  1. Ice and logs and all kinds of flooding.
  2. I also use the 1/0 to fish any of the small poopy baits. Like them a lot. I also remove the barbs on mine.
  3. We got about 15 inches over the last couple of weeks. Wind chill of -30. We live in a condo community where the homeowners association does all the snow clearing in the winter, and all the landscaping work in the summer.
  4. @Glenn .... this recently hit my YouTube feed. It's Fishing Fest 2024 in Yokohama. May give you a preview of the show you'll be attending.
  5. Have a wonderful and safe trip! If it was me ... being a UL bank and small stream fisherman ... I'd have to visit Anglo & Company and handle some examples of their custom rods. I'd also need to take something home that is unique to Japanese stream anglers but not used in the States. Probably a set of brass bear bells
  6. Maybe the fish in your area don’t chew bubblegum 😊
  7. If you want to see a real old school tournament, go out to YouTube and search "YPC UK Episode 1". Not bass, but pike and perch. No electronics. No boats. No prize money, just a trophy and bragging rights. All fishing from the bank. Admittedly, I'm a bit different (throwing a senko is as high tech as I get), but I really enjoyed watching it.
  8. Leland’s Trout SOS copolymer line.
  9. Go out to Etsy and do a search for “wall mount fishing rod” to see some pretty good options.
  10. I still use my dad's old metal tackle box from the 1950's. I saltwater fish with a Mitchell 409 reel. When I travel by plane, I bring a vintage Orvis Spin Fly rod.
  11. My license in Illinois will be $15, and due in March. A bargain IMO.
  12. I don't play guitar, but hopefully no one is offended by mandolin players. My 1921 Gibson.
  13. I primarily fish the Kishwaukee River. I’m a bank fisherman, and old, so I fish at the canoe landings. I’m lucky since the state maintains great access points, and there’s six different landings within 20 minutes of my condo.
  14. @redmeansdistortion my everyday rod is a Graywolf 544 UL (spinning ). I really enjoy fishing it.
  15. I’m afraid I’m a bit of an odd duck. I’m only fishing from the shore. Because of some back issues, weight is a big deal to me now, so I’ve become an ultralight minimalist. All my gear, including reels, fit in an old school metal tackle box (my dad’s from the 1950s). It goes in the car, along with 3 travel rods (spin for bass and panfish), fly for bluegill, and spin fly for carp). When I get to my location to fish, I choose what I’m fishing for, and move my tackle for the session into a small bait bag that I carry to the bank. I can only fish for about 40 minutes. So I start with a confidence bait, and set a 10 minute timer. If I catch anything or have bites, I stick with that bait for 30 minutes. If no fish or bites, I switch baits at each 10 minute mark. I use snaps to make it easy. I always fish something that is a learning bait for the last ten minutes.
  16. I only shore fish. Where there is brush, I wear high-top Columbia hiking boots that are water resistant, as well as REI gaters. Not a fan of ticks.
  17. I really enjoy using my Vanford. I purchased a used one from American Legacy during one of their sales for an extremely reasonable price. Looked brand new.
  18. Don’t feel bad. You’ve already paid them back by posting an example of superior customer service. People will buy product based on how they have treated you. Win-win for all involved.
  19. I’m a spin guy only: Rod weight: 80 grams Reel weight: 139 grams
  20. I only fish ultralight now due to some lower back issues. My everyday setup is a custom Graywolf 5'4" Uni E glass spinning rod and a Vanford 500 reel. 4 pound Leland SOS copolymer line. Most river bass I catch are about a pound, but are fun to catch on this setup. I figured if fly fisherman can get excited catching brook trout, I should get some satisfaction catching one pound bass. With the fall bite this week, I did catch a UL PB of a 3 pound bass. A lot of fun, but I honestly thought it was a catfish until it jumped.
  21. I always travel with my rods in tubes. All the rods are multi-piece. Each tube only contains one rod. The sections are first placed in a rod sock. Reels are transported in a separate box.
  22. I live such a non-complicated life. I fish from the bank, cast a senko from my spinning rod and hope for the best. 😊
  23. I plan to do some saltwater fishing, and wanted to know if it's safe to use one of my freshwater reels without destroying it? I will be fishing from a dock, so no sand, and no possibility to dropping the reel into saltwater. If it's safe to do, do I just rinse the reel off with water after fishing? Sorry in advance for the basic question ...
