Susky River Rat

I’ve seen so much questionable and dangerous stuff on the susky it would blow your mind.

How am I supposed to get this paper work done with entertaining comments like this.

I always have a speaker playing music if I’m in a spot all alone I’ll jam. If I’m around other boats I will have it turned down for me. Now if I’m in the middle of no where and you come up and fish next to me you’re going to hear my music I won’t turn it down.

@ol'crickety I do enjoy exploring. I try to have the fish it small mentality when exploring. It doesn’t always work though. I always have the devil on my shoulder saying go fish over there. Two of them when I’m not producing. I just keep telling myself I can’t catch fish if I don’t have a line in the water to try and help to win out. Fishing with a partner does help speed up the process of moving on if we aren’t getting anything doing different things.

No one would fish the susky if that was the case. 98 miles of it you cannot posses one. CPR only. Pound that area till they stop eating them come back later and get them for seconds.

I’d say fish them all! Each area might have their own time they turn on. They are each going to fish different as well. what made you eliminate other bodies? I don’t think any body should be eliminated before fishing it unless it’s to dangerous for you to be on. Don’t forget one persons “tough lake” is another’s “ honey hole”. I am looking to continue learning Harrisburg to Duncannon on the susky. This will take years to learn it as I can only go out on it above a certain water level or I’m just asking to not have a boat left. Then I need to learn at what water levels is what area good. It’s also pretty wide there for most the stretch I’d say around a mile. I’d say it’s also about 20 miles of river long. I also wouldn’t mind learning blue marsh or long level for when the river gets dangerously low to run a boat on. Again all places I’ve already been to I just want to learn. I’ve been to most bodies of water within an hour and a half of me. I will be going to little pine lake which I have never been to. It’s more of my wife, dog and I will just be unplugging for a weekend. The boat is just coming for the ride it’s not a serious fishing trip.

I have boiled stuff that I thought I was too stiff. I do think the fish perfect a floppy worm.

There is something very satisfying about this pic haha. The only real reason I do not like fishing in the rain is the carpet in my boat. Live learn then get a not carpeted boat haha.

So I’m just going to add some different perspective here. In the musky world everything is about IPT the tranx 500 HG is 43 ipt the tranx 500 PG IS 30 ipt. A gentlemen did a study of casting the same lure out on the same rod just switching the reels. He tried to keep everything identical except the gear ratios. He even went as far as putting a point on his line so he would start timing and have the exact same timed distance every cast. What he found out was between the PG and HG there was no huge different in how long it took him to reel in. The biggest thing he saw was the effort required. The HG was much harder to reel in as fast as he could then the PG because of the drag on the lure. What was figured out is high gear ratios/ high IPT are great for picking up slack line. As for as effort put in for straight retrieval of lures with drag the lower was much easier to use and did not sacrifice speed.

Honestly, if I were you I’d start at around 45 degrees. Unless your water only gets to that temp over the winter months then start at the first consistent warming of the water.

I think this thread should be dedicated to all the stuff I see on the susky. That def had to be a susky boat.

You can do anything you put your mind to! personally, if it can happen it will probably happen to me!

I try to fish the slack water first. I do keep 3/8 oz jig heads in two rods and a lighter jig head for slacker water. Sometimes as others have stayed that gentle drift down ticking bottom from time to time can be deadly too. It does depend on the day what can be effective.

Better you guys than me. I’ll stick to running 3-6” of water up on plane.

I enjoy the putting the pieces of the puzzle together and catching fish. Sure if it’s a nice day I will enjoy being out I get to see things like man that is cool. At the end of the day though I want to catch fish. If I didn’t catch fish on most of my days out I probably would not do it anymore. The accomplishment is what I like. I also wouldn’t deal with the headaches of the boat ramp and the pleasure yakkers if I didn’t catch fish.

I can only tell you about 5 pros names. Lol

Let’s sell my wife on this great advice lol. Seriously though, you are correct. Guides fish the fish not the pattern.

I do not have what it takes for first place but, I will laugh the whole way to last.

The only reason I run a braid to FC leader is because I rub against rocks and bottom a lot. I was fraying my braid and losing fish/jigs. I run 10lb 832.

I’m not a fishing expert. To me it just sounds like you caught the active bass on those given areas for that given day. Sounds like you’re looking for the answer that just wasn’t there. Some times the “pattern” really is just covering water.

I always wanted to do the superglue idea. I was just worried with the elaztech plastic it would ruin it.
