland there are no salty water conditions but still brackish colored water.
  11. Agree with @TnRiver46 Example A……. https://www.lundboats.com/build/boat-configurator.Z18ALS.html
  12. Lexan cutting board. Cut it to fit. Screw strips on underside to fit inside edge of the crate. Easy on, easy off and stays in place giving you a flat work surface. Or mount with a hinge. This from another thread
  13. Any edge with water flowing past it creating a back eddy dead pool (typically a point, creek, river or cove arm). Just like in a stream or smaller river, a great ambush point for bait moving by. Small non moving water lakes or ponds,,,,structure.
  14. “Brackish” water is typically due to bank soil and field runoff contributions. It could start at a major drainage stream, river arm or ditch a mile up or 100 miles up. “Reddish” color usually dictates a higher iron content but it is mostly a combination of soil ingredients flowing into the river. It’s not going to harm any of your equipment but a good spray with the hose afterwards is always a good idea, mainly to wash off the grit that can be carried in the water, kinda like salt water fishing. If fish can survive and thrive in it it’s not a big deal. I just wouldn’t leave a boat sitting in it tied up for days on end ?
  15. 1. Cat 2. Pike 3. Gar More than likely # 1. On a side note, I never put a expensive lure on anything but braid. Better chance of getting it back with the fish attached!
  16. I grew up pre-internet and magazines were the way to experience the world and from Boys Life on opened up avenues of learning from areas and subjects unobtainable as a youngster. Utube isn’t my thing, unless I need to learn how to change the hydraulic oil in my zero turn lawnmower or fix the garbage disposal. I am (was?) a lifetime member of BASS and North American Fishing Club and received magazines regularly. Then they just stopped coming. Tried contacting them both to no avail so my “lifetime” membership fee was for the lifetime of the companies discretion apparently. I enjoyed them but don’t really miss them. I prefer doing it as apposed to reading about it. But they were good entertainment in the winter months.
  17. Anything within 2 hours is my range, which gives me several lakes and river access. My go to is 15/20 minutes from the house to the parking area but is limited to a shortish wading area. Outside of that it’s 4 hours and that’s not a daily trip I want to make.
  18. I have two neighbors within a half mile, kinda know one young family with young kids. The other I never see but hear him target shooting once a month or so. My golf buddies don’t fish and my only fishing buddy moved to an adjoining state. When we fished we would just fish, no conversation for hours on end and we both enjoyed the quite. Having had about every kind of fishing boat in the past I now want a kayak to fish the river close to me, by myself which is fine.
  19. Since selling my boat I bank/wade fish. Recently have been seriously considering a Kayak. I know nothing about the operation or methods but have a nice small river really close I wade and would love to be able to fish more of it in a day.
  20. I agree with @FrnkNsteen, Honey Creek in south Central Indy is awesome and we are fortunate that there are many many small independent tackle shops throughout Indiana in any direction. By no way has the bigger box stores muscled them out.
  21. Wow, just wow! Wearing a PFD any time the boat is under power is just common “fishing” sense. I don’t wear one when using the trolling motor but always when using the big motor. The guy was lucky someone else was on the lake near him.
