  1. I am hoping for some rain to get the river up. It’s scary low for this time of year.
  2. @ol'crickety I like that way of thinking. I also like that tournaments make it mandatory to wear life jackets while the combustion engine is running. I hate hearing this stuff. To many people think bad stuff can’t happen to them. I have also seen some down right ignorant stuff on the river. A lot of that comes from them not respecting or understanding the situation. We all take risks every day. Could be cutting corners at your job with safety. It could be missing that car in your blind spot and pulling out in front of them.
  3. I hate fishing in the rain. I usually won’t do it at all. I do love some high water river fishing though.
  4. I fish in PA and was out on the river yesterday. Water was in the mid 40s and we were catching decent bass shallow. Now, the lakes here seemed to be deeper.
  5. @Darth-Baiter yes sir. My 5th time out with it. Did the motor break in. Some prefishing for a tournament caught some small stuff. Caught a walleye in the tournament thag didn’t count because it wasn’t a bass. It was the first time I was happy to post what I caught lol
  6. Ohh nice. I fish dock street from to duncannon from time to time. I have the least experience on that stretch. I want to learn it better. I just have so much river around me it’s hard to try new areas. I won’t try new areas when it’s this low though.
  7. @flyfisheri am very lucky to have such a great smallmouth fishery 45 minutes from me. I’ve also learned through going out of state and fishing here some days will just be a struggle. Anyone who hasn’t experienced river smallie fishing is missing out. what area do you normally get to?
  8. @TnRiver46 thank you! It felt good to finally be “home”
  9. I was our yesterday in my river and they were nestled up in the rock ledges away from any current
  10. So today was a rare nice day this time of year. I didnt get to fish a lot this year because I did not have a boat. I bagged work early. My dad, dog and I headed to the river. The river is very low and clear water temp 45.5. We hit seams and slack pockets with no avail. We went up into the ledges and exposed rock. 1-6ft of water We each caught about 6 decent smallies in 3 ish hours of fishing. We primarily used ned rigs and under spins is a new technique for me I am learning. the new boat is great. I will make another post about that in the boat section at another time.
  11. I also don’t know if you guys have the issues of people just hanging out in parking lots. We do here. I’m sure some of it is illegal activities too. Well actually I know it is. I am some what thankful for the rails to trails they put in along the river. It cleaned up a lot of the riff raft.
  12. @TnRiver46 when the bass guys start rolling out the catfish guys/ bow fishing guys move in. Than in the morning it’s the opposite here.
  13. @TnRiver46 gotcha. Correct me if I am wrong. MLF selling point was “for the angler”. I think I remember Ike eluding to this. It turned out it couldn’t have been further from the truth. BASS was the gold standard. Nothing rivaled it. Anglers felt like they could stick it to the man and get what they feel they should have. It is a shame that as hard as this sport is the money a lot do the anglers are making is pretty much a “side hustle” in the means of social media. back to the topic. I agree there should be some sort of provisional for past winners like this. They earned it. Imagine if one has to take time off for family issues than had to start from the bottom up again. I know that was not the exact case here. I think this was more put in for something like that.
  14. So, slight off topic and I don’t want to hijacker’s this thread to much. You can DM me if it’s to much off topic.I was not into bass fishing at the time with all this split stuff. Why is there so much hate for the MLF? Why does everyone seem so loyal to the BASS?
  15. I would check with your dnr fish and boat commission or whatever would govern over this in your state. I know here it may say the area is closed but, in the fine print it excludes boating or fishing most of the time.
  16. I had a fishing buddy one time who I became friends with just because of fishing. Had a decent friendship would fish all the time together. He started to get jealous when I’d take my dad especially to new places. I said dude it’s my dad if you’re going to complain I just won’t take you period. I tell everyone my dad comes first in my boat. that smoothed over we were good. One day he asked me if I needed any jigs poured. I said sure pour me this and that. I never made him pay gas so I assumed this was payment for all the freebie trips he’s had. He has done that in the past just make me jigs for payment which I’m cool with. He goes $10 I said no way dude it cost me more than that every single time I take you. Gave me the jigs for free than. Then he started saying things like “we should take this person” “we should start guiding” “we should this or that” I looked at him and said what’s this “we” ****. I said it’s my boat my gas my time I don’t have to let anyone on this boat ever. We haven’t fished together since.
  17. everyone around here knows this place. It’s no secret.
  18. I carry pretty much everywhere but at work.
  19. With bait casters I use left hand retrieves and do not switch hands. I do this with everything other than with my tranx500 which was not offered in a left retrieve. For that I switch hands. I am right handed though. I like having my dominate hand on the rod.
  20. @Catt commercials/fads catch fishermen. Time on the water and skill catch fish.
  21. I have 7 rods rigged up. 4 of those 7 never change the technique that is on them. Really I’d like to add another rod and have 5 of 8 that never change. I know I will throw those 4 every single time I fish.
  22. @WVU-SCPA 13’ yikes! A guy made a joke out of that place with FFS a couple years ago for musky. i had my old boat around the 462 and 30 bridge before. Was pretty low. Seems like great wading area. I can be to that Columbia launch in about an hour. I have never fished the conwingo reservoir but I have gone below it at lapidum ramp.
  23. Sounds like a normal fishing trip for me
  24. The first week usually two my sleeping pattern is so messed up. I can’t stand it.
  25. @WVU-SCPA knowledge helps but, the gear is key. I don’t know what rig you have but, it can get super dicey even in a jet. Around 5’ you can slowly bop around with a prop with little to no issues. When I still had a prop on my old boat I fished Marburg a lot for musky. Once I got my jet I rarely ever visit an electric only lake. I am certainly not going to drive 1.5 hours anymore to use electric like I used to.
